Take it slow buddy, otherwise you'll frustrate yourself and quit. Ease into it.
Yup, goal is only 1.5 lbs per week, but I know I will plateau eventually. I've been going strong since November but I dont expect numbers like that every 2 weeks.
My app is setup for 1.5 lbs of loss per week so thats the calorie intake I am shooting for. That said I dont cry if I am a little over it some days either. I just account for my calories better.
Big lunch = smaller dinner and no late evening snack
Light lunch = regular dinner and a snack
etc.
Once I get down to ~175 then I will just try to eat enough to maintain. I have admitted I wont ever get back down to 140 and I'm ok with how 175 looks.
I also am focusing on my measurements in the waist, etc so its not JUST a number thing. I know lean muscle is dense so as I eventually put on some more muscle mass I will weigh more, but still keep looking leaner.
Its how the weight sits more than the number. That said at this juncture weight loss is a fair indication of measurement loss as well."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Bingo...it's important keep your lean muscle, the more muscle you have the more calories you burn. Problem is you can't build muscle and burn fat at the same time...and it is very difficult to lose weight without losing a lot of muscle mass. This is why it is very important to keep your protein levels really high when cutting calories. It will help you maintain your bodies fat burning furnace, muscle. In addition, fat is bioactive meaning it doesn't just sit there it affects the level of testosterone and estrogen in your body. The more fat you have the more estrogen you will make, which also leads to more fat storage and less muscle mass. When people plateau it is because they have then reached the point where their muscle mass has decreased enough to compensate for the reduction in calories. So what do people do they eat less, lose more fat and muscle until they plateau again. Finally people become "skinny fat" at which point they want to bulk up and they will gain some muscle with some fat. I know it is all in what your goals are, but this is why a proper diet is so important. Minimizing the muscle loss so you can maximize the fat loss, and when bulking maximizing muscle gains, without adding a lot of fat. When cutting I personally try to eat around 200-300 grams of protein a day from various sources while only allowing 50-60 grams of fat and around 200-300 carbs. Look to get around 10-15 calories per pound of your goal body weight per day, which will include appox. 1.5 grams of protein per pound of goal body weight, 1gram of carbs per pound and about a half gram of fat per pound to help keep testosterone from falling as well. Or don't...just my advice.Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. Thanks, thats helpful info. The app I'm using calculates my protein intake as a percentage, but in looking at hard numbers it wants me to have 91 grams of protein a day, 230 grams of carbs and 62 grams of fat.
For breakfast I eat a protein bar thats got 20 grams of protein. For lunch I have a turkey sandwich on bread. Then for dinner I try to do something with lots of meat and I focus on trying to eat something which chicken or fish in it.
So I'm along the same lines of trying to hit my protein. If I am constantly not hitting it, I will buy some whey protein mix and use my former breakfast of glass skim milk + carnation instant breakfast + scoop of protein mix. Not tons of calories but very high in protein.
I try to always have lots of protein to start my morning, hence the protein bar."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
Just be careful Dan of those protein bars and powder. Many are loaded with sugar that defeats any gains.

Clif bars are an okay choice they are delicious and organic, however, they are not cheap enough or have a low enough carb/protein ratio to be a really good source of protein. For supplementing I would stick with a 100% pure unflavored filtered whey powder, it is as cheap as it gets and you can flavor it any way you want. I like to blend mine with unsweetened vanilla almond milk and a tablespoon of peanut butter. Add some truvia if you want it a little sweeter. Unsweetened Cocoa powder works too, with a little truvia. You can also blend it with some fresh fruit like bananas, kiwi, or whatever, but you have to be somewhat careful with the carb content in fruit. I also just mix it with water, it doesn't taste good that way, but that isn't really the point anyways.Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. Thanks. For supplementing I'm there with you, focus on the protein aspect. For a breakfast item I will stick with the clif bar.

I think the rate at which you're taking off the extra pounds is very good for long term success. Keep up the good work !
I would have to assume that with your Chrons your doctor has you supplement with probiotics. If not, AND WITH YOUR DOCTOR'S APPROVAL, it would be something that you might seriously consider.
Most of us have guts loaded with bacteria that just love the bad stuff: sugars, carbs, fats, etc. The bad thing is that these bad guys breed like rabbits in heat and they demand to be fed and what do they want to be fed ? Bad stuff.
The good guys, who don't breed as effectively, soon get overwhelmed and you wind up sitting in front of the cupboard spooning sugar out of the sugar bag to "shut 'em up".
OK, that's a little over exaggerated, but not much.
Get the good bacteria levels up, and a lot of the cravings you experience will, IMO, go way down.
I used to have a drinking problem. No, not liquor, but milk. Gawd, could I drink milk. I mean a LOT of milk. But, due to diabetes, I had to cut that way down (along with carbs). What helped me completely get rid of those cravings (completely) was through the use of probiotics.
Another benefit is that probiotics helps the efficiency of the machine.
Just something for you to consider. But with you experiencing Chrons, it DEFINITELY is something to speak with your doctor about before trying.
Diabetics might find them useful in helping regulate blood sugar, too. In my experience, they have. (A1C down, LDL down, triglycerides down)
Custopper might have some input on this. I think Jeremy may too.
Just food for thought.
(if this proves to be useful, there will be a slight consultation fee)

Very good post ^^^.
We men with guts as we age don't realize it's the central reason why you feel tired and old. Your gut is like the Death star or base camp for disease or other medical conditions.
If you've neglected your gut so far, your colon is probably also jam packed with nasties. Clean that badboy out....just don't do it on the front lawn, neighbors may complain.HT SYSTEM-

Got my first education on Led Zepplin from the manager
Did the Rossville Blvd. store and up on Signal Mtn. through out high school.
Spent a many evenings "cruising" Brainard Rd. back in the day.
Probably should not admit this but back in the late 80's "wow I'm old" was a bar called PJ's play late club, had 3 bars in it, country, disco and rock.
Every Mon-Thurs was beer bash night, "they actually" had bouncers outside the doors in tuxes. Was $4.00 bucks to get in and all the draft beer you could drink until midnight. Lots of 80's hair band rock for sure and probably some bad choices mixed in. -
