Out of all the talented and well mannered smart people it's embarrassing to think we are always down to two buffoons who behave in such an awful way in the public and private world. Why can't we find a double major economics professor and social work professor who have done well in the real world and also who have had some military experience.

I'm not sure you want an economics 'professor'. Look what they've done at the Federal Reserve.

I have absolutely no wish to be a politician, ever. But there will always be a position for one so someone else may want that position. I can change the world only by living my life as I do and making choices that hopefully will be the best of the choices I have at my disposal. I do vote. I vote for the best choice or the least likely to be a bad choice. Sometimes I vote for the party I prefer, but both parties have agendas I do not agree with.

Mamma, don't let your son grow up to be a President.

Here is a good example of real politics far removed from the presidency and world changing seat. It's also a good example of local politics and bad behavior although I like the guy mentioned in this article:

Commissioner flares up at mayor during meeting
    BY JOHN DeSANTIS Citizen Staff
    jdesantis@keysnews.com

At the start of Tuesday night's Key West City Commission meeting, the Rev. Sarah Fowler's invocation asked that the gathering be "marked by patience, careful listening and a deeper body of respect and affection."

That was until Mayor Craig Cates' call for a vote on one of the last agenda items led to an outburst from a freshman commissioner, whose increasing outspokenness has begun to try the patience of some colleagues.

Commissioner Tony Yaniz, after a terse exchange with Cates, gathered his belongings and appeared to be leaving the dais in a huff, when City Attorney Shawn Smith approached him and strongly suggested he stay. After throwing some of his papers in the trash can beneath his dais seat, Yaniz cooled.

Some fellow commissioners expressed disappointment at the display, but chalked it up to inexperience. Many have prided themselves on belonging to a public body that in recent years has presented a smooth public veneer even through strong disagreement on issues, and expressed hope that Tuesday's event is not a harbinger.

The item up for discussion was the new city manager-screening committee's request for $21,000 for a head-hunting firm, an amended version of which was eventually passed.

Yaniz shared the reticence expressed by Commissioners Teri Johnston and Jimmy Weekley, noting that he has disagreed with them on other things lately, and taking on a talk-show host demeanor when he joked, "I love you, Teri."

Yaniz asked about the payment process and whether the committee could pick and choose among four different services.

"Are you saying if we take that one (function) out that we can pick and choose, or if we take that one out we are taking the other four?" Yaniz asked. "Do we need to pay for all four of the other items?"

Cates interrupted. "We have a motion," he said.

"Mr. Mayor, this is the third time tonight you cut me off mid-speech," a visibly distressed Yaniz said.

"I am trying to get this clarified," Cates said.

"I know you are trying to get it clarified. I am trying to get my 2 cents' worth," Yaniz said.

"I'm the one who decides when someone speaks," Cates said.

A flustered Yaniz then tossed papers and threw some into a trash can.

"Well, Mr. Mayor, you let me know when I can speak," he said.

It was to date the most emotional display from a commissioner given to long and detailed statements. Last month, for example, there was feverish rancor between Yaniz and Weekley about plans for an assisted living project at the Truman Waterfront. But Tuesday's show of impatience was unprecedented, even for the outspoken Yaniz.

Commissioners said they don't see the outburst as a trend, and hope their assessment is correct.

Cates downplayed the matter, saying it was a simple question of his authority to regulate the dais and keep the commission on track. It was not an indication, he said, of personal issues between himself and Yaniz.

Yaniz, however, was still distressed Wednesday morning.

During the meeting, Commissioner Billy Wardlow had tried to inject some levity into the discussion by suggesting that the absence of Yaniz's trademark Rockstar energy drink might have been part of the cause, and suggesting that Yaniz no longer substitute it with Mountain Dew.

ha ha, I apologize for posts referring to politics! What a thread jack, sorry!

One thing that drives me nuts are the timing of commercials. If I'm watching a game I can't even switch to another game because it is almost always taking the same commercial break. But now I have music streaming and switch to that during the commercials.

