Cable Swap Program

CLOSED - THIS PROGRAM NO LONGER EXISTS

This program was created to allow members the opportunity to demo cables in their own environment, under their own conditions. I’m not selling these cables, and have no direct affiliation with any of these companies. The intention is to remove the bias that is typically generated by a general statement, and allow you to conduct your own double blind testing, or any testing, of the programs’ products. I don’t care whether you buy anything, but I do think it’s imperative to make your own in-house evaluation, and stop listening only to what you read.

If it makes a difference on YOUR rig, in YOUR home....then it’s beneficial. It may not do anything, or display any change, but don’t you think that YOU should make that determination? It’s true, cable theory is theory....but it has an application in the real world to alot of individuals.

I'm trying to include cables in this program that are modestly priced, and easy to obtain.

If you are a cable non-believer, then please sign up and test your head. Your opinion is as valuable as the next and is welcome in this program.

It doesn’t matter whether you believe in the benefits of upgraded or “high end” cables, it’s just giving you the chance to determine the benefits, or lack thereof, on your own.

I started the program, completely out-of-pocket; in order to give something back to the forum that consumes me on a daily basis. This is bar-none the best forum that I take part in, period. I also approached other manufacturers with this program idea, some balked, some walked and some stepped up and thought it was a good idea. There are a couple members that also stepped up and donated cables to the program. That’s what community is all about.

I will talk about some of that later, now on to the rules of engagement. The program works in this fashion….

The program is currently active, so if you wish to participate in a current demo, you simply sign up in THIS thread. You just have to specify what you’re interested in joining, and I will add you to the “roster”. This is the homepage, or “sticky” thread, and it will contain the bulk of information regarding this exercise and all updates to the active roster.

The “demo” time period is approximately two (2) weeks from receipt of the cable and/or cables.

The roster contains the names of the current participants, in regards to the individual demos, and the status of the actual demo (e.g.. Completed…Demo…Skipped, etc). The participants are responsible for contacting the next member; when their demo is complete, in order to arrange shipping information.

It is perfectly acceptable to be involved in multiple demos, and I actually encourage members to get involved with as much as is possible. Please get involved, as the forum is interested in your comments and thoughts on this subject.

After you have completed your demo, you are required to post your review of that interconnect(s) in the appropriate thread. Please realize that this is one of the most important parts of the program, as it pertains to your actual views on the experience. I will have an individual thread created, for interconnects in the program, and have it linked to the homepage thread. I will also emphasize that you should conduct double blind testing, but if that is not convenient, your opinion is still valuable.

The demo-completed member should at that point contact the next participant and arrange shipping. This is the only cost you incur in this program, shipping to the next member. I would suggest USPS Priority Mail, but that is entirely up to the parties involved.

Our Canadian Polkies are fully involved and welcomed to this program as well.

HEY what's with you people, you nay sayers??? This is the perfect opportunity to hear what you've been missing and it'll only cost you maybe $5.00 in shipping. Send Doro an email and let's get the ball rolling.

    I'm from Canada as well.

I'll pass on the Diamondbacks, I've already heard them.

If the lend time isn't too long, I'd be willing to contribute a pair of Kimber Hero's to help the program.

I am all over this idea. I already have the Ananlog 2s, but when the Diamondbacks make their turn, I am there.

I will also be contributing some DIY cables to this program. I've already got a few types of suitable wire and I'll be getting some suitable RCAs for X-Mas.

DCarlson- Fantastic! Email me for some specifics, but you would have to expect a 6 month+ loss, thats what I am expecting.

Interested, but not in a position to jump in until I can raise my left arm at least head high (system set up). Few more weeks to go...

Must confess that I have been wondering about the workability "honor system", but have no reservations about any of the folk signed up so far...
    More later,
    Tour...

ok i got some ?'s. how do you know who to send it to next? is there some check off list if you're already had the cable? i'd love to demo the diamondback and Kimber hero too. When a cable arrives.. where do you recommend it be used for the demo. between pre/pro or CD to receiver?

so put me on the list. for a small shipping fee.. it's about the only way i'll ever be able to demo any good cables. other than IXOS and Monster stuff.

i'm in. let me know what to do next.

    thanks, Al

DB - Thanks for looking. I will have the personal information on file here, and let the next guy know as they finish their demo....where it goes next.

The demo is completely up to the user, demo the cable wherever you wish. You could try it in either place, to see where it makes a difference, if any.

Tour - This would be perfect for you. Get your family to chip in and run the double blind test for you :D Sit back listen, and have a cold beer.

Tour - That's a 1 1/2 months probably as it is....is that enough time? Or should I wait for one more person?

One more person and this thing gets started this week!!!!

Phoneisbusy(Dave) - I am going to start with you since you are the first volunteer, and the only Canadian, is that ok?

That means you will be shipping back into CONUS. I will give you a call tomorrow, to confirm by voice that we are clear on how things work.

I really only use Acoustic Research Master series cables, but Im interested in trying this.

I have been told by a NUMBER of people that power AC adaptors can make a world of differience. My NAD 541i doesnt' have a detachable powercord but I've heard of people using an adaptor. Know of any that work with existing AC power cords?

    Phoneisbusy
    Danger Boy
    Terrax
    Tour2ma
    Lush(New)

    AQ DEMO
    Gidrah

Airplay - I am adding you Airplay, you have no choice ;) Just kidding. We will help you every step of the way, don't sweat it. Age makes no difference, as long as you hold up your end of the program. What would be complicated? You mean conducting the demo in a Double Blind format?

Lush - I wouldn't personally bother with an adapter, it ruins the whole effort. That "upgrade" is also subjective and highly debated. The only way is to try for yourself. I personally have not noticed an improvement with a better power cable, but then again, I also havn't put any effort to really check. I will probably do a Signal Cable Magic Power demo after the Audioquest demo.

Phoneisbusy - Shipped today, Global Priority Mail. I had to declare a value, regardless of what shipping method I used. I claimed $1, so I guess you may have to pay duty on that. Let me know what happens on your end upon receipt.

Dcarlson - $8, for USPS Global Priority Mail.

    Just a thought...

Maybe the reviews should go to Mark (Dorok) via email. Once the cables have made their rounds, he could post them. That way, it could possibly be a little more objective.

DCarlson - That is an interesting idea. I definetly want to keep the demo's un-biased, but also want to keep it fresh and something that people would like to read about. The actual demo comments/review thread will be different from this information thread, so that should help. If the demo is done Double Blind....then it should be fine. We will see how it goes I guess.

Airplay - I will add you to the roster. You only need two trips to the PO, one for pickup and one for shipping. :) Let me know if you need any help on specifics.
