12v Trigger

I am trying to hook up a 12 v trigger from my avr to my amp. I used bare wire phone cable from my pre to my amp and it worked great. The avr has a 3.5 mm plug in so i took a 3.5 mm to rca cord and cut off the rca ends, stripped the wires and hooked it up. Getting a 12v trigger error message on the avr. Any suggestions?

You need to use a mono wire not stereo. I had to order one as they aren't easy to find in stores. Buy on that has 3.5 mm connectors on each end and cut one off. There is a wire within the wire and that one is the positive. The wire outside of that is the negative. That will make more sense when you cut the wire and see what I'm talking about.
