Very clean pair of 1.2TL's. I hope he gets it - it's a lot of money but not outside the realm of reason for someone with the disposable income and a burning desire for the king of SDA...

I call it "trolling for idiots". There's no shortage of items on eBay with asking prices two to ten times what the item is worth. They get re-listed and re-listed until some bonehead who failed to perform "due diligence" buys them.
-
He states these are TLs. Have a look at the tweeters.
At some point, the SRS family will/have become a collectors item. I bought my 1.2's in 1988 for ~$2500 which is about $5,000 today. They hold up very well so longevity and wear is not an issue. Can you buy better sounding speakers today for $5,000, maybe but that's not always the point. I recently bought a classic car, unrestored, low mileage survivor for very close to the inflation adjusted price from when it was new. Could I have purchased a better car today with that money? Or course, but guess which one people want to ride in
BTW, I researched the car market for a year and knew the pricing before hand.'65 427 Shelby Cobra

Agreed
Look at the Sony SCD-1 which still commands a high value despite being a very old CD player. There are plenty of audio pieces that are 20 years old but command a high resale value due to their benefits
The SDA line will be there one day -
You have to wonder whether mods we are doing to vintage SDA SRSs will diminish their value if or when they become collectors' items. That is generally the case in the "antique" market. I for one am more than willing to trade-off potential future resale value for SUCH GOOD SOUND now! After all, I have no plans ever to sell mine.Family Room, Innuos Statement streamer (Roon Core) with Morrow Audio USB cable to McIntosh MC 2700 pre with DC2 Digital Audio Module; AQ Sky XLRs to CAT 600.2 dualmono amp, Morrow Elite Speaker Cables to NOLA Baby Grand Reference Gold 3 speakers. Power source for all components: Silver Circle Audio Pure Power One with dedicated 20 amp circuit to main panel.
Exercise Room, Innuos Streamer via Cat 6 cable connection to PS Audio PerfectWave MkII DAC w/Bridge II, AQ King Cobra RCAs to Perreaux PMF3150 amp (fully restored and upgraded by Jeffrey Jackson, Precision Audio Labs), Supra Rondo 4x2.5 Speaker Cables to SDA 1Cs (Vr3 Mods Xovers and other mods.), Dreadnaught with Supra Rondo 4x2.5 interconnect cables by Vr3 Mods. Power for each component from dedicated 20 amp circuit to main panel, except Innuos Statement powered from Silver Circle Audio Pure Power One. -
If that is what you want and they are local and they are perfect I could see buying them for that.
Yes they are TL, yes they are like new, yes they are original owner, hmmmm...only if they were local.
There will be no more SDA speakers like these or the ones we all have, no more. If Polk ever made new
SDA speakers like this, in the USA, they would cost about $7500 + tax, they won't.
He says:
Polk SDA SRS 1.2TL Speakers
I originally purchased these speakers new in 1992. They retailed for $1,750 each
The speakers have been stored for many years in a climate controlled room and are in excellent condition.

In the near term, no. 25 years or more from today I would say yes. It's the same for most vintage, classic, antique items. They are only original once and collecters pay a premium for number's matching, unmolested, survivors, especially from the original owner with supporting documents.
But as in everything we weigh the performance and enjoyment we get today against the future value. Most people can't leave stuff alone and those rare original items were spared the improvements because they were stashed away and forgotten.'65 427 Shelby Cobra

I am glad I was able to purchase an original set of 1.2tl's and a modded set of 1.2tl's. It's the best of both worlds. It's interesting to hear the suttle differances.Polk HT system 1: LSIC, LSI25 mains, LSI F/X rears, Lsi F/X rear centers,
Yamaha RX-V2500 System, Carver A753 3 channel amp.
Polk HT system 2: , SRT system with f/x 1,000's rear speakers on 7.1 system currently using Onkyo TX-RZ820 receiver, powered by Sunfire Grand Theater amp
Polk Speaker collection: SDA SRS 1.2tl x 2, SRT system, SDA SRS 2 P/B, SDA 2A, SDA 1C Studio, SDA CRS+, Monitor 7B & 4, SRS 3.1tl, RTA 15tl, LS90, LSI 9 -

SDA's a collectors item? Maybe more for nostalgia reasons a less for sound as they'll always be something better out there. -
It's all to each their own. Better to Who?? And yes, original untouched does make a difference to the collector. I'm not a collector of Polk, but if I were, yes, untouched from the factory would be a huge plus!"if it's not fun, it's not worth it & remember folks, "It's All About The Music"!!

