Boston, Sorry you missed out on them. Monitor 10s are wonderful speakers. I love mine. However, that was a very high price for those, even with original boxes, etc. Be patient and you will find a nice set for a lot less. I spent months about 2 years ago searching the web for a nice pair and found a great pair of Monitor 10s with the peerless tweeter in great shape for only $150. Seller was about 1 1/2 hours from where my brother lives in NJ so I combined it with a visit to my brother and picked them up and brought them back to Albany. They are great speakers, especially the Monitor 10As or early Monitor 10s which have the Peerless tweeter. But, as good as they are, $300 or $400 is just way too much for those. I would think you could find a nice pair for around $200 or less if you are patient. Good luck in your search!

WOW. I should have sold my monitor 10Bs on eBay. They were in excellent condition and I finally sold them for $180 locally on CL after dropping the price a couple of times from $225. They even had nice stands with them. I thought $225 was a good deal but the local buyers didn't. I was thinking of trying to sell my pair of CRS+ on CL but I will be looking at eBay instead.

    Exactly!
    I got 3.1TL's for a lot less.

    On top of that,
These are the much sought after 10B series with the famous silver coil dome tweeters.

They are not even peerless version neither RDO upgraded.

Okay, if anyone wants to pay me $300 for my 10's with peerless, they are sold.
No bidding nothing and I'll include 10" metal stands as well but shipping to Maine will be close to that much.

I just looked at what recent monitor 10 sold on eBay and here is what I found. I was surprised at what they are selling for.

    4/28/13--$361.85 (with boxes) + Shipping
    4/25/13--$385.00 (with stands) Free Shipping
    4/19/13--$225.00 + Shipping
    4/14/13--$280.46 Free Shipping
    4/05/13--$198.50 (with stands) + Shipping
    4/01/13--$130.50 +Shipping
    3/24/13--$76.00 +Shipping
    3/10/13--$349.00 +Shipping
    3/01/13--$165.00 +Shipping
    2/27/13--$319.00 Free Shipping
    2/21/13--$299.99 Free Shipping
    2/11/13--$449.98 (with boxes) Free Shipping
    2/06/13--$79.99 Local Pickup Only

From what I see, if you have a pair of 10s with original boxes and stands and give free shipping, you should be able to get about $600 for them on eBay. lol

Attachment not found.Yeah. The 4/14@ 280.46 is the ones i just got & there pretty good condition. I was looking at the last ones that sold to swap out & put those ones above garage in the workout room as it is fairly big area..im pretty sure the ones last night were in a tad bit better overall condition. And i would have upgraded items in them if i would have got them. Not that i cant to these. But if they were OUT OF THE BOX CONDITION--that sure makes them a A+ in my book...

Lol. I dont know going prices. Maybe i should ask on here. But by then there usually gone..also that was 90.00 shipping to my doorstep. Shipping adds to the price after bid..when i saw condition i thought around 325.00 was all i was willing to pay....but it got over bid. So it wasnt a penny out of pocket. Live n learn....

Ebay can be kinda funny sometimes, you never know if the guy you're bidding against isn't in kahoots with the seller. Safer to just buy from a fellow polkie here in the CP flea market.

....you could be right. A great way to make bids go higher. But i didnt budge. I look on here also. But i see alot of sellers dont like shipping. I can understand that..im in no rush. I have lots of spare sets in boxes just collecting dust,so its not top on my list. But i still look for the deal like we all do.....thanks----randy

WRONG! Lots of love out there for the Monitor 10s, as can be seen in the recent sales prices TennMan posted above. I've been offered $400 for these:

    100_6295.jpg
    100_6299.jpg
    100_6309.jpg
    100_6319.jpg
    100_6186.jpg

...and I still got 'em! That offer was also when they were "stock"; prior to L-Rings/Brackets, Dynamat, Armaflex, JB Weld, Sonic Barrier and RDO-194 tweeters. To me, they are the easiest, non-fatiguing pair of speakers to listen to that I've ever heard. Also, when on original stands and matched with a nearly-as-minty pair of Monitor 5jr surrounds, a CS400i center and a DSWPRO550wi sub, they make for great anchors to quite a terrific surround sound setup.

Granted, part of my love for them might be because I bought them new ($599 + tax) in '89 for my parents, after which (two years later) they were boxed back up in their original boxes, plastic bags and styrofoam supports for over 20 years until I got them out again about two years ago. At that time, in 2011, they probably didn't even have break-in hours of use since they had left the store in 1989.

Ok, let me word it differently, In my opinion, They are not worth $400. I have a lot of love for the 10's and 7's, and have owned both, both sets were in near mint condition, I payed $75 for each pair. "Again" not worth $400.

I could buy a pair of 10's, fully upgrade them, and still have some of that $400 in my pocket..

I see where people on here are able to pick speakers and gear up dirt cheap all the time but I just don't have that kind of luck. I had a pair of 10s for a couple of years. I liked them a lot and would still have them if I had the room. I would agree that 10s aren't worth $400 when SDAs can be had for less.

Price is set by what buyers pay for a pair.
However, as far as prices go, I got 3.1TL's for $250, CRS+ for $150, 10's with peerless for $75, 12's for $100 and all of those were in CL for days if not weeks.
I get that those mentioned here have boxes but they don't make sound and I'm not paying that much when I can easily get SDA's for a lot less.
Heck, I even passed on 2.3's for $400 due to lack of space in my living room.

I sold my monitor 10s with peerless tweets here to a fellow club polker for $75. I thought I did pretty good getting that price for them. If i had known someone would pay a premium price for them I might have asked for a little bit more for them.

He actually paid me an extra $25 when I delivered them to him. They are a very nice speaker to be sure.

Yeah Steve, I think I'll be hangin' onto them for good...especially since I didn't let them go stock for $400! And since then, got most of the mods/upgrades done. No, the 2Bs are all TL'd up, spiked and have pretty much all the mods/upgrades done and are all set. Might still redo the grille cloth, but that's about it.

From what I see, if you have a pair of 10s with original boxes and stands and give free shipping, you should be able to get about $600 for them on eBay. lol

Funny you should mention $600. Somebody has a pair of Monitor 10As with Peerless tweeters and "Highly sought after gray trim drivers" listed on the 'bay right now for a BIN price of $475 + $125 shipping. However, they do not come with boxes and/or stands. Feel free to jump in on the low-ball auction starting bid of only $349+!!

LOTS of variability in the pricing of the 10s. Another pair of 10Bs in what looks to be good-to-very-good condition didn't even sell in an auction that ended yesterday - for pickup only - in Hyannis, MA, with a starting bid of $49.99. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Polk-Audio-Monitor-Series-10-Speakers-/161012905649?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&nma=true&si=zNTd070SEmUKGEGO12Jx751mAIs%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

I see people, including myself, pick up some of the vintage monitors for bargain prices. Good for us. However, just because we find these bargains, and therefore eschew higher prices, does not mean that the speakers aren't worth more.

In stock form and after 20-30 years, the monitor series still holds up well against most sub-$1k speakers sold today. Upgraded with new crossovers and RDO tweeters, they are hard to beat at their cost, even at the eBay premiums.

.....VERY GOOD POINT..as i state in the first post. I was willing to pay 325.00 plus shipping. I lost out. I kinda thought that was a great deal if i had won. IF THEY COST 599.00 plus tax new. Back in the day
then what if someone has some MINT ones for sale..too me i was hoping to buy them and do upgrades to make them perfect. So if i had let say 800.00 dollars into these and they performed OUTSTANDING wouldnt that be a worth while investment...
