Polk Let Me Down

My Polk PSW 505 subwoofer recently stopped working, so I sent the amplifier in to have it repaired under warranty. I bought the Sub in 2010 and I really enjoyed it up until it stopped working. I feel that a subwoofer should work longer than 3 years.

I could not find my receipt, I looked everywhere, but I wrote a detailed letter explaining my situation. I figured they
could just look at the serial number and see how old the speaker was, and probably more, like where it was purchased etc.

Anyway, I was really bummed when I was told that it needed a circuit board and was going to cost about $100 to fix
it and ship it back. That is half the price of what I can get a new one for. I might as well just buy the new one at
for the extra $100 where it is has been proven to me that I'm really going to need that 3 year warranty!

What really bummed me out the most is that the Tech guy (who was a really nice guy by the way) told me to
call customer service and they could probably help me. When I called, the guy really didn't even seem to care or
want to talk to me.

Now I just have a broken subwoofer, that is missing it's amplifier. Feeling pretty let down.

Thats too bad, I assume you paid online? If so look for an electronic receipt and your good to go ryan. Polk can only do so much and I'm sure spammers from the used market try to get a free repair

yeah man, I did pay online. I tried to hunt down where I got it and I just can't. I know what you're saying though. It's just frustrating that it's even broken in the first place.
I live my life very hosnestly and do right by everybody I meet, it's frustrating when it doesn't come back around.

It's not like it's this vintage polk speaker I want fixed. I bought it new, not long ago, which is evident by the part that I sent them. I even still have the box. Just bummed out that it's not old, not abused, and it stopped working. I try to do my research and spend a little more on quality products, so that I only have to buy once and not worry about these situations.

Yes, and contact the seller for another receipt. When I broke my Triton I asked The Cable Company for a copy of my receipt, and they sent it the same day. It turns out I didn't need it, but that's another story.

To allow Polk Audio to offer the best possible warranty service, please register your new product online at: http://dev.polkaudio.com/support/registration/ or call Polk customer service 800-377-7655 in the USA within ten (10) days of the date of original purchase. Be sure to keep your original purchase receipt.
3-Year Limited Warranty on Powered Speakers and Powered Subwoofers

Not to be a thorn in your side....welcome to the forum, BTW.....but if you did purchase this sub from an authorized dealer, then you had three chances to get warranty work done. Online registration, phone call registration and keeping a hold of the receipt. If you state that you have had the sub for three years, they have no idea whether or not the warranty is still in effect or not. You could be months beyond it or still within it. Without registration or a receipt, how are they to know? How are they to know that you purchased it from an authorized dealer? B]unauthorized dealers come with NO warranty[/B

While I feel for you being without a sub, it kinda drives me nuts that someone joins this board to complain about something that is ultimately their own responsibility. I can guarantee you that had you registered the product and/or kept the receipt, no post would have been made and you would be praising Polk instead of bashing them for something that *may* full well not have even included any warranty to begin with. Food for thought from the other side of the spectrum.

You are not a thorn in my side. I fully expected to see some responses like this.

You are completely correct, had I registered it and/or had my receipt, it may still well be months out of warranty or something not covered. Either way, I would still be disappointed that my sub stopped working after 3 years, and would hope for Polk to fix it.

I don't really feel as though I'm "bashing" Polk. I'm just sharing my experience. Thanks

The box should have the shipping label with the name of the business you bought it from.

I can't find anything. I had a big zip-lock style bag with all of my electronics manuals, receipts, and even a couple of remote controls in it. I can't find the whole bag. I thinking my wife must have thrown it out last year during our "un-cluttering" phase.

You had mentioned that you were looking for the box. That is your goal this weekend Ryan [I take it that's your name]. The box provides the path to the Yellow Brick Road.

Found the box, but nothing. I believe it was shipped as a box within a box.

I don't feel as though saying I was "let down" is bashing. I understand that I'm at fault by not keeping my receipt, registering, etc. I'm just sharing an experience.

So again, I'm not trying to 'bash', that is not really what I'm about. I'm just sharing my experience which is what I thought these forums are about. I'm not one to really join forums or leave reviews, but now and then I have felt compelled to write a review based on an experience, be it positive or negative.

Regardless of my oversights, I'm am "let down" that my subwoofer does not work.

Hey things die, and things have a set warranty period for a reason. If yours died there are many factors that could have caused it to do so. The burden of proof is yours - you have to qualify for the warranty. Simply purchasing it and having a roundabout time frame is not sufficient. If you had said paperwork and you fell within the guidelines they would be happy to help you out. While I know they bend over backwards many times - we cannot expect them to bend the rules for every situation. To do so would put them out of business.

J&R has a pretty BIG on line presence. They are alive and well! I bought an HK 3490 and a set of Rti-4s from them a while back as well as the HK HD 990 CDP. Good service, fast shipping.

And for our OP an uplifting song to commiserate with by LCD Soundsystem: New York I love you but you're Bringing me DOWN!
