what would you buy

just to let you nkow, cuz im sure its alot easier then typing airplay, my name is ryan
im hoping to get it for christmas. i like 1 expensive christmas present rather then a bunch of little ones. i think the 20-39 pci is a great choice, especially for the cash. it will have a great combo of extension and power (stole that from doc, sry).
why wouldnt your parents let you buy it? then aren't into the loud music thing?
my mom isnt but my dad is, he just doesnt like the music i listen to. atleast he doesnt like most of it. -
ryan and Vr3MxStyler2k3,
You guys and I think a like, I am hoping to get one for Christmas. One big gift is better than a bunch of little ones. Even though no one in my household is into good sounding music and movies my parents want me to be happy so they will most likely let me get the SVS. But they will only let me play the SVS loud when they aren't sleeping or in thier room (it is underneath mine):D .
So far I've got a couple SV Subwoofers in mind :
-SVS PB2-ISD
-PB1-ISD
-20-39PC-Plus
-20-39PCi
Doesn't really matter which one I get as long as I got one!Main System:

box subs are more expensive unless u are talking about the pb2....the pb2 will outgun dual cylinders but i think that one was too expensive for u wasnt it? definitely too expensive for me, thats why i chose the 20-39 pci. you room is alittle bigger then mine so that might not be as good a choice for u as it is for me.
i know how you feel about the parents though, my parents room is right above mine so its even worse. bass goes right up through our plaster walls and into their room lol -
Ryan
The PB2-PLUS is out of my price range but the PB2-ISD I can get, if I want to spend the money:( . Is it the PB2-ISD you said would out perform dual cylinder ( 2 PCi 20-39)?Main System:

i dont know about the pb2isd but i think the pb2 plus will....thats a question for dr. spec, mayb he will notice this and chime in later, or you can search the forum for other threads regarding those subwoofers and the answer you are looking for.

Mostly HT (not music so much) and in terms of loudness, I usually listen to DVD's at about 15 clicks under reference. Can the 20-39PC + handle it? With EASE!Mains: polkaudio RTi70's (bi-wired)

the level you calibrate your system at i think.....everyone calibrates it to the same level so if i say 15 clicks under referance you can go do that and know exactly how loud i had it because we calibrated our systems with SPL meters

I'll go with Velodyne CHT-12, very easy to find one and listen here in Canada. Future Shop in Canada sells it for $750 CDN. Sometimes Open Box items are also cheaper to find. You can always go and listen it.
Remember if you don't like it you can always return it for no fee! 100% refund!
If you're considering SVS, you may want to read this thread at www.hometheaterforum.com I would like to say find out how much total shipping cost would be and Canadian custom and border tax. Also in case if you return what would be the cost of sending it back. Fees could be more or less!
Too much TAX in Canada Man....!

Reference level is how loud it is in the Theater. Which, if you put that same volume in your small bedroom, living room, etc - is VERY loud. Which means, if you listen to it that loud alot - you wont be listening to anything.
Reference Level calibration I believe is all speakers calibrated to 80 or 85db? Correct me if I'm wrong.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

glemay,
Yet another informative post from Doc on reference level that I'll cut and paste. From Doc...
================
Dolby reference level is defined as 105 dB bass peaks from any surround channel, and 115 dB bass peaks from the LFE channel. If the surround speakers are set to small, the subwoofer is required to handle both low passed surround channel bass and the LFE channel. In the event of a simultaneous bass peak in both a surround channel and the LFE channel, the subwoofer would be required to deliver a 121 dB bass peak.
You should calibrate S&V to 85 dB all around at Master Volume 00. That way you can compare notes to everyone else who is calibrated to RL.
You will not be able to play all DVDs at Master Volume 00; it is far too loud in most cases. But whatever master volume you DO use, if you are calibrated to 85 dB on S&V, then I can set my own MV to the same level as yours and experience the same approximate SPL in my own HT room.
The Avia and S&V require 85 dB, and the other discs require 75 dB. It has to do with the level the test tones are mastered at on the disc.
And finally remember Reference Level is more defined by the SPL level during playback than it is the absolute volume setting. We calibrate to the same standard only to achieve parity and a benchmark, not so we can all arbitrarily set our master volumes to 00 and say with confidence we are playing back at reference level. There is no one standard for mastering the overall volume of DVDs - some are hot, some are just right, and some are cold.

My room is about 20 feet x 13 feet by 7 feet. As you all know I am looking at getting a SVS. Does anyone think a PB2-ISD would be overkill in my room? Would the PB1-ISD or PCi 20-39 be sufficent?

i have to agree with Sid the Kid. at least this one time anyway. I won't make a habit out of it though.
I think the 20-39PCi or + would work great in your room. they put out tremendous amounts of bass. Location is important too. It would be less expensive then the PB2 ISD.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

The PB2 series (ISD or Plus) will not outgun their dual cylinder counterparts if the cylinders are co-located.
The dual cylinders have more port, more power, and more internal volume.
If you split the cylinders up into different corners and lose the coupling effect, the advantage would probably swing back to the PB2.
Dual cylinders are considerably more $$ than the PB2, though. The PB2 remains an unparalleled performance value considering it comes pretty darn close to duals for a lot less $$."What we do in life echoes in eternity"

My room is 19x25x9 and I just recieved the pb2+ and got it running the size of my room is a little bigger then yours and I would not have taken anything less it so far fills the room very nicely. The sound so far without calibrating is first rate and has a sonic presence that has no equal as far as I'm coincerned. I sit 20ft away from the sub with this being your room you will probably be closer and I would probably say the pb2-isd will fit in nicely for you. Just my opion.
