...does 1978 or 79 ring a bell. One of the worst in DC .. 17" or more depending. I lived on Capitol Hill in the day. Was great to walk to Bars and Restaurants. Lived a block off Pa. Ave....got neighbors to shovel out to it. We were the few that got to travel.

Yup, 78 in MD wasn't too bad (at least compared to MA); 79 was the bad one. I had a Ford Bronco and spent a night in '79 driving some hospital personnel to work and delivering coffee :-) to some folks stranded at work. Somewhere I still have a thank-you note from the Anne Arundel Co commissioner for volunteering that night. 4x4s weren't a dime a dozen in those days.

about 6 inches out here in the deep NW burbs of Bahsten. Going to snowblow the driveway before going to bed tonight (can't hurt)... and we'll see what the morning brings.

Already had a reverse 911 call from the town - the dump is closed tomorrow :-( So, this storm is already catastrophic, from my perspective.

    Couple of feet? Easy dude, A foot (30 cm's). I doubt we'll see TWO feet (60 cm's!).

OK, I say 50 cm on my driveway then. I shoveled over 20 cm in the morning, and it was way more than that when I showed up home at 5pm. And with a f*cking snowplow, it WAS a meter-high wall of solid ice and snow in front of the driveway. Big thanks goes to neighbour with a snowblower, and even to him it took about 20-30 minutes to get through that wall to clear a way onto our two driveways.

I just came back in from doing ours - about 6" on the driveway and windy (I love having snow blowing into my face and frosting my glasses).

Susan did the front walk & steps; said about an inch fell during the time we were out (a bit less than an hour).
I am about a half-hour north of Woosta, as a point of reference.

Last i knew your mansion was in the area of the 495/route 2 intersection. I'll keep your town anonymous for thievery purposes
You're still in the same area looking at 24" by tomorrow.

It is snowing and windy as a b@st@rd right now. I may just take my chances in the morning. My blowers has a 28" mouth so if anything i'll do 1/2cuts versus going for stuffed cheeks. I'll definitely pull out the roof rake while i'm at it.

    ayup.

Looking at roof raking on the morrow as well - we had some insulation work done last year so I am not actually too concerned about ice dams on most of the house - but I don't like having too, too much snow on the roof due to its weight.

EDIT - aww, fug... the wind is starting to pick up :-(

Big outages on the MA "South Shore" and/or "South Coast" according to the TV news.
Snow on the coast is wet and heavy, winds strong, the upcoming high tide (ca. 10am) is a concern for folks near the water.

In contrast, looks like about 20 to 22" here of dry fluffy/crystalline snow. Still snowing/blowing too hard to clean up.
Time to build a fire and do some inside chores :-)

We've had many, many storms like this in the 22 years I've lived here... just sayin'.

Dig that last pic, reminds me of a few storms we had here. Kinda wondering where these people think they are going after shoveling out their cars though. Here in chicago, they just use end loaders with forks on them to scoop cars. Damage ?....what damage ?

Little over 2' here, drifts as high as 3-4' in some spots

This totally sucks, I will now have to wait til Monday for delivery of my HVAC unit, and then who knows how long before I will be able
to get it hooked up? (some of the 3-4' drifts mentioned is alongside of my house...right where the condenser is going)
I may as well re-schedule the carpeting installation while I am at it too. Damn.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

We got about 2 feet here in Quincy. The wind knocked out the communication tower that sits on top of Quincy station so they have NO communication for the entire MBTA transit system. They hope to have everything operational for Monday morning.

I lost power sometime last night and just got it back around 12:45pm today. Power was out long enough that the building back up generator died as well. The halls were pitch black. fortunately I had nowhere to go.

In Boston an 11 year old boy has died of carbon monoxide poisoning. He was helping his dad shovel and got into the running car to warm up, they didn't realize the tail pipe was covered, and to make matter worse his father has had a heart attack. No word on his condition.

What are the temps dropping to after the storm passes? It looks like most of you have some cleaning up to do stay safe a little at a time is the best way looks like a lot of people won't be going anywhere anytime soon. When we get dumped on round here it usually gets down in the single digits with negative windchills, which makes the clean up only worst. Stay safe and warm.
