End Caps Done!

Okay, I am nearly done putting the final finishes on the curly maple end caps. (I will be putting them up on the classifieds shortly). I am going to go into a little production run right now. I could not find the correct hangar bolts at Ace hardware, so I would just drill the holes if the buyer wanted them and they can use their existing ones. I have 2.3TL's and wondered if anyone knew if all the hangar bolts and tee-nuts are spaced the same for other Polks, such as the 1.2's, 2.3's, TL series, etc?

I would prefer to drill my own. Any idea on what cost would be? Also will you be able to do the side strips as well for the 1.2tl's?
The 1.2's and 1.2tl's are the same, I'm not sure about the 2.3/2.3tl's..Polk Audio SDA 2.3tl Fully Hot Rodded. 😎

I am still deciding what to charge. It takes about 10 bd. ft. of this maple for 2 speakers. I just placed an end cap on my 2.3t's to see what it will look like and I have to say it looks awesome . I guess it helps that I am not a huge fan of oak. I can do the sides, but I would need exact measurements and pics for those.Jeff

"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion."
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

The term "tiger" is used loosely. Some people call it curly, fiddleback, tiger etc. Some of the stripes/figure is narrow, close together. I thought about the thick stock for caps, but personally, I think it might be a bit much.Jeff

Have you thought about African Bubinga wood?

Yes, I might have a small amount. Mighty rare in these parts. I mostly have maple, cherry and walnut. Very limited on exotics. Teak might be nice too.Jeff

Cocobolo would look nice, but it is crazy expensive just like the rest of the exotics.:eek:Testing

I might be interested in end caps and side panels for srs2s.

Dymonwood may be a cheaper alternative Sal (I'm not really sure).
Not sure of the dimensions of the end caps, but I know they sell dymonwood in larger sheets.
Some of it is horribly ugly, but I think the Cocobolo looks really good.

I saw the attachment to this thread and was sadly disappointed in the Feet vs. Pics of these awesome caps. !!
Post some cap pics!Too much **** to list.... -
PM box cleared. I will have some pics shortly.....I promise .Jeff
-
Not the best pics as my house is dark and I have to give the caps another few coats of oil. I will attempt some better pics. These do not even show the figure properly and how 3-d looking it really is.
Jeff -
I'm sold!!!!! I will send you the size of the side strips tonight....
Let me know cost and Payment method when all is figured out.Polk Audio SDA 2.3tl Fully Hot Rodded. 😎

Nice work Musky1963. Yep, 3d figure is hard to capture with a camera. An outdoor photo in sunlight seems to be one of the better ways to catch it but you still have to futz around with angles. Did you dye it to try and match the original color of the oak caps, or to match furniture in your room? This reminds me, I've wanted to makes some new end caps as well and never got around to it. I'd probably veneer it though, and surround the veneer field with solid trim and possibly a thin accent strip in between. I never really decided on what woods to use, but was down to a few final candidates. I might have to try and revive that project in the spare time that I seldom have these days....

Birdseye is best.

Birdseye is best.
X2
I've always loved it foremost too but the the Curly/Tiger is 2nd only by a smidgen in my judgement. I guess I favor either one equally as much.
But man those top caps look gorgeous in Tiger/Curly!!
Probably the better choice of wood in this case for sure.
Great job! Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
Thanks guys! I have used birdeye and it is nice, but only for certain pieces. These caps are only 1" thick at the edge and birdseye wouldn't look great.......kind of boring maybe? Now on a dresser or something with alot of visible facing you, it looks good if it has heavily populated eyes that is.Jeff

Very interested in end-caps (and side panels) for SRS2s. Those are spectacular!
