So I'm gonna bump this thread again. I honestly stopped doing anything for quite some time, though I was biking with Skye a fair amount. I picked things back up diet wise in November of last year.

At this point I'm down 11lbs and feeling much better. I've got more to do so this is but the first stop of a longer journey. I've added basketball to my list of things I'm doing (since its winter and I cant bike) on a weekly basis

I'd love to get more friends on myfitnesspal to help keep me honest about what I'm eating and whatnot...

If your interested PM me for my contact info on MyFitnessPal, or if your a FitBit user, I'm on there too.

For me I am 5'10 and 145 lbs, my skinny jeans and dress pants are all 28 in the waste. If I was to stop drinking hot cups of tea my jeans would stop fitting I and I have invested heavily in fashion.

Its a business deal for me to keep the weight down or all my Armani,Prada, Gucci and lacoste clothing wont fit and thats thousands of dollars down the drain. This is what ultimately keeps me from gaining weight. I know this sounds really superficial and makes me look like a dooosh but its the truth. Before audio clothing was my thing but now I really dont spend much and shop smart waiting for seasonal sales.

Here is my weight busting tips, drink tea after every meal. Stay away from pop and cut out the crap your body does not need. I have this little bean bag hanging from a string and for 15 minutes every hour or two I lightly punch it and kick it. That little kinda exercise keeps the calorie burning fire smoldering better than intense bursts of 45 minutes at planet dooshbag.
  • Seriously Man, you can do so much better than 11 pounds a year. I can build you a diet plan in which I guarantee at least a loss of 10lbs a month. I typically maintain between 185 and 200lbs at 5'11" and never have to wear larger than a 30-31inch waist. I am not really trying to harp on you, but you were fed up and wasn't going to take it anymore...remember. Exercise can help you lose weight, but your diet is what is keeping the weight on. Apparently you didn't want to lose it bad enough. I will be honest with you, when you said you said something like, taking it slow, once step at a time, mountain dew was your one vice, or whatever and that this was the best way for you to lose weight, you had already given up. I am here to tell you that taking it slow, is a waste of time, if you are going change your life you effing change it, no bs, no excuses. You think that you will get sick of dieting and go back to your old ways if you give up too much too soon, that's crap. Food is an addiction as strong as heroin and nicotine, eating crap will keep you wanting more crap. You can't get off heroin by cutting back on it, because it will only leave you wanting more and more. Food addiction is exactly the same. Cut out the crap and the weight loss and increased energy you will experience will be the only motivation you will need to stay on track. I know how hard it can be, food is usually embedded in ones lifestyle and social life. All you really need to know are these two simple rules from the late fitness guru Jake LaLanne "if man made it, don't eat it", and "if it tastes good, spit it out." If you want to get serious about losing weight, your health and well being I can help. Pm me if you want the help, otherwise, good luck.

Good points ^^^. Yeah, your mental commitment has to be there or your doomed from the gitgo. Start with taking soda out of the equation, any kind, including diet soda. Worst crap ever invented, though I do enjoy a Mexican coke from time to time.lol

Eat more wholesome foods and watch the portion control. Don't eat until your stuffed to the gills like on Thanksgiving....learn to put the fork down. Stay away from processed foods, high fructose corn syrup, which is in everything these days.

Take the dog for a walk around the block every day, good for both of you. Don't have a dog ?.....get one. Believe it or not, dogs are good motivators to get your butt off the couch.

I drink a variety of green and white tea's with a spoonful of honey as opposed to soda. Even a glass of wine is better for you. Beer will just add inches to your waist if your not super active. I'm not saying completely cut out every food you enjoy, just cut the portions way down and not as often. Get some exercise by any means you can....on a regular basis.

As we men age, it takes drastic measures if your previous habits haven't been all that good. That's the hard part for most because we are used to eating everything and anything like it was our last supper. If you don't change now, your life will be consumed with doctor visits and prescription medications.

Its not been 11lbs in a year, I'm saying its been 11 lbs from November of last year (2014) to current date (so 3 months).

I.E. November is when I "really" started getting serious about it.

I've been tracking my foot intake daily good or bad since November and keeping it to what its supposed to be per the apps I've got. I'm doing fairly well at keeping my protein intake to about 20 percent, my fat to around 30 and carbs to 50 of my diet.

I plan my meals out during the week in advance and eat the same stuff for breakfast & lunch and leave myself some room for dinner to have more calories. If I know we are going out to eat I look at the nutrition information of what they have and see whats in the range of what I can eat. I let myself slide one day a week on total calories just so I dont start to hate myself and give up entirely.

The other thing which makes things VERY difficult is that I am on a permanent low residue diet. That causes lots of problems in following any regiment for the most part as I cant do nuts, salad, etc (ie most of the filling low calorie stuff). I also go on spurts of Prednisone due to my medical condition, as well as other steroids which cause massive water gains and increase appetite at the least.

It may seem like I've "given" up, but far from it, I have made massive adjustments to my eating habits, what I eat, when I eat it, etc. I'm slowly working my way down. I am not a contestant on the biggest loser who can go workout 24/7 and diet and have a nutritionist feed him food.

