A Porsche would be fun for sure. I've never driven one myself, but have ridden in that very model and seems like it would be challenging and fun to drive.

The next vehicle goes to my wife. She wants a small SUV and the Honda CRV tops her list, though she prefers the 2011 design to the current. But since she works from home and only puts on 5K miles a year on our 2000 Mitsubishi Galant (108K), it's going to be a long wait!

Needed a new family vehicle in December. Got this, hopefully won't need a new one for another 10 years (bike is my toy anyway).

New cars are just too much. My current 2002 Chrysler 300M Special was about $32K new. I test drove the car back then but the price was out of my range. Four years later I bought the car for $13,900 with 49,000 miles. Put a new engine in at 105,000 miles. The engine was pulled out of a 2004 and had 37K miles on it.

Today, I would love to buy a new car but again the prices are too much. These are the cars I'm looking at:

    2014 Chevy Impala
    2013 Dodge Charger 6 cyl
    2013 Kia Optima
    2014 Kia Cadenza
    2014 Mazda6
    2013 Lexus ES

Maybe in 2-4 years I can find one of these with low miles and at a nice price.

    Smart car with a 455 V-8.

But, seriously. I've owned 2 Dodge Chargers in the past (when they were cool) and as soon as Dodge does the new ones justice, I'd like to own a Charger again, just for old times sake.

I'm a strong believer in buying cars that are already depreciated by at least half, but still have lots of life in them. For many cars, that occurs at about 4-5 years old. Some cars that have a bulletproof reliability, can be bought at less than 25% of the original price and still have plenty of life in them. My current Mercedes is a 2001 E55, just over 112k miles, runs great, no issues, and has the reputation to make 250k miles without major headaches. I bought that car for about 18% of its original price, and it had under 80k miles at the time. It will be a few years before I dump the AMG, but when I do, I think I will try a 5 series BMW, or a Lexus GS, that is, unless Ford or GM build a reasonably priced rear drive sedan.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

I got one of these abt a year ago.. it's faster than most of the traffic on the road..or maybe I just drive that way;) it gets great mileage for the fun factor..it has a limited slip diff, so it handles surprisingly well for fwd..it's not as fast as my old hot rod modded 98 z28...but its a great everyday car..with 4 doors, I can throw the grandkid in the back, too..when I get outta work, ripping the six speed to 7300 is good fun;)

My previous car was a 2008 Mazda 3 5MT, which was reliable and a fun car to drive. Last year I splurged a bit and bought what I've been wanting for a while; '12 328i Sport 6mt. It's a hoot to drive and I get 27mpg in Sport+ mode. BMW nickels and dimes you on options though. I did Euro delivery, which saves you $3-4k, but obviously the cost of the trip makes it a wash.

Had I not gone all out, I'd probably be looking at the next Mazda3, Mazda6, X1, Accord V6 coupe 6MT, or maybe a BRZ.

Funny! I bought a 4-yr-old 300m Special with about 50K miles on it in 2006, didn't pay much for it too. Just sold it for 3K with 200K km on it (130K miles), still running strong, but... my dad's Intrepid R/T, which is a very similar car has 230K km on it, and I knew exactly the problems that I should expect. That 3.5 engine is good (well slightly leaking head gasket for now), but front suspension is falling apart, and transmission on those cars is not the best, plus rust...

Btw, from your list I'd pick a Mazda6 with a V6. Charger - you can't see anything out of that car with tiny windows and tall hood, Lexus ES is just a glorified Camry. Add Legacy and Accord to that list.

I live in NW Indiana and there is a dealer not far away in Chicago. I swear I've seen about five Tesla Model S on the road and they are absolute jaw droppers! I've seen red, silver, blue, white , and black. I did not think I'd see one around these parts.

Here are two pics I was able to snap...almost broke my neck checking out the white one....that was the 1st I've seen on the road. I did see a silver one at the Detroit Auto show.

The Mazda6 made my jaw drop when I saw it on the road. The car look much larger than the last gen. I love large sedans but am considering a medium size car with good gas mileage. No doubt I will test drive it at some point. Yeah, the Lex and Camry are the same...but damn do I like the looks of the Lex better. The car is just so damn solid....you just can't close the door once...you have to do it a few times...it just sounds SO GOOD! Was at the dealer last week kicking tires with empty pockets. LOL!

The Charger is one that I love to drive...at least the last gen... and want to own one.

Its good that I can't do anything now because my thoughts seem to change daily as to which I would go for.

There's a reason these cars demand more coin from their lesser lines and if you've ever owned one it's readily apparent.

I'll never buy another new car from a dealer again. The amount of depreciation in the first 4-5 years coupled with the juice on the loans is a lot of coin thrown out the window. Not to mention the taxes and fee's too you pay at a dealer.

The Camry is so refined these days that the lineage is obvious. However, No doubt, the Lex and Audi are just amazing IMO. The lines of the A7 are awesome to me...I would buy this car over the A8 if I was in the position. But, I'm not even close! Never owned either but someday maybe a used one.

