I"m sure you could run small satellites for surrounds.. but i'm not sure Polk sells them seperately or not.. worth checking into.

You may want to hold off getting the surrounds.. till things cool down in your home... it's not worth getting your wife that upset at you. Maybe get what she is comfortable with letting you get right now.. then make a compromise say in 3 to 6 months, you can get the surrounds you like.. within reason of course.. I find that there is always room for compromise if you sit down and talk things out.

Yeah, but you didn't answer my initial question............You wanna buy a wife?? lol

Seriously though, this is frustrating. The Peerless tweeter everyone recommends is no longer in stock anywhere. Polk is closed till Monday so I can't find out what they still carry.

I WANT the 300's but at a 9 inch depth, I would have to put them on the wall near the ceiling to avoid walking into them, Not sure that would work well.
Otherwise, one of them would be ear level on the wall at an outside corner you walk around moving through the house.

I may surrender to the Monitors, a front center and a sub and forget about surrounds all together. Not sure if that would work.

    I don't know............I'm a little fed up.

Ixnay on the wife.. she's yours to keep. ;)

Well how about this idea.. Polk makes in wall speakers.. maybe a pair of those would work for surrounds.? no speakers hanging on the walls for you to bump your head on.. it's just a thought.

Polk closed till Monday? those ****.. taking time off instead of designing some new SDA's :D it's ok. this time.. i'm sure they deserve the time off. sheesh!

So I take Madisound *is* out of stock also?

That sucks, it's a great tweeter - in a Polk or not.

If you want surround sound, just build on your front stage as you mentioned, get a couple small(er) rears and run 5.1 and call it day.

All this 6.1 7.1 etc etc isn't all it's cracked up to be (imo). Bag a pair of Atrium 45's, mount em on the wall, done. The in-wall suggestion is a stellar idea also.

If you want to go smaller - you can get the RM sats direct from Polk here:

    Thanks Russ

yes, NOBODY has the peerless. I'll try to get the 1000's or 2000's from Polk.

Thanks for the atrium advice. I was just looking at them. I'll look harder now. I am looking at e-by right now for the atrium and RM's.

I have a feeling tht once the Monitors get fixed, the new receiver shows up and I throw a sub on with a couple sats, tht the improvement will be so big that I will never notice what I might be missing from lack of 300i's

    Thanks

Which Receiver did you decide to go with?

I bought the Pioneer VSX-D912k. Shows up next week. I am teaching myself to be practical. I no longer buy the best of the best. I end up not using 90% of the functions and can't discern the minor performance superiority that doubles the cost. That would have been the issue if I bought the Denon.

I am watching an auction right now on a PSW 350 that ends in an hour. If I can get it cheap, I'm grabbing it. I am also trying to negotiate for a pair of RT28i's to use as the surrounds (RT25i's are another alternative).

If I can get these two items along with tweeter replacements on the Monitors, I will see if I can live without the center channel. If I decide I need one, I'll try to grab a cs400i for $150-$175.

Sad fact is no matter what I end up with, 75% of the time Elmo and Sesame Street will be on the screen.

CNET.com has a nice review on that receiver. Nice choice and I'm sure it will drive the M10's nicely.

Good luck on the auction and remember, put a top all bid in with about 15-20 seconds left in the auction. You might get it ;)

Actually I my pass on the PSW350 auction.

I noticed that the dimensions do not match a 350. In fact, they don't match any subwoofer from Polk. If you add a digit to the length dimension (he shows L 8.5 W 9.5 H 13) you would have 18.5x9.5x13 which are the dimensions for a PSW 120

Yet he lists the serial number as PSW350 33967

    seller is rick2559

He has not responded to 2 e-mails and I smell something funny.

    Too bad.

Good choice. If you're not sure, back off. I've done that before.

Agreed. He finally responded to one of two e-mails, but never answered the question. Simply replied system works fine. I'm confident he knew it was not a 350 but wanted people to think it was. Been on e-bay since early 99. Seen every variety of scam alive. Caveat emptor

I wish someone here had some stuff for sale. Seems a tad bit safer, depending on the seller.
