Umm...I have taken seminars reading the articles of the confederation, the declaration of independence, the constitution and amendments, all taught by libertarian decentralists. So I think I might be familiar with what you refer to......

It's really a shame that one has to resort to taking special seminars on the foundations of our country. We were taught all of these in school prior to the 8th grade. Keep in mind this was before the new and improved educational system was implemented. Even in the 5th grade, recess retention required writing the Constitution on the blackboard.

Keep in mind that the Declaration is not law. The Constitution is a whole nother level.

Rooftop, you reach any further and your arm is gonna fall out of it's socket. Seriously. A piece of paper doesn't "grant" me anything, my free will and human spirit does. I'm just thankful that I was born in a country that made it easier to fullfill those needs.

And people say America has no culture of it's own...hogwash. Look around you baby, this pup was built with the sweat of our fathers.

Although I don't usually share personal facts on here, I will say that I am a Christian and (hush) a democrat. If you look closely at the sociological data, whereas most Americans will say that "yes, I believe in god or a higher power" far fewer believe in a God that actually intervenes in history, answers prayers, created the world, etc. Which means they believe in some civic religion version of God, not a personal god that actively guides history like I stated. And although Jefferson was clearly a deist who thought that God created the world and then let it mach down its inevitable course, he still believed that it was because humans were all created a certain way that we all have unalienable rights.

Last time I checked, you do not have to be a Christian (or theist or deist) to be an American citizen, and someone whose basic intuition is personal freedom would never think that. So back to the original point: if you don't have to believe in a personal or Christian God to be an American, where do our "unalienable rights" come from?

The education system is to large and diverse like alot gov. offices and have grown to large to govern from one place, and with the idiots from both sides taking hand outs in every level of gov. we the people are unable to get a fair shake and our own decisions. Privatizing several of our gov. controlled "Privileges" by local county, city, or state or even possibly some sort supervised management bid by corporation would be a good start "someone we can fire at will" when their job sucks including teachers and so on.

We are the USA but we are not acting like it....and definately are not living by our Constitution "WE the People" as originally written

Yeah. The buns were great. The crust was smooth and the butter just slid right off like it was on its own hill going down for a joy ride. They were so great I would just stare at them for a while before I buttered them up. Ahhh.

The Conservative government has called its controversial new electronic surveillance bill the Protecting Children from Internet Predators Act

I've said this before but, IMO, ANYTIME any politician utters the phrase, "But we have to protect the children !" you can be assured that you're about to get shafted.
Ditto for any phrase that involves the words, "Family Values".

Left/right/centrist/liberal/libertarian: doesn't matter, IMO. I think we all want the same thing and have the same goals. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
It is, IMO, apparently not what THEY want at this point in history, so THEY employ the divide-and-conquer weapon.
Who are THEY ? Good question.

The founding fathers were free thinkers.
They believed in God. But they weren't real fans of religion. Freemasons were pretty common
in the mix. A quick read of Thomas Paine's "The age of reason" is a prime example.
They threw out royalty, the noble class, and believed with opportunity and education that
men could reach any goal they set for themselves. The whole idea was to to be free to
reach those goasl without restriction nor permission of others or government.
"The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson

I saw this crap coming midway through GWB's first term, and so did a lot of others. The problem is that most people have become sheeple and are fascinated by flashy speeches and slogans. They have seen so many broken promises that a few more really don't matter, and our current population cares more about voting for their favorites on American Idol than they do investigating candidates and making informed choices. In this vacuum, the media is more than willing to tell them what to do, and the sheeple just go along.

Hopefully the sheeple will become "We the People" once again, before it's too late.

That's because our schools are so busy telling our children what their parents can and can't do "legally" to them in the form of discipline, that our constitution has out-lived it's usefulness, that our freedoms are simply "priviledges", and that showing pride in America is arrogant and may offend someone else---that they don't learn the basics.

Anyone who doesn't believe the progressive movement is going on (and has been for over 30 years) in our TAX funded public schools is either seriously naive, or a liar.

My daughter-in-law in Oregon was told the other day by the child care center, that they don't put children in "time-out" anymore for bad behavior; "because it makes them feel isolated, and destroys their self-esteem." AND I QUOTE. So, by all means junior--be a brat--we'll just learn to live adapt to your needs. ****.

Precisely. Everything is a crime these days. Your kid gets in a scuffle at school, they call the police, not the parent. If I were a kid during these times, my **** would be in jail. Nothing is handled at the lowest level anymore; no common sense injected into situations, no case-by-case basis anymore. God help your kid if he plays "tag" on the blacktop---that's sexual harassment TODAY! When I was in first grade, I kissed Diane Kemp on the playground (true story); today I'd be a "sexual predator." This how twisted and stupid our society has become.

AND WE ALLOW IT TO HAPPEN.