Im a normal IT worker who has a very sedentary job, who doesn't have the flexibility in his schedule to do tons, and despite that I've been doing quite well with what I've been doing. I plan to continue doing that but I'm not going to just start drinking juice, eating meat only if I physically killed the cow and am eating it raw etc.

I can appreciate your passion, but I'm going to do this for me, my way because I'm not your normal 30 year old guy medically so I've got other crap to deal with that makes it harder.

Also thanks for the offer to help make a diet plan, but my brother is in the industry as he just got his Masters from Ball State Indiana in fitness, has a bunch of personal training certs and works for a small company out in Conn doing just that, creating personalized workout routines. I dont have a gym membership currently, dont have time to go to one, so basketball is going to be the one physical activity I can do for right now.

Once I'm in the habit of going weekly and feeling good, I may try to add more.

@tonyb I dont drink anymore so no need to worry about those calories being in my system. I also agree as we get older we need less but tend to not curb our intake. I've cut my intake by almost 1/2 and am still full with what I eat. I have dogs, but my wife works quite late and I have to be in early. As such given its cold here like there, I cant take my dogs on a walk since I'd have Skye with me and last thing I want is a kid with hypothermia because Daddy took her on a walk in the freezing cold.

We are eating in a lot more to save on cost as well, so most of our meals are being prepared by us. Lots of chicken, steak, fish, etc. Saves us money, we can control the portions (and have leftovers).

And I am doing more of what your talking about Tony. I still eat some unhealthy stuff, but in moderation for special times. So far since November I've had maybe 4-5 servings of Candy total.

Basketball is fine Dan, as long as your not just standing there taking free throws. What medical condition do you have, exactly ? If it's not hereditary, it's probably from diet over a course of time. I've seen people reverse diabetes with simple change of diets.

IT jobs and being seditary, well that's a lot of jobs these days as everything becomes digital. Thing is, you have to make the time for some form of exercise. Take up a hobby that includes it, doesn't have to be a grunt session at the local gym....you just need to move or that food you eat sits in your gut and ferments.

Just keep plugging away. My wife and I are on a weight kick and have done very well by using portion control and reduced "snacking" efforts.
We both have sit down jobs which doesn't help a whole lot.
We recently joined an exercise program "its free through" her employer which works great with her schedule.

I told her to take it easy at the start and don't try to do too much. Fact is we both have lost some weight, we are sleeping much better and we both have more energy again.

I guess whats working for us is we made a simple as "consistent" as it can be effort to just get healthier.
Fact is, mens health magazine won't be calling me anytime soon but that's ok with me. Keep Digging :)

Now if you want a good workout head up north a little bit, I have a few downed trees that need cut, split and stacked PHEW, that gets the ole ticker pumping.... :o

Cool, good workout there on the court then. Crohns disease, as you are well aware of, is an intestinal track disease. All the more reason diet comes into play, and exercise. Depending on where in your intestinal tract it is may dictate the course of action. My nephew has it too, had to have some of his small intestines removed.

Given your medical condition, and since diet and exercise are going to be part of your life forever now, and the fact that winter months up here create a hardship for you to keep up, maybe a move to a sunny state would also benefit your health. Get you out and about more, something to think about my friend.

Me too, that's why I threw out the offer.
I got an idea, that new pretty house you have has a set of stairs in it right?
Every evening make 10-20 trips up and down them 2-3 times per hour or whatever is comfortable. I'll bet in a month you will feel better.
Fact is, my sister did this "and still" does, has made a huge difference in her life. But if that's not doable, the wood chopping is always open.. :D

Yeah, diet comes into play. For me carbs and meat tend to do fine which also happens to be things your supposed to limit on a diet and eat more ruffage (which I cant). Hence the issue I run into with trying to "diet". Instead I'm working on limiting as best I can.

I've already had a foot of intestine removed Tony and trying to avoid the stat that within 5 years most people with a resection have to have another.

I'd love to move somewhere warm, specifically Chattanooga or Gatlinburg TN, but doubt that will happen for other reasons (not going to get into).

As long as you don't have any current health issues. One meal a day worked for me. I lost 40 pounds and lost what I needed to lose. I am now maintaining my current weight and I have never felt better or had more energy. This is not for everybody, but it worked for me. I have been doing this for 6 months.

Dude what I'm saying is your suggestions read more as a if your not doing it biggest loser style your doing it wrong. Any attempt to eat normal good tasting food is bad, go kill the food yourself, pull the carrots direct out the ground, etc... It reads like a knock on my accomplishment which I'm sure ain't your intent. Also your method works for you, may not work for me. That's why there are 50 million weight loss books.

That's what I take offense to.

Hell I'm LOSING weight. And at a fair pace. Imma do me, you do you.

If you RELIGIOUSLY lose one pound per week, you are on a great trend. But it isn't easy to maintain that discipline.

Sounds like you're off to a good start under some challenging conditions.

LOL, sorry to disappoint Tony..... I weigh in every 2 weeks on Friday so any loss is more realistic as your body can fluctuate its weight by a few pounds daily due to hydration level, food you ate, etc.

    Besides I am STILL full of c r a p just 4 lbs less now

198.2 was my official weigh in this morning.

Anyway, anyone wants to, I'm on myfitnesspal.

@hochpt21 where you been, havent seen you log in recently

    Well done!

    Keep it up.
