reciever not powerful enough for Lsi25's

I recently bought a pair of Lsi25's along with a Harmon Kardon AVR330 reciever. It sounds awesome, but the problem I have is that at high volume levels, the reciever goes into "protect mode" and shuts off. I was told by the store that sold me the equipment that this was because the reciever cannot supply the "juice" needed by the speakers. Is my only option to go out and spend big bucks on another reciever that can handle the load? I would really like to get the "full effect" out of my speakers, even though I'm very pleased with the way things are now for the most part. Any suggestions??

Assuming your HK has pre-outs for the front channels I would get a new or used 2 channel amp.
    Dodd - Battery Preamp
Monarchy Audio SE100 Delux - mono power amps
    Sony DVP-NS999ES - SACD player
    ADS 1230 - Polk SDA 2B
DIY Stereo Subwoofer towers w/(4) 12 drivers each
    Crown K1 - Subwoofer amp
    Outlaw ICBM - crossover
    Beringher BFD - sub eq

Where is the remote? Where is the $%#$% remote!

Definitely sounds like the power-hungry LSi25's in your room with your listening habits are demanding more power. Got to step up the receiver a few notches or add a powerful amp as hoosier said.

I'd take a look at some of NAD's products, too, namely the NAD T773.

Also, make sure you have an excellent connection to/from speakers. Banana plugs work very well. I have a friend with a Sony receiver and Mirage speakers and his receiver kept doing the same thing yours is doing. I suggested improving all the connections before he bought another receiver, and he hasn't experienced any problems yet (about 6 months). Are you using banana plugs currently? My friend was using the old "twist and screw" in method. Crazy.

Thanks for all the help regarding my receiver problem. I should make clear what I'm really looking for, now that I'm better informed than when I purchased my current equipment.

I am NOT interested in home theater....All I want is a receiver for music only. I think I also should stick with a 4ohm rated receiver and am willing to spend up to $1500. Does anyone have any suggestions??

Oh, ok. Well, then I'd probably avoid a receiver altogether. I'd look for a preamp and a couple power amps to bridge. Again, NAD comes to mind: a couple C270's and C160 could be had at well under your price. I'm sure you'll get other good suggestions. Good luck.

My very 1st receiver was an NAD. Pretty sweet. Had the "power envelope." They make good stuff.

Here are a couple of great integrated amps (used) in your price range if you don't need a tuner.

My 2 cents. Look into the Rotel 1065 or the Rotel 1055. I have a 1065 & was guided by great forum members on my Rotel purchase. My Onkyo couldnt drive the LSi15's correctly. Im very happy with the 1065. Other members in this forum use the 1055 or 1065 w/ LSi speakers with great scucess. The RSX 1055 retails for $1299.

It certainly is a shame that the HK is not quite strong enough to pull it off, but that is one hungry speaker. I agree with the sentiments towards simple, powerful, amp/pre-amp combo....there are some outstanding choices available.

I personally like NAD and Parasound, there are others, but I know those two manufacturers well. The previous recommendations are also solid performers.

I see an Adcom in the Flea Market....that is a great start and a great buy.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Here is another one, a little more than $1500, but it'll really make those LSi's sing.

Your problem is not the fact that u have a harman kardon. the problem is its not the top of the line harman kardon. The Rotel Amp hes talking about is 2000 and its the best one Rotel Offers. if you want a really cheap deal on reciever and its service is excellent. Ive ordered from here before. Then go to www.jr.com.
here is the exact link at the harman kardon i want you to look at

Check that out. Its 100 watts * 7. I have the 225 last years model and its the same wattage as yours just less speaker hookups. Mine is only 55 wats a channel. With this reciever your getting double the power for only a grand. Return your old one and Get this ONE!!!>

    hope this helps

    pmckeealaska,

If as you say you are not interested in HT, first step is to return the Yammie AVR. If you add the return amount to the $1500, you've got quite a bit of cash for great 2 ch electronics.
    More later,
