Not sure how many folks are still following, but I was admitted to the hospital last night and will be here till at least Monday. They are thinking its a run of the mill infections and have a bunch of blood cultures running over the weekend. If those dont come back as expected then they have to start looking for the strange things that could be causing the fever.

So a fun weekend of full liquids here I come ..... Hopefully some fun threads on the forum will keep me entertained.

So this is going to be a rant, so if your not in the mood to read one, stop right the F$*K now.

Today I have learned what incompetence is. I asked my day nurse before she left at 7PM if there was a chance that I could get something to help me sleep. The antibiotics are causing lack of sleep. My past 2 roomates have both had respiratory problems which require treatments about every 3 hours that wake me up. Add to sets of nurses (one for me, one for my roomate at the time) on different schedules has led me to get about 4 hours of sleep since Thursday. Needless to say I am slowly become more and more easily annoyed and snapping at almost everyone around me. It happens when you cant F#?ing sleep.

My day nurse says the only thing on my list is Benadryl, well that isn?t going to do jack but I figured I will give it a try when the time comes to sleep. And if that doesnt do anything to have the night nurse call the doctor to get something added to my med list.

My night nurse comes in and decides she just wants to change my IV site, just because she thinks its been in too long. I ask her not to since it?s the first IV that hasn?t bothered me at all in a long time. Nope, its gonna happen anyway. The night nurse tries to find a vein, fails. The night nurse supervisor tries, 2 more fails. They call in another friggin nurse, he fails 4 times. They call in the ?specialist response team?, she fails another 3 times. She decides shes going to give up and let the line team come in tomorrow (after I tell her the chance is good I might leave tomorrow or the day after) to have a deep vein IV put in. Now I know a thing or two about those and they hurt like a dog in heat. I asked her to try again, maybe I dunno, a bit below the IV THAT WAS WORKING BEFORE THEY TOOK IT OUT. WHAT DO YOU KNOW IT WORKED!!!!! Maybe I should become a nurse.

Its now about 11:20PM. I get a new roommate and they are actually quite nice and quiet and respectful (unlike the other two I have had). I think OK maybe I can get some sleep. I ask for the Benadryl. I ask the nurse to ask the doctor if there is something else they can give me and she apparently forgets to.....

Its now about 1:00, she checks in on me and I tell her the Benadryl just isn?t cutting it. She nods like she understands and walks off. Another hour goes by and now its 2. I call the desk and ask her to call the DR to get me something to help me sleep because I am getting more and more annoyed with every minute of lack of sleep.

This time she does?? BUT HERES THE KICKER. ITS TOO LATE TO GIVE ME ANYTHING OR I WILL BE GROGGY WHEN THE DRS DO THEIR DAMN MORNING ROUNDS AT 6 AND WE CANT HAVE THAT??. BUT IF I STAY OVERNIGHT AGAIN MAYBE THEY CAN DO SOMETHING FOR ME.

So I informed the nurse I am going to be a total douchebag to just about everyone tomorrow, I am pissed as hell, and I really don?t care that ?The overnight dr and I feel just horrible we cant help?. Because I am not asking for you to be sorry, I am asking you TO F#CKING help .

    /end rant

Mods if you need to edit this post do it, I just don?t feel like holding back how I really feel at this particular moment.

LMAO.... Dan I feel your pain bro, and I don't mean to laugh:redface:. I have been there with the incompetence crap(remember my Mom in the hospital for two weeks)... I can imaging the nurses having to put up with your right now, and THAT is why I find myself laughing at the moment.

Anyway, after reading this I might just get some sleep myself. I will keep you and your bride in my prayers.

Yeah, they are avoiding me right now, and with due cause. If I say 3 words to them they will be along the lines of "GO TO HELL" if I decide to be nice.

And it doesnt help that staring back at me is the set of Maggie 1.6QR's I want either....

Looks like the mods did good editing your post. You let the hospital supervisors know about those idiot phlebotomists and they'll all be relieved of their duty since none of them can find a vein worth a damn. It happens all the time and there shouldn't be anyone working at all that can't do their job. But hey, they like the gosep so I guess it's okay to their bosses, as long as their happy ya know.

Still in our thoughts and prayers ender.

Dont know if understaffing is a factor, but i really do worry when i know someone is in the hospital with no family or loved one there 24/7.

Cannot understand the carelessness with peoples lives, health, and comfort when they are at their most vulnerable.

    Update for everyone.

The day after my rant I got the dr to allow me to take ambien at night. I had to stay one additional night and dropped two ambien and got about 6 hours of sleep.

I was consequentially released from the hospital yesterday evening around 5. I am on 1000mg of Cipro and 1750 mg of Amoxicillin a day, and 660 mg of Norco every 4-6 hours as needed for pain.

I have an appointment with my GI tomorrow since we have to discontinue my current Humira while I might have any kind of infection.

The only somewhat scary thing I was told was that the infectious disease team said and I quote "You need to aggressively treat your Crohn's". That makes me think things are a bit on the super horrible side with my Crohns but we will see when I see my GI. I have this feeling a large dosage taper of Prednisone is in my future.

I appreciate all the thoughts and prayers. I have been and kinda am in some ways still in a somewhat dark place. I am just tired of the ring around the rosey on this **** and ready to actually feel like a somewhat normal person. I am going to discuss with my GI if I need to consult a nutritionist about my dietary needs to see if there are things I need to stay away from and things I need to eat more of to keep myself headed in the right direction.

Big Dawg: My wife was around as often as possible and the "Hospitalist" was actually a very good advocate for me. He was a bit quirky but I liked him very much. He and I have a history as he was in charge of me my last 2 hospital visits one of which ended in my surgery.

Appreciate it, got second and third opinions. My main problem is this: my GI is one of the best in his field. He knows his stuf. His bedside manner is worse than a 2 year old toddler. Getting him to sit down and talk about how to handle things is hard. I have started to learn how to force him to do so.

I just dont want to switch Dr's to one with less skill and knowledge just due to bedside manner. I have a pretty good support system of other doctors my family is friends with and they all say to go to this particular doctor. My brother is currently going to see one of his partners shortly (he was just diagnosed over the summer).

I will probably approach a nutritionist on my own or one recommended by him as it seems whatever a "mechanical diet" is helped some with my problems in the hospital, but I also dont know if it was just that they finally got my drug doses correct. Either way I am pretty researched up on whats going on with me and try to stay current, its just been a very hard couple months and stress has played into this a bit as well.

Keep praying. I am going to try and just enjoy the music the next couple days and do nothing else.

I will be honest with you on this. A Dr that doesn't sit down and talk to you no matter how smart they are is not treating you. You need a sit down with him/her. That is the only way you will know what the endgame is.

Also, Do you keep a food journal? I did for a long time and found certain foods or spices that cause me the worst problems. This is really a must for CD patients. My current Dr suggested it and I will say it has helped a ton. Now I know what to avoid or what will help when I am having issues. Cause as you may know, no two CD patients are alike. What works for me may not work for you. It is as individual as a fingerprint.

    Things to try:
Skip milk and milk products for a week. Tough but a lot of CDers are intolerant and don't know.
Then try skipping bread products for a week. Gluten can also be an allergy of CDers.
Watch certain spices. Write down what is in something. I know for me Garlic is an enemy. Powdered it is fine but fresh is a killer. That is where the journal comes in handy. Don't rely on the meds to do the work. You will more than likely have to totally change the way you eat and look at food.

Finally, Prayers to you, CD is tough and without some type of remission it becomes a real bear on the soul. You will be fine. It will just take some time. Poetry is free of charge...