I agree. I bought my used 300M from a dealer and the Sales manager was PISSED that I did not go for his sales pitch for the $4000 extended warranty. I had to tell the guy that I am the son of an engine repairman for Chysler, My Grandad was a jack-of-all trades and my Uncle was an Electrian...I know how to fix stuff...Since I was a kid! Then took my keys and drove off...LOL!

Completely agreed. Seems like the most sports car I'd ever be able to afford, and it'd have to be several years old to even squeeze in at the top of my affordability scale.

And ZLTFUL, you can only hope she doesn't make a move. That RS5 is one bad mother. I loved my S4, but it wouldn't hold a candle to that beast.

Yes Sir! We can all dream a little.

I actually met the current front man behind the Viper Ralph Gilles ages ago (mid-late 90's) back when we were both into the VW Corrados. I had a slightly modded G60 and he had an SLC VR6 that he raced and was doing crazy performance mods. Being in the Metro-Detroit area the VW cult/circles was small. The guy was into it back then and is the man at Dodge today. He is a true car guy...they got the right guy for the job! The current Viber is just sick!

Just bought my wife a brand spankin new 13 GMC Terrain to replace the pile of scat Scion tC that she cherished. JuNk!
The Terrain drives awesome and is decked to the 9's.

My Nissan Frontier just hit 120K and will hopefully make it to the ripe age of 180K. I do roughly 38K a year in mileage so something a little better on the gas would be nice. I really like the new BMW X3. If i can score one on the cheap with VERY low miles, i'd grab that as my next vehicle.

If i didn't do a butt load of miles, a new 1500 would be it. To bad, so sad...

This is a picture of a 2014 Porsche 918 Spyder that I took last month when I was at 14,200+ft in elevation in Colorado. There were three of them up at the summit of Mount Evans undergoing high altitude testing. The sticker, fully loaded, was just over $975,000. I wouldn't mind having one of these, but I'm going to have to win both the Powerball and the MegaMillions lotteries first!

If I could just go out and buy a car that I have coveted for years, it would be a mid-1990s Bentley Turbo-RT, but that just ain't gonna happen.

    images.jpeg

IMHO the best deals in autos these days can be had by finding a low-mileage, certified pre-owned Lexus in whatever model you prefer. A lot of the depreciation has been taken by the original owner, the dealer prep and inspection for the CPO program are excellent, and the warranty is unsurpassed. You can, if you're not as handy as one of our friends on the Forum, purchase an extended warranty that covers the car, bumper to bumper, for up to 120,000 miles.

Over the last two decades I have purchased three new Lexus cars (LS 400, LS 430, LX 460) and four CPO vehicles (three GS 300s and one LX 470). I've never been disappointed with a Lexus vehicle -- new or CPO -- or the after-sales service at the Lexus dealerships I have used.

Are they gussied up Toyotas? Yes, but some of the features and upgrades justify the added cost to me, but value is in the eye of the beholder, so to speak.

Power source for all components: Silver Circle Audio Pure Power One with dedicated 20 amp circuit to main panel.

Exercise Room, Innuos Streamer via Cat 6 cable connection to PS Audio PerfectWave MkII DAC w/Bridge II, AQ King Cobra RCAs to Perreaux PMF3150 amp (fully restored and upgraded by Jeffrey Jackson, Precision Audio Labs), Supra Rondo 4x2.5 Speaker Cables to SDA 1Cs (Vr3 Mods Xovers and other mods.), Dreadnaught with Supra Rondo 4x2.5 interconnect cables by Vr3 Mods. Same base, same powertrain.

Yes but there's a ton of other goodies that separate them. Better fit and finish, better dampening for a quieter cabin, better paint, better amenities, stereo, and other mechanical parts that makes these upscaled models well worth it. My Lexus is 17, almost 18 years old and no rust, 206,000 on the clock and still runs like a champ.

BTW- Lambo and Bentley are acquired companies, not the same thing. Kinda like calling Mercedes a Chrysler.

3 weeks after I originally got that car, some kid decided it would be fun to key it. Started from the back on one side, all along the side over the hood and down the other side. Took it in to get re-painted and the estimate was....a lot lets say. I asked why so much. They told me Lexus puts 11 coats of paint on their cars and if I wanted it to factory spec, which I said I did, that's what it costs. Do they still do that ? I dunno man, but I guarantee you, you won't find 11 coats of paint on a Toyota corolla....or Camry for that matter.

I guess it comes down to that old adage, you get what you pay for.

Ugh, and Lambo and Bentley are glorified VW too?

You are either kidding or don't have a clue.

I think we were just misunderstanding each other Brock after re-reading some posts. I basically took issue with the "glorified Camry" assessment. I don't think he ment it as I took it. Either way, no harm , no foul.

Point being, regardless of the make or model, upscale cars are well worth the coin imho, just like solid well built audio gear. You hold on to both for decades, not a couple years.
