Luckily where I live we rarely have power problems except for the infrequent car hit the pole killing the x-former.For me the only thing that i worry about is lightening in the summer and there'es not much you can do about a direct hit. For the stray voltages that might happen I'm using a Samson p-15 9outlet plugcenter. This is way beefier than a plug strip ,rack mountable, 14gu 3prong h/d power cord,a lighted rocker switch and 1 front outlet for convienence, resetable circuit breaker on the front and I believe gives 5000 and change in joules protection.

You might be missing the gist of the original poster's point.

The protection is nice, but I've never used a power conditioner on AV or stereo gear for the protection feature.

The benefit is in having clean, regulated power that improves picture quality and sound quality.

Thanks DK, that is one beautiful system. i really like the cropped pictures of the eye. It showed exactly what I saw in the store demo. A cleaner, sharper, deeper picture.

If you do have dirty crappy power it will help. If you have fairly clean, it can make an improvement still. Try it and see is a good thing to do.

However I think there are better than Monster for them however so just keep a look out.

Did he switch which TV and blu-ray was plugged into which strip? If the good picture followed the TV hooked up to the power conditioner, it would definitely be pretty convincing.
Although I use a PC myself, I'm still skeptical of in-store demos... even when using my own eyes. So, it's definitely worth asking some people I trust, even though there's already a ton of info out there. That is an interesting thought, though... switching the plugs. I'd love to find out what the results would have been. Something tells me that they set it up so it's not really possible to do so...

Does anyone wonder what high end electronic equipment has for filters for the 120 volt line?

Wouldn't you think these manufacturers would put a filter system in the original equipment if the improvemnets are dramatic?

    Just asking.

Filter design is not rock science.

I found an older review of the PF30 that relates to what I think you’re saying…

    http://www.techradar.com/reviews/audio-visual/hi-fi-and-audio/hi-fi-accessories/belkin-pureav-pf30-94279/review

But $125 is not a lot to add a cool new toy to your setup, if the Canadian pricing was not so out of whack I’d try one myself.

    I don't understand your logic.

No one is saying that the filters in electonic equipment power supplies are bad or inadequate. It is just that some people are interested in higher performance alternatives.

It is the same concept as switching out the tires on a brand new automobile. Do auto manufacturers know how to choose tires that meet safety and performance standards? Sure they do. Tire design is not rocket science. Yet, there is a brisk, multi-million dollar business in aftermarket tire sales for brand new cars.

If I understand you correctly, your postition is that power conditioners are a waste of money because the component's power supply is "good enough". Is my understanding correct?

Just as most people are not interested in high performance tires, most electronics consumers, even high end electronics consumers, are not interested in tweaking to the nth degree. Therefore, most manufacturers do not tweak their products to the nth degree.

    Figures 6-8 of this thread:

Tweaking Home Theater Part7: PS Audio PerfectWave P5 and P10 AC Regenerators

illustrate the performance benefit of using AC regenerators with my Pioneer Elite Kuro plasma television. The picture was spectacular with just plugging the unit into the wall. Viewing close-up images of individual pixels showed that they had more sharpness, definition and color range when plugged into a regenerator (which drastically reduced power line noise). There was even a noticeable difference between two AC regenerators with different performance levels.

But...but...but...don't some filters use rock science? Carbon granules are rocks and those rocks are used in water filters.

Electronic filters use resistors and resistors are made of carbon (rocks) and other ceramic metallic (rocks) material.

So yes, filter design does incorporate rock science.laughin.gif

Hey guys, I wasn't sure about the power conditioners either and felt that it was "snake oil". However, the power sequencing for my older amp really helped me sale the deal because I would forget to turn the amp off sometimes.

Now I have a Panamax M5300-PM and I can say I love it for the power sequencing most of all and secondly, it should be helping with the quality of my picture (which I can't truly say it did) and a little more insurance during a power surge.

I really didn't want to buy one due the fact the I normally saw Monster advertising these power conditioners at big box stores. Monster has been getting a bad reputation for overpriced HDMI cables and most people on the forums are now crying to stay away from Monster even when they had the supposedly coveted THX stamp of approval on their HDMI cables and other items.

Of course I learn all this after I already purchase hundreds of dollars in Monster HDMI cables from the “Monoprice anything is just as good or better” crowd.

Sometimes I don’t know what to think when it comes to the audio/video hobby but I just decided that I would buy the power conditioner but just not from Monster. Therefore, I’m a buy it and try it person. This is still limited by a budget.

I already have Monster HDMI cables and truth is, I just bought one with a chip in it from Best Buy and will most likely buy more but I’m limiting my purchase to them for anything else just in case. Secondly, the HDMI cable is wanted from Audioquest is even crazier with the price. Plus, I see Panamax has another power conditioner with a regulated power supply which is just above my current model and I want that one too.

    Upgrade-i-tis in a MOTHER!

I know that part, however our power outages happen at least 3-4 times a year and they always seem to come with flickering/surge before it goes out.
