Im wondering about which speakers Would fit me best since i have no nearby retailer that sells polk speakers. I listen to a 50/50 mix of music and movies and most likely wont have a sub to begin with. Would the a5 or a7 work best or even maybe the rti a3 bookshelfs?

Im using a pioneer 1021 k receiver

you really think so? Im most worried about my receiver powering it and the amount of space I have to work with, any comments towards that?

I'll admit that receiver is weak. With no sub running 2 channel i would still go with the 7's. Just my opinion. Save you from buyers remorse if you upgrade later.

I run RtiA5's and RtiA3's with Denon 891 and it powers them fine so with that pioneer the A5's would be a good choice. If your plan is to get a more Powerful AVR that has Preouts then go for the A9's. That would be quite a bit more coin, if you stay with that 1021 the A5's would be the best choice.

What center are you using? No sub, the 7's would be a good choice. Can you add an amp to your AVR?

if no sub and no plan on sub - A7. But with any sub A5 will be powered better and will sound better. Bigger is not always better.

rav is right, this receiver is a tad on the weak side for the A7's, they will sound good but not as good as they could with more power. i would think about what your future plans are. do you want to upgrade your receiver in the future? or do you want to add a sub? if you have no intentions in upgrading your receiver but plan on adding a sub then go with the A5's, but if you want to upgrade your receiver at some point get the A7's.

There are ton's of threads on this topic. The short story is a5 with sub, a7 without. My option is either way is a good choice.
I went with a5 and sub with no regrets.
