Special Deal For Someone

Mark,
I would love to do that and would cover the cost of boards.
What I would need from you is a schematic of the crossover and a dimensional drawing of the cabinet so I know how much interior room there is to work with and then get with Trey so I know exactly what components he want's to use. Of course this all depends on if Trey want's to go this route.
Do you want to take this project to a PM level to keep everyone in suspense.“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” ~ Mark Twain -
The scope of this is much different than what I originally though. The new scope is great though. I am down doing a sonicap, gimpod with me doing the assembly portion.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

I wouldn't mind making a monetary donation as long as the pair can make it to Russman for the Lone Star Audio Fest in May 2013 so we can hear them along with a stock pair in a private listening session with fellow Polkies2-channel: Modwright KWI-200 Integrated, Dynaudio C1-II Signatures

As I understand it...
If I am shipped the speakers and sonicap/mills parts - I could easily do a point to point internal crossover in under a month in my spare time and have a studio do before and after recordings and ship them to anyone Mark designates... not a problem
If Gimpod is designing new boards we are to use, it would depend on the scope of that. Either way, once all parts in my possession, I am extremely fast and efficient.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
FTGV - I understand your concerns. This is just a side project not a rocket building exercise. Polk Audio pulled out all the stops for this new series, true and this is just a project from Club Polk. Since modifications are the standard practice, why not see what can be done?
Gimpod - I'll work on that and get back to you. Yes let's take this off-line but updates would be nice for the Polkies.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
I will be documenting anything I do + what others do if they like on this page... http://www.vr3mods.com/LSIM703CharityMod.html- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Damn, too late for my SDA SRS 2's, what an offer.

Thanks for the link VR3, I think we are all in for a treat and a great learning experience here.

Drgalexo,
If you are interested in having your SRS 2 modified, I will work with you- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Txcoastal mentioned throwing in some coinage to help make/keep this project going; I think there would be a lot of members who would be more than willing to help in that department to get/keep this project going. Just mention a need and a Paypal and that need will be fulfilled.
This is awesome on a lot of levels. The mere fact that Polk has a forum that allows a "Hey, we're going to take your gear apart and see if we can tweak it" thread says a lot. A whole lot, IMO. Of course, they aren't officially involved (legal disclaimer) but I can't see a lot of other gear sites allowing it. That's a lot of confidence by Polk (or hutzpah which is kind of like yiddish slapdwown, I think).
Doro's idea of KISS and straight part-for-part swap is a good one. My first thought was of an external Xover; I think they're cool. But a P4P swap using Tony's boards would allow a truer apples-to-apples comparison.
And thanks for that update link, Trey, and to all the other folks who are contributing. Again, awesome. For a bunch of meshugenehs. :cheesygrin:Sal Palooza -
Honestly from what I have seen of the LSiM crossovers...
There are some huge values in there, so if we keep it internal we will have to be creative with some nicer quality electrolytic caps or something will be external. I am just going from the quick mental notes of values I took down in my brain at Polkfest :-P.
I personally would like to see us do something along these lines -
Tweeter Network -
Clarity Cap ESA - maybe Mills MRC, Mundorf Mox
Woofer Network -
Clarity Cap SA and potentially solen/Clarity Cap PX for the larger values... - Mundorf Mox
Internal wiring Supra Rondo
I feel this would be an incredible outcome!
We just need to see how much space we have to work with- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Thanks VR3, I appreciate the offer. I may start with changing the SL 2000 tweeters with the RDO 194's.

100% game on funding. I believe that external as VR3 proposed will be the way to go, as bigblue said value for value would be nice to see. Like I said my only request is to make sure we get a listen. PM me when ready
Thanks Doro, Trey, and Tony for your knowledge and contributions
Cheers

I made an "official" thread for the LSiM mod in the Clubhouse.
At this point in time, after proper documentation and recording of break in stages - these will be auctioned off for the Githens Center. It just depends on the timing if these speakers will make it to a show or not...
We could make it part of the kick starter as a "Deluxe" donation that allows the speakers to be shipped to a persons house to listen to - the problem there is it getting to too many hands...
Will have to sit down and talk about it with Mark and Tony and see what they have in mind...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Definately game on deluxe donation to Githens Center, still would like to see them at Lone Star Audio Fest...I always get a private room not to conflict with Polks demo room as a gathering for fellow Polkies to listen to music and will do the same next year.
Last we gathered with Marvdai, DSkip, Assimilated, Halen, and of course the infamous Russman, would love to do it again.
But however the cards lie still in for the Githens Center...rock on2-channel: Modwright KWI-200 Integrated, Dynaudio C1-II Signatures

Yep... I think we can make this a huge donation in the end for the githens center...
Depending on how hardcore we can go I am figuring cost to not top 6-800 and I am thinking we could easily raise that + more to cover the parts and donate more... we can definitely do in home demos with deluxe donations and so forth...
When is Lone Star Audio fest?- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
