Looking to buy a blu-ray player. Would prefer it to play SACD just so I can see what that's all about.

I know $200 is a low budget, but I am ok buying used.

Any recommendations???

Thanks all.

    Thanks DSkip.

Yea, I'm figuring an 83 used for around $275-300, but I was hoping I might get away with something sub $200.

Keep the suggestions coming if you got em.

Sony's flagship model the 790 is $248 new. Might get a better price if you're patient/shop around. Does 4k, great upconverter, and SACD.

Agreed, the Pio 150 looks like a nice player. Amazon has it for $139.95. Only thing is it doesn't have built in wifi, you'll have to hard wire or buy the dongle. If you look past that, it's a great player (and does SACD) for the price.

The Pioneer does look pretty nice.

Now I'll have to try to figure out if a new Pio for $140 is better value than a used Oppo 83 for $300.

Besides the 790, if you DONT need blu-ray look for something like the Denon 3910 which is what I just picked up.

Otherwise I would be looking Oppo

I agree, I gave mine to my son. I was doing movie, music streaming with it back in the day but the transport for CDs and SACD even with an external DAC is terrible. Not really that great of a BRP either. My son uses it for games which I suppose is its real intended purpose.

Just compared on the sony website and there doesn't seem to be much difference between the 790, 590 and 390.

The 390 doesn't do skyp or 5.1, but this will be used in my 2-ch system anyways.

Plus it does Wifi so we could use the Amazon Prime instant video stream (though I'm not real impressed with the available selection).

Maybe not as good as the Oppo's, but very tempting at around $60-70 used.

No, I hear ya. I know the Oppo will be better. Just trying to work within a budget after some recent upgrades.

I know that waiting till it is in the budget is a better idea, but right now I don't have a blu ray player for the 2-ch rig so my blu rays aren't getting any love with the lsi's.

So just get a cheap 75 dollar blu ray player for just purpose for now and save for what your really want the universal till you can get it.

If you're on a "budget", the Sony will doya! Otherwise, sure Oppo, but that is a price leap that some of us might hesitate to take, if you know what the wife means, that is!

It may not be important to ya but I don't think that Pioneer 150 plays DVD-Audio.

Denon and Marantz have some universal Bluray players too that do SACD and DVD-Audio.

No worries. It will play blu-rays with no problem and has Pandora and Netflix. It will not however play DVD's (go figure). Doesnt matter how new or perfect they are, it simply wont. But it hasnt had problems with any blu-ray I have thrown at it. Just so your aware. So if your looking for blu-ray only (and no 3D) this would work good.

    Alright folks...

Won an auction for an Oppo bdp-83!

Very much looking forward to it.

The plan is to run it digital out to the PS audio DAC for audio and HDMI to the tv for video.

Any other thoughts or suggestions, please let me know.

Just as an FYI the digital out wont let you do SACD or DVD-A over the digital outs. Page 15 in the manual
Due to copyright restrictions, SACD audio cannot be sent through the coaxial or
optical digital audio output. To listen to SACD, please use the HDMI or analog audio
    connections.

Due to copyright restrictions and bandwidth limitations, full resolution audio from DVDAudio
discs cannot be sent through the coaxial or optical digital audio output. To listen
to DVD-Audio in full resolution, please use the HDMI or analog audio connections.

Now I dont know if you can downconvert it to PCM and send it out that way or not, and I could be totally wrong, I just saw that and thought it was worth mentioning.
