Possible intrest in AL AV-047528 A-1 interface transformer group buy????

I don't want to put the cart before the horse, but I was wondering how many people might be intrested in a group order to meet the minimum order of 10 pieces. I realize that this is dependent on price and leadtime. The other issue we will have to figure out would be how to go about an escrow account, (possibly a paypal account) for funds that I could forward to AL and see if they could drop ship directly to those who participated in the group buy. As I posted in another thread, I am still waiting for the price which I assume is going to have a premium added to them since it would be a custom minimum order run compared to the ones that DK and toolfan purchased as left overs from a manufactures run. I also want to see about the lead time. I will be in touch first thing Monday morning with A-L. I realize This in tentative until I hear the response from AL but this is what I have so far.

    Polkmaster1 is interested in one.

I would be interested based on the final price. I don't have a need at the moment but if we get a reasonable price break I'd have for a future product.

I could be wrong, but I don't think there is going to be a price break but most likey a premium added to the price for running a minimum custom order run. I am just as intrested as well to see what price they will be coming up with. I would also like to see if she could forward a spec sheet that maybe Ray could help in reviewing.

I will guess that the final price would (most likely) be lower than the Plitron transformer, especially with the shipping and surcharge. They sold the "original" AV-047528 to Ray and Larry for $155. The group buy will likely be more than this price, but cheaper than the $323.00 from Plitron. Plus we get a better transformer. Thanks for doing this Dave. We definately appreciate it greatly. Looking forward to your response.

As soon I get in to work tomorrow, I will give AL and call and see if I can get a commitment from them. Here is the list which is tentative to price. I most likely will take (2) which will make the minimium order of 10. To answer Xoaphexox question, this is a DIY project, you will need to go back to DK's original post which is basically step by step instructions.

It would be interesting to look into potentially taking this a step further and ask AL if they feel that there would be any benefits to having a Faraday Shield installed in these transformers. Lower capacitance could mean further sound improvement.

Better PM Dave and see if he can ask about it when he calls A-L tomorrow.

A-L is going to try to get back to me by the end of the day with pricing for the AV-475848. Melonie appoligized for not getting back to me since they were short handed with the hoilday last week. I really shouldn't be speculating until we get pricing back, but the lead time for these units will be 12 weeks. I inquired about the make up of these units and she confirmed that they will be identical to the AV-047548 but will have to be manufacured with a different part number since the original ones where produced soley for a customer. I will be the first to tell you that I am electrially challanged, so here what I was told regarding the Faraday sheilding. First, a prototype would have to be produced which would have a lead time just to get inline with the designer. Then a proto type would have to be built with a lead time and a cost. Then the unit would have to get inline with production for the 12 week lead time. I don't know what the cost and lead time of the prototype would be or if anyone would want to wait that extra time. I am in a predicament where I just purchased a pair of monoblocks and will most likely purchase a temporary 800va while waiting the 12 weeks if this group buy happens. The way this would have to work is that I would need the amount in full deposited in my paypal account so that I could forward the funds to A-L. I requested if the units could be dropped shipped from AL to all who participated which did not seem like an issue, but she would confirm this so there is not double shipping. Just to let all know, payment may not be do in full to get started, but I am not about to take deposits from club members and have people bail out when the time comes to pay in full. I know I have not been a long time member here and if anyone feels more comfortable with having someone else take the lead with this, I totally understand. Once again, lets first see what the costs are, then we can go from there.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I got an email at 4:30 this afternoon from Melanie @ AL and she said there was a mistake on the quotation request on the AV 047548 and regrets that she would not have pricing for me today. I replied if I might have it tomorrow and have not heard back. I am just as intrested as everyone else since I just bought a pair of monoblocks.

No problem Dave. When I first started reading your reply above I thought you were going to say that AL said they could not produce the AV 047548 (or whatever the new part number will be). I'm sure they will get you the quote by tomorrow. What does Ray think about the Faraday shielding idea? He's the Electronics Engineer and would give the best facts/opinion about it. I have found A-L to be quick with responses in the past. Personally, I wouldn't have a problem with you being in the "lead"; if everyone else agrees. You have been the one incontact with A-L about the AV 047548, so if you continue it would make the most sense rather than switching people "midstream". Just let us know when Melonie gets back to you. Thanks again Dave.

??...Was there some discussion on making a shield for the regular AL 1000VA transformer? There is more that went into the AV-047548's sound performance than just the shield.

Just wanted to give everyone an update. Melanie said that being short handed with the holiday and vacations that she is hopefully going to provide me with a cost by Thursday. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the price will be reasonable and we can move forward. Once I get pricing, I would like to have a three day window for all who want to participate to deposit money in to the paypal account (in full with fee's) so that this does not drag on. As of now there are tentaviely around 16 units that have been requested.

To all interested, Melanie apologized again for being short handed during this week and not having there estimating department get back to her yet. She said she would try to turn up the heat a bit since she knows we all been waiting. I asked her if this build would have to go thru a proto type build and she confirmed that it would not have to since it they already have built the AV1000. She also said that every unit would go thru QC. to meet all of the specs of the AV-047548 or it would not be shipped out. We spoke about a flat rate postal box that would be drop shipped directly from AL to all that participate. I tried to ask if she had any idea about cost and she didn't want to commit to any price with the way the price of copper is. Just to let all know, it will not be as cheap as the price that Ray and Larry paid since these were large runs for a manufacture and that they were left over pcs. I don't want people to think that since we have 10 or 20 units that we will be getting a price break from the $155.00 that the other's paid. So keep the water boiling, clean sheets and hold onto the cigars till next week when we find out the price.