Collectible speakers??? These are NOT a 69 Z-28, nore a 57 Les Paul gold top.
Going by that logic, my fathers 60's something custom made Bozak Massive speakers should be worth a fortune. When in fact, to make them play well, you would have to have every driver in there redone completely, and both X overs, which would cost you a small fortune in it self. Nobody i know of buys speakers as a collectible item. Plus who would want to. Just because a bunch of idiots on ebay thinks there speakers are worth a butt load of money, does not make it so...LOL -
Too funny!"if it's not fun, it's not worth it & remember folks, "It's All About The Music"!!

No..i don't think it's funny...i just think it's stupid. Unless you want to put a set of SRS speakers in your living room as a set of antiques..not to be played, which i don't think anybody would do....there pretty much useless if they don't work, and don't work RIGHT. Stereo speakers are not collectible...there not 1940's radios or something. The speakers are worth 1K on a good day, "assuming" all the drivers work 100% Then you would have to pay another 1K to replace all the tweeters and X over...Easy.
Your buying a set of speakers..NOT a car or something else. The price of 2500 is just far beyond what there worth. -
I'd not pay that much even for TL'ed pair but that's just me.

I bought my SDA SRS 1.2TL's from a forum member who had them on eBay. I paid $2,550 and they were well worth it. I would have gotten them for less had it not been for two other aggressive bidders.
The seller inheirited them from the original owner (her brother) and they came with original accessories, receipt and manual. They had been sitting in a closet for seven years and were well cared for by the original owner.Proud and loyal citizen of the Digital Domain and Solid State Country! -
The seller is saying in the listing that they're 1.2TL's. So not sure exactly what I'm looking at here. I've seen mint condition 1.2TL's sell for $1500-$1800 here on the forum in stock condition. Eight new tweeters is ~$400. So I'd say a pair of 1.2TL's with RD-0198's and rebuilt crossovers with high-end caps might be worth $2500. These in the listing? No way.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.
-
Have any of you seen what some vintage speakers go for? To say they are not worth it or they won't be collector items is that same kid that didn't think that hot wheel or pez despenser, baseball card "OR"!!!! that 69 Camaro is just a used car worn out and will never be worth anything..
You never know!! nobody knows what one will deem a collector piece..
There is already a slew of people that want to get their hands on a set of SDA's it's just that most are cheap and want everything for nothing.. and not everybody that wants them or looking for them is a member here or even knows about this forum.. -
yep like some of the JBL paragon or other's in that series start at 5 figures AND THEY GET IT.....
I bet all that sold theirs 20yrs ago for very little scratch wish they still had them to sell..... -
No problem..hell i'l sell you my set of SDA 1c's for a mear 1K....LOL There pretty much from 1987 and need all the tweeters replaced and the X over, but you say there worth all kinds of money....LOL
You really have to be jokeing right?? -
...and not everybody that wants them or looking for them is a member here or even knows about this forum..
The guy I bought my 2B's from used to sell Polk speakers and knows all about SDA, SRT, Monitors etc... but when I asked him about Polkaudio forum, he said 'What, hmm...'?

LMAO...JBL Paragons are so far off the mark as to be stupid. These things are massive and look like furnature.
You want to compare these to Polk speakers??????
I give up..spend what you want... -
Dude relax!!! Quit being that guy!!!!

-
^^^^agree^^^^^
Agree here as well. One never knows what one will spend on what, so don't hate..appreciate!"if it's not fun, it's not worth it & remember folks, "It's All About The Music"!!

The way I look at it is this; Everything I own is for sale, for the right price. He may feel like anything less than said price isn't worth letting them go. If he finds someone who wants them bad enough to spend said price then it's a win. I wouldn't sell my corvette for anything close to the kbb value, it wouldn't be worth it to me and has too much sentimental value. However if someone is willing to pay 10k over, i'll detail and deliver it to ya . Not worth getting worked up over, even if it seems a little high.
