There's a difference between it not working properly and ranting versus not knowing what he's doing and ranting is totally different.

+1. And it sounds like the latter (no offense intended). Differences in routers and their config interfaces / options + the user's knowledge of setting static IPs, using port fwding, the DMZ, etc. can possibly result in some difficulties. Given some details, we may be able to help.

I, for one, didn't find that I had to do anything special to get the SC-57 working w/ my LAN, media servers, or the 'net services. I did set a static IP, but more so that the iControlAV2 App wouldn't keep searching for the SC-57 when I'd start the app.

@kunta......I paid extra to buy this router from the Local Computer Shop. It was the one they told me to buy.

I'm not trashing Cisco/Linksys routers. If you have the knowledge to set them up right, they work great. The problem is that Linksys/Cisco's software for these routers... well, it blows. They're great if you flash them with DD-WRT, but ultimately, you shouldn't have to just to get it to work right. One of the biggest problems with modern routers is whether UPnP is properly implemented, and in my experience, Cisco routers almost never get UPnP right. On a router with working UPnP, you usually don't have to change much of anything for all traffic to get where it's supposed to. Again, this is why I like Netgear routers - because UPnP works 100% per the specs, you can assign IP addresses per device at the DHCP server itself instead of on each individual device, and I've never had one fail... unlike the 10+ Linksys/Cisco consumer-grade routers I've seen go out (and had burn up on me at home).

Not implying anything about your local computer shop... but sometimes, making a more expensive sale is more important to them than selling you the thing that will work best for you (and often, they don't have enough experience with these units in the field to know what does and doesn't work well, any more than your average Best Buy employee does). I am still of the opinion that the receiver itself is not the problem, and that swapping the router out with another brand would very likely alleviate all of the issues you're having.

But if you're not happy, you're not happy. If selling a $1,500 receiver is less stressful to you than buying a $50 router, then good luck with the sale.

The router is trying to up-sell me on their "home network magic" software. I can wire anything from the outhouse to the penthouse to the nuclear powerhouse, but my REAL computer/networking knowledge ends with....Do you have power? Correct cables? I put on the four ends connecting my modem to the new router...and then back to the old desktop in the other room and they are working perfectly.

I know there's a setting....or a checkbox....somewhere that if I changed it would make all of my problems go away. My goal this weekend was to get the new network up and running...and I succeeded to a point.

Right now I think I'm going to invite one of my control engineers from work over for a steak dinner and ask for his help.

Again....I apologize for my previous posts that were done out of anger.

    @ Mantis......want a deal on one...if they're so great.

What noone has mentioned so far is I took a top of the line Onkyo out of the box and in 30 minutes had it running like a top. Nothing in the Pioneer literature speaks of IP addresses, or the fact that they change. (manual page # please Mantis) This has been the biggest disappointment in my electronics life.....and if I mess with it again with similar results, I may just take a hammer to it.

Something in my mind was telling me that I shouldn't try to go for all of the cool looking bells and whistles. I wish I listened to that part of my mind a little more often,

BTW.....controls automation....currently re-wiring some machines made in 1967....adding lasers, some computers....funny thing is....when your doing a machine..there's usually a reason why something isn't working right...and a way to troubleshoot it.

all this 57 gives me is device not found....... right under the screen describing it...
Page 78 of the manual shows how to set up the network of this receiver. Ip address can change over HDCP , please go research this it might give you a better understanding of networks. If you can't have a Tech help you.

So true. My Dad still calls me to fix the TV. In fact, I got Team Viewer in his computer just os I can login and fix problems without having to walk him through windows.

+1 on this. It's very simple, and something minor the OP is overlooking. Just follow my suggestion, try basic HMG functions at the receiver first. This will tell you if the receiver can even reach the internet and is working properly on your network. Afterward we can move to step two, which would be having the Ipad or Iphone see the receiver over wireless.

The "Official" Pioneer Elite SC-55/SC-57 Owners Thread, they just might be able to help you out

I purchased an Onkyo TX-NR709 back in Febuary. Love the thing. It is a very complex home theater receiver. The computerized amateur radio rigs I am used to dealing with are much like modern AV receivers. The way I have always handled complex radios is to learn things one function at a time when I learn the ins-and-outs of one function I move on to the next. It take a little longer to learn things but when you get to the end you are the master of the radio.

Some people that work at computer shops will just sell you more expensive pieces of which you wouldn't have a need for.

Listen to the advice. People will get you back up running 100%.

I do not own a Pioneer ,but from most of the posts it does seem that the SC series is bad **** in a good way. With saying that I to had trouble w/ my zn 2 on my Yamaha rx-v665 and had to call support to iron it out. What it took was to slide the zone clip over then turn on and off multiple times until you see zn2 on then it worked fine. Knowing your not a moron I hope you just over looked this little proceedure otherwise that blows that your totally dianchanted w/ your avr.

I feel that I should at least give a status update....I think I have the zone 2 deal down.....and I think I have the ipad control down. I watched a few Netflix shows last night (the original netflix show with Silvio) and it sounded good. the I pad control....while different ...gives a nice play toy if nothing else. I think I said in a previous post that this is just a bunch of "shiny" amps....well...they are...I ran it around 4 hours last night at or above reference.....using different sources...and it stayed cool to the touch (my reason for switching to Pioneer). I think if I ever figure out how to work it...I'll be happy with it.

Still waiting on the Carvers, though. It'll be a new ballgame when they get back.

    love you guys
