A true Audiophile is a Listener first and foremost. I consider myself that because I crave opportunities to get lost in the music. I know that is most likely to happen when hearing tunes played thru truly quality gear. That being said, like so many have pointed out, one of the biggest joys in audio hearing music thru a system that is well-matching and properly set up at lower budget than one would expect.

I know many in here prescribe to the view of diminishing returns. There is much truth in that philosophy especially as the costs rise dramatically as the last percents of detail are reached. But in those last uber notches exists sonic detail that brings chills to the listener. In the end ones own nirvana point is all that matters.

Please someone save me as I am on the path to audiophileism. I believe you can be an audiophile if you are constantly tweaking your system for good sound. Much of the DYIers on here I consider in that crowd. Maybe not all of us can prescribe to the ba-zillion $ equipment but we buy what we can in the form of test gear, components, and well recorded music to try and get the best out of the gear we have. And we are not stopping until we get the sound that pleases us me preciousssss............
