Monitor 7c upgrades

Hey all,
purchased some m 7c's locally and ordered rdo 194's and placed an order to sonic craft. Parts include: 2-2.2 ohm mills. 2-12 mf and 4-17mf sonic caps
Pulled the polly's and replaced with jumpers. Original high pass had 2 ohm resistor and polly switch. I jumped the polly and instead of adding a .5 ohm, I increased the 2 ohm to a 2.2 ohm. The seller had made an attempt to upgrade the speakers before I purchased them. However, they were too dull to my liking and lacked sparkle and detail. It will take 48 hrs to burn in the tweeters and a total of at least 100 hrs to burn in xo. I will let you all know. I will leave them on for one week.
Thanks for reading,

Matt:mrgreen:

    Looks great Matt-

I'm about ready to do my 7's. Have Solens for the low pass and will order either SonicCaps or Clarity Caps for the tweets as well as Mills resistors. Mine still have the fuse on back so I'll prob leave that alone. I have a set of rings from Larry and need to build a decent set of stands. Looking forward to your listening impressions.

    Forgot to mention:

Have reversed polarity or phase of one speaker intentionally. As not to bother the neighbor's as bad. This cancels out one another. (but should not be used in critical listening!) Only for burn in purposes.
I also plan to place each speaker facing one another approx 6" apart. I then will cover them with three blankets to further dampen sound of the highs. And then just wait for these little eggs to emerge!LOL

Thanks CP for making this insane hobby... I mean passion more fruitful!

Day 6 of running fm stereo signal through the xo's. I found out this was a very rewarding investment. They definately opened up (possible due to the pollys removel) more, however no more brash sounding highs. More clarity and sonics, the bass seems tighter.
    Thanks for looking,

Cool! I am not on here much anymore during the weekdays . Pleased to meet a fellow Polkie neighbor! We should schedule those in our area to make a Polkfest?

In my experience the full burn in w/ Sonicaps/mills takes around 200-300 hours. Most of the improvement occurred at a little over 100 hours.

    Good work there!

Was interesting you made that observation... I purposely wired the speakers out of phase and threw like 3 blankets to dampen the sound of the highs. To my surprise, two days into the burn in... I took a peek inside and found out it was too warm in there! (no damage... Magnet slippage etc. etc.) I then replaced with only 1 blanket!
It is now 8 days into burn in. They are a part of my garage rig now.
Day 8 and now in correct phase:
The highs are crisper and in much richer detail as in before. It makes the transition between the two much more seemless.
The lows (mid woofer) moves air as with the electrolytic cap. But now has a much tighter response and as aforementioned on the highs, has more accurate detailed bass. Not "boomy" or "flabby" as before upgrade.

I do agree much more burn in time is needed as with any upgrade.
Final conclusion: If you have a pair of 7's around...invest about $268.00 in rdo's and sonicaps and mills, You will be impressed enough to put 25+ year old speakers up againts side by side in todays generation of speakers with similar specs. IMHO This upgrade in no way is suptle. This was a fun project, thanks for looking.
