    ^^^ Baby spinach box?? haha!!

    Got mine today as well.
It's dark out by the time I get home from work so won't be able to install it till the weekend but I did took it apart to see guts and once and for all get a solid answer if PPI and Polk's amps are the same. Yes my friends, they are. Absolutely damn identical amps in different casings with badges of different brands on them.

Here's a pic of PPI taken by Hurricane Bob:

    (see source thread http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?128481-Amp-Advice-for-MM&highlight=guts )

And here's pics of my Polk D4000.4. I have a lot more if anyone wants to see them but I'm sure this gets to the point:

I feel like I got screwed out of $60 now for getting this instead of the PPI.

I might end up returning it.

Unless you want to give me $60?

Not only that, but I'd like to have matching amps. I'm guessing the 1000.1s are the same too which i plan on getting eventually, as well as the 2000.2. That $60 turns into quite a bit more.

Very disappointed in Polk. They're not what they used to be. I guess neither is PPI, but I knew that.

Just when I decided to just have unmatching amps and do the rest with PPI, I hooked it up this weekend and what do you know...straight into protect.

Rethinking going with anything DEI now.

That sucks to hear dude. I'm not having much luck with their stuff either. Bought the PA330 and its got a turn off pop too so Ill keep it as a backup and I just stuck the Crossfire back in there. It pops too buts its more powerful. Thats 3 out of 4 PA amps that have had noise issues. Looks like I've got another $800 or so to spend in the very near future. JL Audio has a very cool 6 channel I'd like to have and not take up much space.

I hate seeing what DEI is doing to my beloved Polk brand.

not much more to say than that.

I'm going to hold on to my SR's until they fall apart as a reminder of how good Polk once was. But I was never a fan when they started making amps in the first place.

I hooked up my D4000.4 a few days ago and honestly it doesn't stand a chance in sound quality world.
I'll write a detailed review on it later on but (spoiler alert) to make it straight to the point right now my 500.4 is going back in my car even considering how huge it is and amount of space it takes up. Full range class D amps aren't "there" yet when it comes to SQ.

LOL! Tell that to Scott Selvidge who won best of show at finals a few years back with Alpine class D's or the people winning now with those JL Audio class D's or all the titles Jeff Smith won with those Xtant mono class D's. Class D's are definitely "there" for sound quality. I'd run one in a heartbeat.

Maybe so but def not D4000.4, at least not the one I got lol.
I've tried to like it, gave it all the processing I have available (which isn't much but def more then most "regular" people have) - it's just doesn't compare. Everything just feels dull, details and "colors" are nowhere to be found, my SRs sound more like some entry level speakers.
I installed PA500.4 back an hour ago and what a huge difference, pure enjoyment, especially after "watching black'n'white tube TV instead of modern HD LED" if you lknow what I mean.
Now I'm sure someone will say "watts are watts" and "amps simply amplify sound, they do not effect/change it" and maybe so but unfortunatly defiantly not the case with my D4000.4

Don't mean to. Ya gotta think that me and Cody have been around this joint and rabid Polk fans for about a decade or more and were around for the great MM6 and those cool **** Carbon series amps and the original DB's. And I don't think we're saying their current stuff is crap as the MM's are excellent speakers and subs but the axing of my beloved SR's and now the new amps that don't seem to be up to snuff makes us a little queasy.

I think we're just calling them like we see 'em and I hope Polk gets back to the quality they're capable of as evidenced by their home speakers and MM's and make some quality amps instead of rebadged PPI's. I think that does more good than just blind fanboy posts about everything being super wonderful.

Fair enough. and believe me, I'm usually at the forefront of the whole "they don't make 'em like they used to" movement. I shave with a straight razor, drive stick, and my guitar amps are all tube. My house amp is a quad 303 from 1953. It sounds freakin unbelievable.

I do hate when companies axe their top product line, and that seems to be happening more and more these days. I agree with this amp not being incredibly musical, but it is pretty transparent and accurate sounding. honestly it's boggling to me that so much clean power can come in such a tiny footprint.

anyway right now I'm just excited for my SR sub to get here. Other than that really loving the setup right now.

Just my thoughts on the subject.

You definitely should be loving your setup. Those MM's are great speakers and youre going to really love that SR when it gets there. Again, dont take a couple old timers like me and Cody pining for the glory days because their current line of amps arent as good as we think they should be, as us saying Polk is garbage. That couldnt be further from the truth. 98% of their gear is still as good or better than anything comparable on the market.

LOL, sorry man, i didn't know anyone was looking for it.
Now that i look at it PPI's amp costs even less now - $199.95 shipped !!!

    http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_38338_Precision-Power-P900.4.html

Snoozed and lost. Back ordered and $30 more expensive :(

Guess I'll be waiting longer. Got my money back for the polk amp, minus the shipping i paid to have them ship it here and the shipping i paid to send it back. :(

Got an email that sonic had the ppi amps back in stock. They have one left at $230. Went to onlinecarstereo.com. They have it (doesnt say how many) for $209. Did a google search for a coupon code and came across "OCSSAVE15" for $15 off. Tried it and it works. So I ordered the PPI P900.4 for $194 and free shipping. Sometimes it pays (or rather saves) to wait :)

Pretty solid price. We just bought the wife a new Civic since her 11 year old Mazda was circling the drain and now we've got a $200 a month expense that we didnt really need. Thatll just about do it for my new gear budget so my beloved new Accord will have to make due with my old stuff. But considering thats Polk SR6500's, PA1200.1, PA500.4 and a pair of MM12's, Im not feeling too sorry for myself. :D

Besides, Im skeered of OCS. Id buy from Sonic Electronix though. Theyve gone a long way to making themselves a pretty reputable and trustworthy online retailer.

My limited experiences with OCS have been extremely positive. A while back (LONG while back) I bought a set of speakers from them. They blew. (me? blow speakers...HA) Anyway, it has been about 9 months into the 12 month warranty and they no longer stocked the speakers. So they gave me full credit for my purchase towards another purchase.

Got the amp in today. Had forgot it was coming today...got all excited when I saw the box...haha. I can't tell you the last time I've ordered a piece of car audio equipment...Probably when I got my Pioneer Z110 hu.

Casing of the amp is extremely solid. Impressed with the non-cheap feel. Although, last time I ordered the polk and it was DOA. No idea when I'll be able to put this in :( Probably Christmas break. Looking forward to having a front stage again though!
