It's been awhile since anyone posted in here so I'm assuming we are all just too busy enjoying to post any updates. My unit actually had to get sent back because of a high pitch hum that wasn't going away. The seller was super responsive and since I'm about 45min from him he came and picked it up saved me the shipping. Turns out there was a issue with the tube heater wire, but I just picked it back up and enjoying some tunes.

Anyone try rolling the EL34 tubes with success? I took Michaels recommendation on the Mullards and loved the results for the smaller preamp tubes.

How about that for customer service! Glad to hear you like the Mullards. I really like the stock Shuguang EL 34's, to my ears they have a fuller sound and seem more robust than the Winged C's IMO. You're welcome to give the winged C's a listen. Just shoot me a PM.

Yes really great customer service and somewhat local was why I spent my money with him. I could tell in my conversations he really wanted to make it right and felt bad any of it was happening. Thanks for the offer on the tubes and I have some Shuguang Treasures if you are interested. To my ears they are a smoother sound then the stock tubes that were provided. I would be interested in trying the Gold Lions as well, but didn't know if the KT77 was a issue.

Got an email from my reseller this morning (same as factorz's above). The input board is on the way. Perfect timing as I'm out of work this week for spring break.

Shuguang Treasures, cool :) I didn't know you had those. Thanks for the offer as well! I thought about buying some but I didn't know if there would be that much of an improvement to justify the cost. Of course, I'll never know unless I try them.....do you feel they're worth the price (around $400 for a quad IIRC)? If so, I'll consider buying a quad as I would be too nervous that something would go wrong with yours while I'm auditioning them (shipping damage, etc).

I'm pretty sure Song (Ebay seller of Yaqins) said the KT77's are not compatible in the amp.

I can't remember if you answered my question regarding the RCA jacks on your amp....are the input wires inside the amp wired wrong from the factory or did they simply reverse the black and red pieces of plastic/nylon inside of the RCA jack itself on a couple of the inputs?

That's because I really don't have an answer. The amp has been boxed up since mid Jan. since I moved into my new place. I'm using my Yamaha at the moment until I get the new board.

Before going to the hassle of opening up the amp, try plugging in only the left channel input in question and listen to which speaker sound is coming out of. My guess is that the wiring isn't reversed on the inside, it's just that they switched the color pieces in the RCA jacks. It could save the hassle of switching out an entire board when the problem is just reversed colors. It's a similar issue that the SDA SRS 1.2's had when they left the factory; the illustration on the back of the speaker showed the red binding post nut on the right when in fact it's supposed to be on the left (they used an old label from the original SRS to get rid of old stock). The wiring inside was correct.

But that doesn't fix the RCA sleeve that came off the unit for input 1 when I was unplugging it to pack it up.

The sleeve should have prongs. Did you try to reinsert it and it didn't stay in? If that's the case I can understand getting a new board.

Yeah, it comes back out. It seemed to be crimped inside somehow.

Well even with the over the top customer service provided my issue is still not fixed so I'm coming to the group for ideas. Outside of the idea it's just a bad unit anything else I should consider. The issue is a high pitch hum very to similar to a microphonic tube, but confident that is not the issue as it's happened with 4 different sets of tubes. Adjusting volume does not affect the sound and it is present in both channels. I'm pretty sure it's the unit because when I put in my old Denon integrated I don't have the issue. Putting my ear up to the tweeter I can hear it but it also can get louder to where I can hear it at my seated position.

Speakers: RTA-12C or 5B's (issue with either)
Source: Squeezebox Touch with seperate power supply.
    DAC: Bit Frost w/Uber upgrade
    Cables: Emotiva
    Yaqin MS30L

I have swapped out tubes and also changed out my power strip for a new one along with using a different outlet. My listening area is a basement and wonder if the cold winter has made it too dry?? The seller is willing to come back with a new unit so we can do a comparison but was hoping for some other suggestions. Thanks.

Sorry to hear you're still having problems with it. :( Can't think of any solutions. Hopefully a different 30L won't have any problems.

My apologies for not giving a final update on this one because great customer service deserves a highlight. Since my unit was still having the issue Ray showed up with a brand new unit and took the old one back. All is good on my end and I'm enjoying my unit more then ever right now.

I still stand by my orginal review of this unit and think anyone wanting to get into tube without breaking the bank should give it a look. The great customer service I recieved is the icing on the cake.

Cool! The MC-30L and the MS 20L are great amps and everyone who comes over to my house for a listen are amazed at how good it sounds. They call it "old school sound. It's an excellent, inexpensive way to try out tubes.

Thanks! Looks like 50 watts will do it and being "common ground" for the 1C all I will be out at first is the money for the Amp. Here is the one I am thinking of getting any comments or help is appreciated. If you know of a better one in that price range or a better place to buy for price or quality I am all ears.

Avoid buying direct from china. it's very expensive to ship back and forth in case there's an issue.

Ray is a GREAT guy! The other thing I'd recommend is get one with a remote. I'm glad I have mine. Also, I like the 10C because it on has 4 pre tubes which should prove cheaper to roll.

  • I have to give another plug for Ray. I corresponded with him quite a bit before buying my MS38 which is a remodeled MC-30. Now granted mine has more pre tubes but to be honest they are much less expensive than power tubes and last forever. Mine came with the Blue glass 6CA7's.
