  • Anybody have an idea if I'd gain much/at all going from 2BTL to 3.1TL? Looking at those listed in IL above and doing math ($800 + at least half of that to upgrade them)--The biggest draw is that I find them sexy and their cabinets are quite a bit nicer than those of my 2BTL...

Opinions seem split on the 3.1TL--some here love them, some are unimpressed. Your thoughts?

I can see why some wouldn't be wowed by an original (unmodded) pair, like any SDA model, they won't sound as good as a fully restored set.

While I've never owned a pair of 2B's, (hope to own a pair one day) I have owned SRS 2's, 2.3's, 2.3 TL's, and some 1C's. I currently have a modded pair CRS+'s, as you know share the x-overs as the 2B's.

I currently have the 3.1 TL's in my set-up, and they are here to stay, for a while anyway. While they don't carry the weight in the lower regions as the larger models, they still do a lot right. Imaging is there strong point, precise, clean. Vocals are spooky good and 'In the room'.

The eight total mid-drivers on the 3.1's outperform my CRS+'s two, I'm sure you would appreciate the difference between 3.1's and your 2B's.

Like all the SDA models, they will have to brought up to date, but I can't recommend the 3.1's enough. They are a perfect fit for my room and I have strongly considered trying to acquire the ones you are looking at, just to "Have".

@agfrost, Just picked up mine about a month ago. Had one Tweeter blown so I opted to buy a new pair of RD0198-1's from Polk. The upgrades to the SL3000 instead of trying to replace the one SL3000.

Anyway I absolutely love them. Yes they don't have as much bass as my 1.2's but they are also not behemoth speakers either. It is amazing what sound you get from there size. Seven drivers per speaker vs. thirteen with the 1.2's.....
So do you get 1/2 the sound from 1/2 the drivers?? No you don't!! For me yes they are just a tad light on bass (but not anemic in anyway), but the top end just sings!!! Also because of their size you don't need a freaking huge room to get them sing like you do the big boys... I would highly recommend picking up a pair. Worst case if you feel the bass is lacking just pick up a decent subwoofer.

I like that positive outlook for the future Polk additions!

I started to collect EVERY speaker Polk made too :p ( Not the cheap ones, but I have them now anyway) but I ran into some bad doctor care and got sidetracked bad.

I think my desire has subsided...a small bit. Maybe not. :D

Saw an ad with these for sale. Unfortunately no pic without the grills. The pic of the rear shows serial number number 61XX. The interconnect socket is not identifiable as to pin/blade or blade/blade. Help from CRS experts is requested. Thanks.wk4jdvc5y2gn.jpg

    Blade/blade = cabinet

    Pin/blade = binding post cup.

Nothing at all. The pin blade can use the dreadnaught, blade/blade cannot. I also like the older style of cabinets better.
