    According to order of operations: P E M D O S...the multiplication and division must be done first. 1 x 0 is zero. 2 divided by 2 = 1.

    That leaves 6 - 0 + 1. Which equals 7.

    to be honest it depends on what state you were tought in. one state Texas I think tosses out the pemdos stuff for memdos or something. so some states it is 1 and others it is 7

    hard to believe that's the way it is... I learned math in TX, and PEMDOS seems right to me... can you point to your source? I'm not doubting that you're right -- it just seems so ridiculous that I want to see it with my own eyes. ;)

    I googled that equation that took me to youtube and somewhere on that youtube page I looked at others. It was there. It just seemed so silly to me. It may of been another state but they were teaching another formula that worked out to 1. I hope these students don't become NASA engineers we'll never get to Mars the short way:cheesygrin:
