Well kept equipment will always be worth more than abused stuff. If they are close to you and they are what you want then go for it. Look at the photos of the orphans that Laserath dragged home a while back....way not pretty and would he let them go for 2500 today, I doubt it. No..i don't think it's funny...i just think it's stupid. Unless you want to put a set of SRS speakers in your living room as a set of antiques..not to be played, which i don't think anybody would do....there pretty much useless if they don't work, and don't work RIGHT. Stereo speakers are not collectible...there not 1940's radios or something. The speakers are worth 1K on a good day, "assuming" all the drivers work 100% Then you would have to pay another 1K to replace all the tweeters and X over...Easy.

Your buying a set of speakers..NOT a car or something else. The price of 2500 is just far beyond what there worth.

You haven't got a clue, not an effing clue. You should shut up now before you embarrass yourself further.

Natlight....you are getting worked up over trivial BS. People collect all kinds of things! No matter how weird you may think it is. Yes there are people that collect speakers. Remember this....something is worth what someone will pay for it! I collected guitars, until a layoff that is, where some models (for example) may have cost $400 when new and now are worth 3 times that. And folks on eBay ponied right up to buy. Where you been dude?

If you guys want to get worked up about something you should see the back and forth that's going on in my local craigslist. Some bozo listed a "used" Sansui G 8700 for $3000 dollars claiming it was almost NOS (which it was NOT) and told everyone it was a "fabulous" buy for that price (a thirty year old piece with no updates, original parts). Then the vintage "boys" came out of the woodwork and called the guy "nuts". And he responded. I've never seen CL go over the edge like this.

It's almost like that cable debate that continuously rears its head here!

If I had to choose between a 3K Sansui and the set of Polk SDAs above, I think you all know what I'd pick! (hint, there's a P in the product name).

Maybe the seller does not want to part with them but significant other wants them gone, so puts them on e-bay at a price he feels safe that they wont go, and significant other sees them on e-bay and is happy that an effort has been put forth. I have a son in law that was told buy my daughter to sell his road bike he put it on craigslist at a steep price to please her, he still has that bike.

Is the price high? Maybe. But if I walked into a high fi store I would not hear a better pair of speakers than those at that price. I know what the market is but that doesn't change the reality of how those speakers sound compared to others in that price range.

This is just my opinion of course but I love the way the 1.2TL's sound in the right room.

they are minty and someone local to him probably wants these bad enough considering to get something that outperforms them you would have to pay 10x the amount

Last time I checked they haven't made the big sda's for about 20 years now. My thinking is that they can only get more valuable as time goes on. My bud picked up a pair of out of the box mint and still stock SRS's this summer for a smoking deal at $600. 6 months earlier I brought my modded 1.2tl's home for $2,300. Mine were plug and play (recapped, rdo1098's, cardas posts and so on). I still think I got the best deal. Would I trade my 1.2s for some mint untouched SRS,s plus $1,700 cash? Thanks but no thanks.

I look at it this way. It's on eBay and no where near me so without being able to hear them I would pass. Too many times have I seen people get burned. For all I know all the drivers are cooked and need to be replaced and without hearing them I would not take a risk paying top dollar.

And sure you maybe able to get a refund if they are not what they say they are but shipping will not be cheap and who knows if you will get your money refunded for that.

Like buying a car or any high cost item off Ebay, I always check it out personally or get a surrogate to check it. I hate even dealing with things that I can't drive to for inspection and bring home behind my truck.

Finding them local to me is a big part of the deal $$$ because of the size.
I don't what something like that shipped. When I found my SDA 1C for $300 local
    and made the appointment.
I could not sleep that night before.
I was like a little kid.
I got them for $250 and so happy I won't forget, it's been a year and as clear as yesterday.
Realize Houston is big and they just don't show up hardly at all around here.

A bunch of chicken littles.

Shipping big speakers is easy, good cartons, good packing and strapped to a pallet. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy!

I think you meant "You don't want" shipping. Shipping of my 1B's was a dream as the seller had the original boxes and packing material. I'll hang on to that stuff, but highly doubt I'll ever sell em. Just saying, hats off (that is Top Hats) to the people that keep the original packaging material!!

Yea I guess I felt so much more comfortable meeting with the owner, seeing them, hearing them and putting them in the car and bringing them right home meant a lot to me  And yes sir Mr. F1nut shipping for me is scary and a worry. I would have to hire a shipping company:cheesygrin:

I'd pay $2500 for a set if my neighbour had them for sale.

I shipped mine From Houston to Saudi Arabia and back, then from Houston to TN. For the overseas move, I build big crates that looked like coffins with 10" of foam rubber completely surrounding them inside.

That said, I would not want to ship them again. It's always a risk.
