I am looking to modify someones speakers, preferably something like the LSi9 or new LSiM703

I will give whoever decides they want to do it a special price...

But the catch is I want you to send me your speakers.

I am going to take your speakers, stock, to a studio and they are going to record a complete song as they sit.

Once they are modified they will be taken back to the same studio to play the same song again, same settings...

If you are game, PM me!

This is only open to one person!

Thanks! :)

Yup, if I had cash for this I would be on it since I am heading down to TN for thanksgiving in a week and I could just pack the 15's with me and meet Trey at his house . But I have no cash for this since I need to pay for my M1.0t refurb sometime next week.

Not to get off topic, but the guy that said this
There exists, for everyone, a sentence - a series of words - that has the power to destroy you. Another sentence exists, another series of words, that could heal you. If you're lucky you will get the 2nd, but you can be certain of getting the 1st. -

Trey, when you are ready to play with some MMG's, I will ship them to you. I am thinking that due to the size of the mods needed for these speakers, an external crossover will need to be built.

I have a pair of prototype LSiM703, still in boxes that you can have Trey and do what you will. As long as you don't do that 1000ft threaded rod stuff you've done previously.

They are the first....moreso final run of prototypes that Al Ballard(KAB) gave me before he left the company so they are special to me. I've never opened them and they are at your discretion and control if you want to take it on.

The catch is that I'll provide inventory but if you want this project, it's on your dime. I'll cover everything but your vision.

The bonus is that I'll also make sure they get Anechoic chambered, Klippled and at Polk HQ with plots and charts for your viewing pleasure. You will see what your work does and how it changes the loudspeaker.

For better or worse, you'll have real time, real manufacturer data of which you can keep forever. There's no company that would do that for you but I'll ensure it happens.

    Deal?

    Trey,

Send me your addy, although I believe I have it and they are yours. Let me know when they are done and we'll compare notes. I seriously have never opened them....you are full owner and modder at the same time. I'm excited for the results.

Keep it simple, keep it reality based but they are your model, your baby.

Hello, Mark. Since this is a prototype and not a production model, I take it that the "before" measurements will be done prior to shipping to Trey? This way, there are no discrepancies as to whether the before measurements represent that of the prototype and not a current production model. BTW, this is a very generous offer and I'm sure many eyes will be watching the outcome of this one.

    Tom,

The measurements for this pair are done so that's not an issue. I'll work out the logistics on that and nail down this pair as they are enroute. It's a bit unneccesary since the production models have all of this done so that would be a better perspective. I just happen to have this set, its not rocket science.

I'm with you and would be interested to see what changes occur. Not every mod is awesome, not every mod done in the Polk world turns out to be positive since I've heard really bad work.

I'm just sending these to Trey, we'll work out the small detail and get Jeff @ Sonicap involved to see what can be done amongst the group. They will afterwards be raffled off for charity as I have no use for them but I'm sure someone does.

This is our chance to see if we can best or at least challenge Polk Audio Engineering in regards to what us Nerds have been doing for many years with SDA and Monitors.

Stay tuned, it should be at the very least worth talking about.

    Mark,

I was really hoping Trey wasn't going to take you up on this offer as I was thinking something along the same line. Sonicap, Mills and new boards but with the LSiM 703's going for $750 msrp each it's not something I can really afford to do when you add the cost of the parts.

If there is away I will. Maybe I should get a hold of Trey and see which way he's thinking of going, Most likely CliartyCap's & Mundorf.

If I could afford it I would just buy a set to mod my way and then send them to Polk to do a comparison of the two different approaches.

Let's keep thsi simple guys, not butting heads and theory involved. Upgrade to upgrade not a total redesign. That defeats the purpose.

What I want to have happen with the bookies is a hardcore but simple upgrade to show Polk that we have some know how....some balls, some yiddish slap down. DOn't over think it. just get into it. Does that work for you folks?

These are my speakers and I'd like Gimpod to work the boards, Trey work the components. If you need specifics, let me know I have complete data on this model. This result is for a greater good so suck it up and let me know what you need from me. I'm not throwing this out to you 2 dudes without some control or management. I trust you but let's keep this in perspective.

I really want this to be a statement piece from Club Polk to Polk Audio. It's time to give back and show that we are not just forum junkies.

Great offer but since it's just a simple equal parts value upgrade and not a crossover re-engineering the frequency response should not show any net change assuming correct replacement values. In fact any response changes are likely to be undesirable since Polk engineering has already put considerable effort into optimizing the on and off axis frequency responses.

On the other hand it would be interesting to see if the better parts quality results in improved sonics.
