I agree with natural. I don't understand really why you want to change an already dynamite system! If less bulk is what your after then I'd think you'd go after a 5 channel like the A51 Parasound, to help consolidate a little, but I'd only do that for music reasons. I don't know how much 'better' it can get really.

Thats it. I want to run off 1 amp powering four loudspeakers. But do not want a downgrade. And from what it seems here on the forums there is not much downgrade left from emotiva. But I like the advice given. If you all fell good where Im at it makes me happy to know I wasnt way far off. But if I had it to do again I would sought forum opinions in more detail.

    Hi Folks,

Sorry to get of the topic (Emotiva Amps) but I have been running my A9's with Pre Power combo of Acurus L10/A250 and believe me it sounds heavenly. Got a 10 year old used combo but its really worth it. Very neutral sounding, clean and transparent... made for each other. Have always fancied the XPA - 5 and maybe some day will try out this combo. But these speakers are worth every penny you spend for sure

I have a XPA-5 and a UPA-5. First amps I have ever bought and for the time being I'm happy with them. Not saying that I will never trade them off on something different, but for now I'm smiling.

John..guess i'm missing something here again, Now from what i understand, you have 4 9's

Meaning 2 for the fronts, 2 for the rear, plus the center channel.

You have the Emo xpa -5 according to there spec's you should be able to run all your speakers off the one amp.

Why did you buy the other amp??

Were you told at the time, the Xpa-5 would NOT do the job for you??

I mean just to free up space, from what i see, you just don't need the other amp...

Come on guys, my xpa 5 arrives 12/21 and I'm already questioning my decision! I did let a budget and being leary of used direct me to the xpa 5. I would've liked the Parasound 5250 v but cost was prohibtive. The wyred 4 sound as well as the ATI's were also on my mind.

Don't sweat it man! Get it, set it up properly, turn the big knob clockwise (heheheh) and enjoy! There are many Polkies that have Emo gear and love it! I must admit a 5250 would be AMAZING but that stuff just ain't in the budget!

Yea, I was kind of half heartedly joking. It is my first amp and I'm sure it will work well for my set up. I'd like to go to a 7.1 set up soon so that's my next direction, want to get the amp in place and see how everthing sounds before making any decisions.

John, your just wasting the power is all your doing. The 2 9's as surrounds aren't going to use that much power and the top portion of the 9's in general aren't using that much power. Most all speakers these days have 5 way binding posts to bi-wire, bi-amp. It's not always needed though. One 5 channel amp is all you need. Plus you have 2 subs taking a huge load off the speakers so thats even less power you'd need. Matter of fact, with those 2 subs powering the lows, I'll bet that receiver by it's self can power the whole thing.

Well John, sounds like a nice way to sell you an extra amp you really don't need. He may have been going for a sudo SDA effect, with the way it's wired. But unlikely you would really hear anything with the whole system going.

Your Onkyo is a very nice AVR. It's supposed to put out 140 watts per channel. You could wire everything up to that and see how you like it. But since you have the 5 channel amp sitting there, i would use that, just for the extra overhead it gives you.

The other amp is just a complete waste of time and money. Just pull it out, put back the jumpers on the front 9's and run the one amp.
