What about a new Digital section in the forum?

The idea would be how to get the most out of your digital music. Topics might include DACs (digital to analog converters), FLACs (the Free Lossless Audio Codec), what's worth listening to on HD Tracks and Archive.org, Burr Brown chip sets, best digital coax cables, best optical cables, bit depth and sample rates.
What say you:question:

I suggested a "Networked Music" forum years ago---No go, mods didn't like the idea. Good Luck.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

Are you going to move threads over which could be in this new forum?

No offense, but I am guessing that jon_s has a little more pull around here than you. (http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?133330-Watch-out-for-the-new-guy-Jon-Schroeder) -

I feel like I could have the same conversation about digital media whether we had a new section or not.

I think we would just start fresh going forward. Folks could link to threads elsewhere to start off new conversations in the Digital Special Interestes section.
Ok fair enough.

We can put it right next to the new Headphone section that most people seem to prefer

I'm a yes on both of these ideas. I do a lot of listening in my Head rig and travel cans (probably more than my 2 channel rig sadly) and I used apple Tv and SBT and my lap top as sources so both would be nice.Main 2ch -

I vote yes. Lots of this stuff gets discussed already, and digital sources and implementation gets asked about all the time, usually in 2 channel audio. But I am all for things being better organized and easier to search, and this is a good way to do that. one of the things I like about this forum is that it is easier to search than some of the massive ones. More specific sub-forums contributes to that or it least it would seem.Living Room 2.2: Usher BE-718 "tiny dancers"; Dual DIY Dayton audio RSS210HF-4 Subs with Dayton SPA-250 amps; Arcam SA30; Musical Fidelity A308; Sony UBP-x1000es

Great idea, maybe it will keep the digital stuff out of the real music analog sections.>

I would be up for discussing some of those things in the OP in a Digital Section.
Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion."
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

So are receivers...basically. Ipods, Ipads, Nooks, phones, dacs, bdp, heck...there's more digital than analog gear.
So then, the question should be....how about an analog section ?HT SYSTEM-

or instead of calling it a digital section, name it a computer audio section b/c i think that's what the OP was more getting at.Main 2ch -

Some people would never discuss computer audio, however due to the fact they don't use computers or any sort of digital files to play their music. I think more people use some sort of DAC, digital cable, CD player, and SACD player however. Not saying that no one uses computer audio, but not everyone does (and more people do not, than do) and therefore the section should not be called a "computer audio" section.

Exactly. As long as it is inclusive of digital music. The issue is some people think their digital is not really digital.

It's not so much the need for this or that to have it's own section. It's more so organizing all the info available on this site so that it's easier to find. That would partially eliminate repeated questions and give newbies a more direct path to seek some answers on their own.
Lets face it, audio has grown in many different directions over the years.
Kinda surprised myself this task wasn't undertaken when re-doing the forum recently.HT SYSTEM-

I've pretty much completed my home theater system and now I would like to put together a two channel system that I can store all of my cd"s on some kind of NAS and be able to play these without having to drag out the jewel cases and have them laying around. A digital section with all of the info in one place would be an excellant idea. Thanks Jon_SHome Theater

The new Going Digital forum section is now a go! It's under Special Interests along with the new Headphones section. Thanks for participating in this poll.

I certainly don't think it was necessary to devote an entire forum to the topic as it is discussed but not quite as much as more traditional things. I would be nice if the forum moderators or the person who started the forum to compile and move all the past posts on this subject into that area. That would be helpful for those seeking the knowledge and who are too lazy to search or can't figure out the search patterns.
Just my .02c

Really,
A seperate headphone forum as well?
How about a "What did you have for breakfast?" forum too.

Nah Brock.... has to do with audio. Now, if we were to talk about the quality of the sound that bacon sizzle was making, could be a go. Maybe even how to get rid of that Snap, Crackle, and Pops in your Rice Crispies.HT SYSTEM-

Could be a Clubhouse sub-forum?

As we have been living in a digital rules world, I can see this being a value to add to the forum. I think to narrow down thread in that section would be better titled " Digital Music". Or "Digital music files". Something on those lines to lessen the broad topic anyone could misinturpret.Dan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time.
