Who's ready for Oktoberfest beers?

What's up fellow Beer drinkers?

I've been pounding Pumpkin Ales from everyone I can get my hands on. I'm now ready to move away from Pumpkin Ales(I do have a case of RiverHorse Imperial Pumpkin Ale put away for Thanksgiving) and move into Oktoberfest or Octoberfest Brews. Now Sam Adams Beers are one of my least favorite brews but they do make a nice Octoberfest brew. Its probably my least favorite of all the Octoberfest brews offered but I still really enjoy it and it's available on tap at most restaurants my family likes to go to. I do however drag my wife to places where they server craft beers which at least Uno's has many and I love it there.

So who's ready for the season change?

Then after this run is over O let me tell you , IT'S STOUT SEASON!!!! Which is by far the very best brews on the planet closely followed by Belgian Ales. I love fall to winter beers , there is no better time to drink.

Octoberfest Spaten Lager but only through the keg. Not bottle. If you get a joint that will charge you for it and give you the wrong thing whether knowingly or unknowingly? Oh, you'll know it when you are drinking it. Generally, the real thing only lasts for around 3-7 days if you are lucky. This is even though it is "supposed" to available from the 1st-10th.

Good news bad news from Sierra Nevada. If you had the chance to sample their Imperial Smoked Porter last year, you'll be bummed
to know it's not available this season. They will however be releasing a new brew, Narwhal Imperial Stout. Due out this month.

Last two trips to the pub the board has been full of Octoberfests... And I've been skipping them for the more interesting stuff they've had on tap. Had a Washington's Folly Cherry Mead by New Day brewery which was fantastic, and also a Johnny Chapman cider, also by New Day, which was also fantastic. Wondering what they'll have next time.

Octoberfests are my favorite style of beer. Spaten is great...so is Ayinger. as far as domestics go, I am a fan of Bells. Sam Adam's isn't one of my favorite Octoberfests...but it is their best beer!

I have to show my ignorance here. What exactly is a "pumpkin" ale? Is there any taste of pumpkin involved or is it simply a kind of ale that has nothing to do with that? In other words something purely "seasonal".

Pumpkin ale is a beer with Pumpkin and Pumpkin spices. It's a seasonal brew only out for a few shorts months. I think it only gets brews for a month or less. If you have not had one , I suggest going out and getting some. Riverhorse and Wyerbacher are my 2 personal favorites but most of them are good. Saranac and Americans Original is also very tasty.

There are many seasonal beers which are only offered during certain times of the year for a limited time. I wait all year for the RiverHorse Oatmeal Milk stouts which are only offered from late October to late November. I try and get a few cases so they last all winter long. Distributors run out pretty fast as it's a very very good brew. My personal favorite.

Octoberfest beers are only out in September and october and then go away. Stouts are out after that.

If you like Beer then it's time for you toget into craft brews. They are the very best offerings of all styles of beer. You'll never want to go back to generic style brews.

Im gonna pick up some Spatan Octoberfest this weekend. I'm also gonna make full rounds around the Octoberfest brew selections. Starting with all the originals then moving into the craft style brews.

This is the best time of the year if you enjoy seasonal craft beer.

Dan, Riverhorse isn't available in my area so a visit to my Daughter's (Lancaster area) is in order.
When a fellow beer imbiber shows such a rabid enthusiasm for particular brew, I gotta satisfy my curiosity.

Grabbed a few bombers today, Stone Imperial Russian Stout, Stone Smoked Porter, and Ommegang Art of Darkness.
Oh, and two growlers from Otto's Brewpub. Oktoberfest and a "farmhouse style" ale brewed with Pilsner malts, styrain aurora hops, and pure agave nectar. Touched with a small amount of Paradise seed that adds to the spicinessof the yeast.

Hard to take seriously a man commercial from Miller, the maker of beer that is most accurately described as "yellow." I'd sooner drink a fruited beer than a watered-down domestic corn or rice swill. Real men drink real beer.

Nice choice! Stone is a greet brewery and I sometimes forget how special they are since their beer is readily available around here. Without a doubt they are my all time favorite brewery. It doesn't get much better than Stone IPA.

I just had my first left Hand Milk Stout last night. I'm a huge Stout and Porter fan and that my friend is a very good Stout. If you enjoyed that , you should pick up some RiverHorse Oatmeal Milk Stout. It's by far my favorite Stout. On the sweeter side there are many excellent Stouts like Rouge Chocolate Stout and Double Chocolate Stout. Youngs make a nice Chocolate Stout. Saranac has a pretty special Vanilla Stout thats lighter then most Stouts. It's very tasty and refreshing especially on a cold winters day.

If you want to explore sweeter Stouts which are by far the best on the planet , I can form a REFERENCE list for you.

Well I'm not usually into porters and stouts (or as I call them, motor oil) but that Left Hand one was pretty good. Still not something I would drink on a regular basis, however. I've not met a chocolate stout I could stomach. I've had the Young's and the Rogue. Absolute worst however is a coffee stout, IMO. Dear lord. Like sucking on a used coffee filter.

Every now and then I'll try something I know I probably won't like if it sounds interesting enough--that's how I tried the Left Hand stuff. I suspect that a milk stout is the only kind I would like. Most days I prefer to stick to my Belgians, pale ales and lambics. I'm a hophead.