Along those same lines, multiple games always start at the same time. So you get to halftime in one game, and you switch to another one... yup, halftime there too.

Or that commericals are like 50db's louder than the show you were watching so you have to turn it down during commercials and then back up when the show comes back on.

There is supposed to be legislation coming soon to fix that, and I look forward to that day.

I know that's the case, but I don't usually have the sound on, so it doesn't really affect me. Advertisers hate me -- I'm the one out there saying to my wife, "That looks like a weird commercial -- I wonder what they're saying??" And every now and then, my curiosity gets the better of me, and I'll turn the sound up when that commercial comes on. I'm usually disappointed -- they're not nearly as clever as I would like them to be.

Sometimes when watching TV with my wife a commercial blares on suddenly and she yells at me as if I'm the one who turned it up. She knows better of course but it is her knee jerk reaction. It's one thing to have it louder, it's another issue when my wife has to have such a quick reaction to turn it down. There needs to be a limit. I can use the avr to compensate but that lowers the quality of the programming too much.

You know what really grinds my gears?
Drivers: Those who turn at the street you're waiting to turn out of, after you needlessly wait 20 seconds for them to pass by. No turn signal means they're going straight correct?
Cell Phones: Those who share their trifling convos with "THE WORLD", those who cant put it down for a second (my daughter burned one up in the SHOWER!! and wore out the keypad of another.
Grocery Store: Those who park their carts in the middle of the damn aisle.
Oh, and lets not forget the guys who STILL insist on wearing their pants down around their asses. Didnt that play out in the '90s.
I know I'm just an old **** now but when i was a school kid i wouldn't leave home unless i was "cleaner than a brokedick dawg"

nice to see that you try and see where your employees are at at the start and finish.

as an employee its nice when a manager wants to take an interest in your life and makes you feel like they want to help you acheive the best even if its something very little. It can change the whole employee's outlook on this and really helps make them want to do better so they don't let the manager down. Little things go along ways.

not sayin a manager has to know everything about a person but at least say ok this is where you are today, where do you want to be in 5 years, a month, a week from now. Set a goal and work towards it, doesn't have to be big but makes you want to do better and not just oh crap I gotta work again today.

Not to mention that many of those same people (in addition to those that live their lives with buds in their ears 24/7) are unable to (and/or unwilling to) actually carry on a semi-intelligent conversation with another human face-to-face.

I don't get it at work, when people go out to their car and pull out the cell phone. What? You were sitting right next to your phone 2 minutes ago in the office. What could you possibly need to communicate to someone, that you can't wait 10 minutes to get home? Cell phones = ball & chain.

It's funny. My wife and I walk 2-3 miles through the neighborhood every single day. It always amazes us just how long it takes people to actually start backing out of their driveways once they've gotten into the car. Me, I get in and I go. These people - we'll see them get in the car, and their backup lights come on, so we wait on the sidewalk -- not sure if they've seen us walking by or not and don't want to get squashed, obviously. But then they sit there and fiddle with god-knows-what in their car, and then they look at their phone, and maybe dial a number, blah, blah blah. It can take them minutes to finally start backing out.

Very frustrating for those of us who are waiting on them. And no, they usually don't see us. :)

I guess the novelty of using a phone while in a car still hasn't worn off yet....geeks...LOL

Bev & I have had work "get togethers" at our house, and it's crazy how many people, in a "party" environment, have the headset on, yapping on the phone the whole time we're talking, drinking, socializing, listening to music, etc. Out of a group of 20 people, 1/2 of them will be actively gabbing on the phone for almost the entire party. Why even bother coming if you're gonna be glued to the cell? "So....what'ja do at Steve & Bev's?" "uhh...talked on my cell."

What's really sick is when it's someone you don't know, they're gabbing out in a public place, and you're talking to someone else and they have the gall to say, "SHHH!! Can't you see I'm on the phone!!!"
