I have a pair of SDA SRS 1.2 speakers. I just dont have the room for them currently and dont want to let them go. I am going to store them in my basement and was wondering if they can be stored lying flat on their backs? I have a ledge that they will fit on, I just wanted to make sure that lying them flat on their backs wouldn't cause any issues.

If you live anywhere near SoCal, you are welcome to store them at my place...

On their backs wont hurt them as that is the prefered method of shipping them, but I am non certain if there would be any long term effects.

That's how it's recommended they be transported, on their backs. I would think storing them that way would be ideal. Just don't let any moisture contact them and hopefully it's not a musky basement that can cause mold over the long term.

that will be your biggest concern. Don't need any rust or corrosion or worse yet the dreaded dry rot.

I live in utah. Its extremely dry here most of the year. Its a finished basement. I dont think there is any issue with moisture. Are there any preventative measures I should take to make sure they are protected further? I love the speakers. My girlfriend has been complaining that they take up too much space. She has been trying to get me to sell them, but I just cant let them go. Ive got a whole room full of speakers, so I am going to switch it up for a while.

As long as the humidity level in the finished basement is about normal, I don't see any issues. Maybe wrap them in plastic in case something might get spilled on them or remote chance of a pipe/water heater breaking, etc.

Yea I'd love it when they use that excuse. you'll move these two monoliths out and next thing you know she'll have a whole bunch of foo foo stuff to take their place. Just remind her that other arrangements can be switched up also....

    good luck

Wait a sec... you are moving your speakers into storage because of a girlfriend? I would tell her you will move them when she becomes your wife and not until then. I would also tell her that any wedding plans would be contingent upon how well she got along with the twins. Just make sure to give the speakers names, so when she asks "what twins" you can tell her the names and point to the big girls in your listening room where they belong.

(p.s. someone here no doublt will point out that I had to give mine up, but I would remind them that I did so for my WIFE, not girlfriend.)

+1 Decisions, Decisions. Girlfriend or SDA SRS 1.2's, SDA SRS 1.2's or Girlfriend. I say SDA's all day any day girlfriends are a dime a dozen SDA SRS 1.2's aren't.

And if I remember correctly didn't you move to a smaller place where space was an issue.

Yet he still bought a pair of Magenapan 20.1's lol. They might be only 2 inches deep, but they are every bit as big as the SDA's and need more breathing room to live lol......

I am still stuck in a crappy little apartment. I had a house back then, and moved down to the 2.3TL's. Here in the PRK, I did not have the space to run the SDA's. My Maggie MG20's however have met wife approval for use when we get a house. They are in semi-storage until then.
