I am not liking this season as much as the first season. IMO, the episodes drag along until something out of the blue happens and it carries it over to the next episode. Reminds me of a bad soap opera. I realize they are developing characters or at least trying to but the show is getting so melodramatic it is sickening.
Starting to loose me as an avid viewer but will give it a few more episodes.

Agree completely. I was just saying to someone the other day that it seems to have evolved into a soap opera. I think the main problem I have with it is that the three main characters are all so... well, as you said, melodramatic. Rick, Lori and Shane just irritate the heck out of me. The only character I really enjoy at this point is Daryl. Perhaps it's the acting, but I suspect it's the directing. There had been talk of a new writing staff and executive producer for the second season, but I have not kept up with it so I don't know what exactly happened. But I do know the second season is a real disappointment.

It does give me something to watch while I'm waiting for the next season of Breaking Bad. Hell on Wheels is not doing anything for me.

If you're disappointed in the show, just flip the channel. I'm still looking forward to seeing it on Sunday nights:)

Just watched the "Secrets" Episode and was left in shock. I agree that it is turning kind of Soap Opera-ish. Would love to get more Zombie action in there, which is what actually held me to the screen from the beginning.

    Now THAT's funny! Thanks, man!

I dunno, I grew to really like the show, although it took a little time. At first it was all about the zombies, and that was cool. After a while that got old and it needed something to advance the storyline beyond humans running from zombies and lots of kill shots. What absorbs me now is the challenges of life in that kind of world. They're facing real problems that are magnified in the face of impending doom and I think the characters are acting like they would if this were really happening. In this instance the show rises above just another horror show and becomes more about the adaptability and flexibility of humankind. Now, Dawn of the Dead had a much more subtle subtext. It was almost a story about how commercial the world had gotten, eventually turning everyone into "zombies" who, once undead, wandered almost instinctively to the shopping malls to quench their lust for...what? Material things? Flesh?

Or I could be completely wrong.

All i have to say is that was a great ending to the 2nd season, especially the last 8 15 seconds ...
Shane is still my favorite character and i still want the blonde chick to get her noodle ripped off by walker.

It is a mid seasson hiatus, the show starts up again in Feb 2012. Not sure why they did it that way but oh well.

This season was slower, some of the story lines were dragged a little longer then needed. It has been a good season. Last nights episode was a good one for sure.

A little longer? I'd say at least 3 episodes too long. The ending definitely needed a build up, but it shouldn't have taken seven HOURS to get there. Still, I watched every episode which is very rare with me when it comes to tv shows, so I can't complain too much. I still overall enjoyed it.

I agree about the three episodes of melodramatic filler. The latest episode was a good one but took far too long to get there. Great shocker though, I'll give them that, and now everyone knows what Shane is about, and Rick too, doing what no one else could do but needed to be done.

Just when I'm about to give up on this show, it pulls off something spectacular. No way, shape or form I saw that one coming.
That... and it was filmed perfectly. Shane went from hokey caricature to a whole different level of crazy in the span of about 10 minutes.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Agreed. I didn't see that ending coming. Ballsy ending to the mid-season finale for sure! Thats exactly what the series needed to kick it back in high gear. I enjoyed this season so far, no doubt, but it did get slow in there.

Shane is nuts, but now he gets to say...I told you so! They need to get their asses on the road again!
    No excuses!

Holy crap, that ending had me in complete shock. I was out of my seat, thinking there is no way. Had to watch the last 10 minutes or so over again. WOW!!! Bring it on, I need more.

i really like the show. I havent found it to be long and drawn out at all.

But I guess I'm in the minority. I'm more of a 'Rick' person than I am a 'Shane' person, so I can sympathize with how its been drawn out.

    Can't wait til February!

I've enjoyed every minute of every episode. I don't need zombie blasting all episode long to keep interested. The ending of this last episode was so intense, and so sad, I could hardly watch. Why the heck didn't Herschel tell them that there was a little girl in there? He needs a butt whoppin'.

Holy crap, what a great ending! Just watched it on DVR. If people can just be patient and allow themselves to get into a show and let it build then THIS is the payoff they're rewarded with. That ending was off the charts! Pacing and dynamics are so rare in TV these days and I'm so glad I invested my time into this show. Funny how the "soap opera" crybabies are awfully quiet now.

Herschel didn't know. As he said when they went to pull the two walkers out of the bog, that used to be Otis' job. So we can assume it was Otis that put her in there, but Shane thanked him for his help in getting medical supplies before he knew they were looking for a girl.

Hope they leave the farm/highway set come February.

I think Daryl mentioned on The talking Dead show that the next half of season two is going to be a lot more action and zombie killing. Hercshel wants them to leave, but I have a feeling something like a herd of zombies coming in might make him change his mind. Look for the character Michonne to show up to kick zombie **** later in the season, anyone heard about this?

I wouldn't go that far, I liked the second season until everyone got settled at the farm, then it got a little too melodramatic for my liking (excluding the last 20 minutes of the final episode of course)

Hopefully the first 20 min of the next episode is the farm owner kicking the crew off the farm. That would be an automatic plus for the show in my book.

Yes it was pretty slow but with the mid-season ending that we are hanging on, they can go in a hundred directions with this. Hopefully it will pick back up and stop having episodes that drag rather than flow.

As a side note, here's to hoping blondie finally gets her face ripped off!

Seems to be picking up a little bit. They had one of the producers on the Talking Dead show, and it was very clear that they heard a lot of the complaints we had about second season. Dave Navarro was there as well, and he made sure those complaints got repeated... almost to the point of being annoying. So yeah, the producer got grilled on that. Said there would be more action this season, but did not really confirm or deny that they would be leaving the farm.

With Rick/Shane, the way I see it is that Shane may have the best plan for outright survival, but Rick has the best plan for humanity's survival.
