Whats up?
I'm curious , have any of you had any glitches with any of the 5 series or current Elite receivers? Especially the SC55 and SC57? It's come to my attention and sadly to say we have had a few problems with HDMI with this current models. What I have found in general so far is a glitchy 1 to 2 times in an hour video will cut out but audio remains. This signal is being sent VIA HDMI to the receiver and HDMI out to the display.
The other common issue is HDMI going completely out or turning the entire picture red.

If anyone is having any of these issues or anything else with the new Elite line, I'm taking this to Pioneer myself and seeing what the deal is. If there is anything else it will fuel my cause. In history or at least my professional and non professional dealing with Pioneer , they have been rock solid and more so then any other company I have had the pleasure to work with or own personally. It's disturbing to find the flagship models tank and embarrass me. So any help will be welcomed.

I'm gonna find out what the deal is.

I don't have this years new model, but I can absolutely tell you that I do not have these issues with my 37. Not sure if that helps or not. At least it eliminates something from the equation

Thanks for the info , actually the 3 series is when things started to go wrong for Pioneer elite. The Blu ray players we also had some issues where in the past we had none. Pioneer Elite is one of my personal favorite brands , since they stopped making TV's , it seems they have been slipping.

Don't forget the VSX-21/23's with the intermittent remote issue. Sometimes (rarely) the amp will freeze up and to resume control must be unplugged to clear any issues up.

I have a VSX-23 Elite and I've only had each of these issues happen once each. I did my research before buying and knew the probability was low. And yes that Kuro link sucks! Anyone not using a Pioneer TV should disable that...

No issues here and I was one of the first owners with the Elite IceAmps. Did you see any reports over at AVS, since there are tons of owners there. Most of us here own the prior released models.

I have the vsx-21 and never had any of the issues you listed. The issue I have is that it doesn't want to go into standby mode, which allows the tv signal to pass thru without having the speakers on. So it's either on/off, not a big deal really but knock on wood no other issues. When the wife watches E-news, it hurts my brain, in surround sound it surely would be the death of me.

The VSX-21/23's do NOT have HDMI pass through. This was introduced on the next series (VSX-31/32, SC-3X models).

For me Pioneer has been alot like BMW, great performance but not the best reliability. I've had more issues with this SC-25 than I've had with any other receiver, most minor issues but have had it not want to power back up after a power outage. This is also the most expensive receiver I've owned as well, so odd that's it's also the most problematic. Again, kinda like BMW or Mercedez.

I put up with all the issues though because the sound is superb and is the best sound I've ever heard out of a receiver.

So for me Pioneer has been anything BUT rock solid, but I'm fine with that and choose to trade off some reliability for the great sonics.

I have the SC 57. No glitches or HDMI issues here. Aside from a slight lag in the picture being directed to the TV from the receiver upon initial start up (say in DVR mode), once the receiver is up and running, I have had no cut outs.

Have not had that issue yet either...knock on wood (my head). A great feature on the VSX-23, and probably others, is you can, of course, hook up an external amp and turn off the speakers. The signal still goes to the amp for 2 ch music w/o hearing any other speakers. Kinda like having two systems in one!

I am working on getting an efficient, great sounding set-up for HT, to powered by the Elite while using the Elite as a pre for a nice 2 ch setup as well.

Are you using a Surge of any kind? What about battery backup? We rarely ever lose power here and I have mine on a APC Battery backup J15 .

Please explain this lag your having. One of our installers had the SC-57 3 of them to be exact and his issues was the picture would go out for about 1 second and the audio stayed on , this happened about 1 or twice an hour.

These issues started with the 3 and 5 series of Elite models. the 2 and 0 models seem problem free. I have Installed so many of them over the years with no issues , then the 3 series hit and the HDMI issues started , the 5 series seem to be the worse.

OK - keep in mind that this only happens on system power up. ie. TV is off, receiver is off, cable box is usually on.

When I turn on the receiver, the cable audio comes on. When I turn the TV on, the audio cuts out while the receiver is connecting to the TV. This process seems to take 10 - 15 secs before both audio & video are up and running.

The same thing happens when I switch to another source - say the PS3. Obviously, this never happened w/ the Denon - so I figured it's Pioneer quirk.

Once everything stabilizes, there hasn't been any issue.

Here are 2 quick videos ... 1 where I turn everything on more less 1 after the other. 2nd one I let the audio come on and then turn the tv on. It's just a bit slower to connect via hdmi than other receivers I've had..

What you are experiencing is completely normal for HDMI sync. Basically you need a universal remote with macro programing so you can turn on the TV, Then receiver , wait 3 seconds then tell the receiver to go to the input you wish to use(CABLE , BLU RAY , GAME SYSTEM ETC) . All HDMI receiver and equipment work exactly like yours.

    Hello all,
this is my first post and from reading the other posts and looking around on here there are some pretty cool people on here. my question is (and mantis i sent you a email about this as well) i was searching for a fix to this problem and saw it was on here. i got my sc-55 yesterday and i watched two movie with it and once in both movies right around a hour in each my video dropped out and then popped back on a second or two later. has anyone else had this,is it fixable?? there is a service center in Lancaster(about 50 miles from my house) but i don't want to run there and drop it off and have to run back down again if it isn't fixable and just has to get sent back where i bought it for a exchange anyway..i could just save the running down there step. thank you so much and any information on this will be greatly appreciated.

I find all this talk about bad quality shocking due to the fact that I?m running a Pioneer Elite VSX-23 and a SC-35 without any drop out in picture or sound since I have had either one of them. The only problem I had is that my SC-35 decided not to like one of my HDMI cables. I think the cable was damaged during a robbery that happened at my old apartment. My TV was hastily stolen.

Monster replaced the cable for free with a HDMI cable that is considered better than the one I sent it. After that, no problems at all. I have had a Pioneer BDP-330, PS3, and now a Samsung D6700 for Blu-ray playback. For better or for worst, I have all Monster HDMI cables with each one of these players with great results.

I think Onkyo and Integra have more HDMI problems as well as overheating. Nevertheless, I hope everything turn out good for you Mantis.

Hi Brian and all. This particular forum thread started with this problem on a much older unit. Brian, you had it as we'll and I have been having it on my SC-27 for the last six months - it's gotten to the point where the video does not come back for more than minutes. Has anyone had this problem and either solved it or had it fixed? If repaired, what was the bill and turn around time?

    Thanks,

I want to say it's resolution issues , what kind of HDMI cable is going from the player to the receiver?

I've got the SC-35 and am running it through a 50ft hdmi to my projector. I also had to install a booster to get the signal to work, and have gone through 3 different brands of hdmi cables with the same results. It will pass 1080p 60 from only my Xbox natively, but will NOT upconvert cable or any source to 1080p 60 they have to be native. My bluray player will not pass a signal unless I have it locked in 1080p 24hz output from the avr, the 1080p 60 menu's and netflix won't pass a signal unless its fixed on 24fps. Not the end of the world and may not be the receiver at all, just thought i'd chime in in case it helps. When I try the same cable on my Aquos it passes any signal without issue, no booster required.
