Hi. My name is Doug. I was directed to this site from another forum because I was posting and looking for some older polk speakers to add to my set up. Particularly, rt55i and/or rt800i. I have registered and now see that a person can't use the classified section until they have a post count of 100. This is number 1 for me. I am on several other online forums on a various amount of topics that I am interested in. On many of these forums members can become paid subscribers and then have full use of the forum without having to complete an arbitrary amount of meaningless posts. Is there such an option of this forum?

This site is owned and administered by Polk Audio, and they have set the rules up so that someone must become a known and participating member of the community before they can take advantage of the flea market. That area is a privilege of becoming an active member and not a right given by simply signing up.

Hang out, contribute and take advantage of all that CP has to offer, and you will be to 100 soon enough.

    Welcome aboard!

Don't go that route... contribute your insight into the hobby, if you can help a guy out, do so. The first 100 is a way for you to get to know the forum ad how it woks and for us to get to know you as well.

So what you are basically saying is you do not plan on contributing just want to make a quick purchase and off you go. Maybe you don't realize is that when we did not have a post count for the fly by nighters that some of us would not sell to them anyway because of the few that came and made trouble with the sale

I just went past 1000, it didn't take as long as thought to get to 100. Hang out and contribute, lots of knowledge here especially if you are getting some vintage Polks and are looking to upgrade. Welcome to the Club.

Actually, I'd like to say a few words on the subject. When I joined the first week of July, I was frustrated by not being able to view what was for sale. I had no desire to sell anything, but I wanted to see what used equipment and cables went for. But more importantly, I wanted to familiarize myself with brand name for cables and accessories. Someone new to the hobby like me, has only heard of Monster Cable. So that's what I always purchased and thought I was doing the right thing. But when I came here, I saw the hatred for all things Monster. I had never heard of Douglas Cables, Audioquest, MIT Cables, Blue Jean Cables, Pangea, etc. Luckily shortly after I joined, someone started that infamous cable thread and I was able to pick up on a lot of manufacturers and started a browser folder with nothing but audiophile related sites. Now the need to view the "for sale" thread has weaned. After countless hours of reading here, I've picked up on a lot of recommended brands. But you have to realize the people new to this hobby are probably only familiar with Monster products.

Personally, I wish there was a way for newbies to view the flea market, but not be able to buy or sell. Make it where they can't reply to a thread in that section of this forum, and not be able to contact the seller. That's probably much harder than it sounds, and the programmers just cringed. Just my two cents.

I lurked this site for 6 months & joined. Just recently purchased. Poor CP has put up with me  learned alot by sticking around as we say. Would like to think we have more to offer than buying the gear we sell/discounted to members as a bonus..GREAT bunch here. Stick around & welcome......sorry to say but if i had it my way it would be way more post

Welcome to CP. To be totally honest here I joined just because of the discount I get on replacement parts for all my Polks. I now wish I had spent more time reading and learning all there is to offer here alot earlier. As F1 says the FM is earned. Get your read on and you will see that it's not just about the FM.

I am all for contributing and I am always willing to help out if I can...but to be honest...I'm still a newbie at this and the home theater set up I have now is the first I've ever had that wasn't one of the all in one box units. I don't think I'd have much to offer here as far as insight or knowledge. I am always trying to learn about things that interest me. And even if I could become a paid member like most forums I would still hang around. I am currently a paid member on over a dozen online forums now....several of which I have been on for a handful of years. I am a man with many interests that I'm passionate about. I am on several Jeep forums, Harley Davidson forums, gardening forums, several tattoo and body piercing forums. A few woodworking forums. A couple of airbrushing and automotive paint forums. All of which are with the same screen name I am using here. Home theater has just become my most recent obsession. lol

I am more than willing to contribute what little I have to offer. I have spent a little time here looking around today and I am pretty surprised by the wealth of info on this site. That seem to be the case with many online forums though. As for making trouble....see previous post about other online forums I am a member of. I have never been one to make trouble on an online forum. I have never been banned from any forum and I am a paid subscriber of many that I learn from and spend time on almost daily. Please don't make the post count any higher. I've been a member here for nearly six years, and as you can see my count still isn't there. I used to be able to see these forums before the went into effect and even purchased a couple of items. I miss not being to see whats out there, but I'm still here reading and learning. As for post count sooner of later I'll get there and others will too. Put your 2 cents in on what you know, read and learn.

If you feel that the 100 post limit is unfair, you're missing the point of a forum.

If you feel that you now have to post arbitrary stuff just to be able to take advantage (and I mean that in a negative way) of the community then you're missing the point of a community.

If you feel you have nothing to contribute then, why are you here?

We were all n00bs at one point or another. Some know lots of stuff about audio. Some think they know lots of stuff about audio. Some know nothing about audio but want to learn. Some know nothing about audio but lots of stuff about other stuff.

You don't have to be an audio expert to participate. You contribute in your own way. If your only way to contribute is to spew post and after post of BS then, seriously, move on. There's already more than our fair share of BS here. We're not in the market for more.

As Mr. Grand of the Jersey Grands has so eloquently put it previously, that's going to piss someone off and they need to know ahead of time that I don't care.
