I Think I Have The Best Dog In The World.

We got this Blue Heeler/Australian Shepherd mix last year as a puppy. My wife was at a horse sale and a lady came up to her and dumped this little girl in her lap. I was unhappy about a dog in the house and the responsibility of having another dog. Now I don't see how we did without her. I never imagined that a little dog could bless a family like she has. Never a dull moment now! She leaves a little hair around, which I don't like, but the smiles she puts on our faces makes up for it.

My dogs are one of the best things to ever happen to me besides my wife. The healing power they provide me by just being there when I am feeling bad is unsurpassed. They pick up on things even my wife isnt able to. Their unconditional love for me challenges me to try to be a better person.
I couldnt imagine life without either, despite how annoying both can be at times. She looks a lot like my Blue Heeler/Jack Russell mix. Smartest dog I've ever owned. She has been a wonderful addition to our family and brought us a lot of fun, laughter an joy.

Dogs rock.
I have a 13 yr old Golden Retriever and an 11yr old Yellow Lab. They have been wonderful pets and an important part of the family.I got static in my head

She's twelve now, and still learning new tricks, would you believe! Just has a racoon tail (I kid you not) but it doesn't show in this pic, unfortunately. She was within fifteen minutes from dying from a sudden attack of acute pancreatitis a few years ago (almost three, I think), for no apparent reason other than it happened. $5,000 later, she's alive and well and still a fantastic little doggie!

We named the little girl Sally. Everyone in the family was busting their brains for a name and I said Sally. They looked at me like they had been slapped and said yea. She looks like a Sally!
4 dogs! You are never without friends are you. What sort do you have?Way Cool Mans best Friend, we got 4 dogs a pretty big fenced in yard and plenty of paths in the woods to let them run, what did you name her?
They are so smart. This dog wet the floor 2 or 3 times and that is it. We kept taking her out every 30 minutes for weeks. She fetches. Rolls over. Comes every time you call her. Looks at you when you speak trying to decipher what you are saying. Really amazing. Your dog is beautiful. Lucky she lived through that sickness. It gets many dogs. I never thought I would spend money on them but hey, they are family.Kex wrote:She's twelve now, and still learning new tricks, would you believe! $5'000.00 ?? A mere pittance ! I had an ill-fated Dachshund-Chihuahua mix that cost approx. $17'000.00 just to get him to his fifth birthday ! If it would save one of my dog's lives, I'd sell off every piece of audio stuff I own in addition to lots of other non-essentials in my life if it ever became neccessay. Our old girl Chloe will be leaving us soon and it never seems to get any easier losing an old friend. She was born on 9/11/2001, what a birth date to have, huh.

Sorry I did a Debbie Downer on the thread !!! I love "Heelers" and J. Russels having been in and around the horse scene in MD through the years. I hope everyone will love and cherish their pups !!

Nearly lost our Springer Spaniel-Golden Retriever mix 2 weeks ago to a stray Pitbull. We were out for our nightly walk and from nowhere this vicious animal appeared. It proceeded to wrap its jaws around my dogs neck. I am not quite sure how he is still alive. He came out of the ordeal with several shallow puncture wounds to the neck and a broken collar. That collar may have saved his life.

Wow, you guys were lucky. Several breeds should only be available to those that can show that they're capable of training & controling them, Pits are definitley one such breed. -
Boston Terrier. 10 pounds of unconditional love. She takes constant harassment from my one year old son. Never so much as a growl. I could never envision not having a dog as part of my family.

My current best friend is 8 now. I cannot imagine life without the unconditional affection we receive from our 4 legged family members. They brighten up the foulest of situations. Glad to see there are so many dog lovers.

Our smaller one, and part heeler, Drama has been having a tough few days. He had a seizure Saturday night, and hasn't been acting the same since. I think its time we schedule a vet appt., but I'm not sure how much they can do for him. -
My first Golden had epilepsy and took phenobarbitol for years. It's hard to watch, but can be managed.Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Friend.

It is funny the nicknames we have for our pets. We call Sally: Sowsy, Sally Bears, Bear, Sal, and many other things but those are the common ones. She understands them all! Here's my "Monkey-face" boston/pug mix, Bella:SDA2BTL

Sometimes I call Bella "holstein" after the black & white holstein cows. We also call her "flash" for her amazing ability to move from point a to point b in a milli-second.
Here she is learning some tricks:

Our family (when I was younger and Beardsley was still alive) had many nicknames for him. Not sure exactly what kind of dog he was (other than the best) but a vet told my mom that he was part Schnauzer and part Alaskan Malamute. Anyway, some of the nicknames for him (real name Beardsley) were "The Moe"(He had a mohawk) and "Babalacious". Miss him a lot.

"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion."
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

We don't have any dogs (right now, we're caring for a couple of formerly stray cats that we trapped and had fixed), but I certainly can appreciate all that pets add to our lives. Great to hear the stories and see the pictures!

Rescued our silver lab about a year and a half ago. Such an amazing dog. His name is Argento, which means Silver in Italian:

We got Riley from the pound right after we moved into our new house in June of 2010. We call her Riley or Riley-Roo. Then we got Graycie in July 2011, and her nick-naming took off. Thats what we have him on. I'm afraid this last one may have affected his brain, as the vet warned us could happen. He isn't getting around very well, and is crying a lot. I wen't for a good chest rub on him (which he normally loves) and he yelped and jumped away. I don't know whats going on with him right now, ugh. -

Love my pups. Can't say the possums and squirrels do though!

Sorry for Drama's troubles, Cody. It's so difficult when they're not feeling well. Maggie developed a severe parasitic infection a month ago. Symptoms included a loss of energy, asocial, unable to eat without throwing up. occasional blood streaked emesis. Fortunately, her symptoms resolved after two treatments with panacur.

About 6 years ago, my sister decided to get an Old English Sheepdog puppy. Puppy is a relative term since even at 7 months old, that "puppy", Bogi, was at 60 lbs. Somehow, I ended up as the day-to-day caretaker of Bogi. At first, Bogi was quite a handful but now I don't think we can function without him. What happened was that my mom has come down with dementia, and somehow, Bogi has become her "security blanket". Bogi keeps her active, physically and mentally, during the day while I'm at work. It used to be Bogi would've separation anxiety when left alone, but now it's my mom who needs to have Bogi around. For now, she's doing great with Bogi by her side. I suppose I will eventually need to get someone to take care of my mom, and with Bogi being a herding dog, he will need to deal with a stranger in the house. While Bogi has a loud and deep bark, which he rarely does, he's a basically just a big "teddy bear".
