Choose the widescreen format, they go away, old dog.:lol:

They aren't there if you select the "widescreen" format, just like you had to on the old forum.

I haven't seen any "valid concerns" yet about user friendliness, I've seen whining about whitespace and color schemes, which have methodically been addressed. Nevertheless, it's COLOR. 99% of the forums I stumble on on the interwebs use some default blue color scheme, and are littered with giant HTML signatures and avatars that make them next to unusable (both of which people have clamored for around here, by the way. If you think a little washed out color and whitespace make things bad, imagine signatures that are bigger than most posts, and blinking avatars). This place is one of the more user-friendly sites I've been to, and I don't say that as a brown-noser, just someone... rational.

Everyone has their minor complaints, and they're not necessarily completely invalid, I just don't see anything that should be a dealbreaker or affects user friendliness. All the buttons seem to be in the same place for the most part, or slightly moved.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

There's no difference for me between the standard and widescreen.

Nothing against Patrick and Nick as the real problem here has nothing to do with them. The real problem is that the new format is a **** and all the polishing in the world isn't going to change that.

I have no idea how that can be, but I'll take your word for it. Do you know what your screen resolution is set to?

So, I just ran some numbers, and it looks like my original hypothesis was incorrect. It seems the Old Farts and Dumb Kids dislike the new layout equally:

    Old Farts:

    Dislike: 69.57%

    Dumb Kids:

    Dislike: 68.75%

Furthermore, it appears that the population of this forum, or at least the voting population, is overwhelmingly Old Farts, at 55.42% vs. 19.27% for the Dumb Kids.

I should have broken the "I don't feel there's a big difference" section down by age, but I didn't.

I think one thing we can all agree on is that this forum was, and still is, a great place to learn about audio and help others learn about audio. We are all sticking around, regardless of the aesthetics of the layout, and there are no major grievances to speak of. All of the proposed changes and/or dislikes are relatively petty, superficial changes.

Now, just because the problems people have with the new layout are relatively petty does not mean that they're not worth discussing, and it also does not mean that it's not worth the extra effort to get it perfect. Why settle for "good" when we're capable of "great"? Isn't that the American way? In fact, anyone who does not voice their opinion and suggest changes for the new layout is not only anti-patriotic, they are most likely a terrorist.

I don't know either. The widescreen option worked perfectly with the old format.

    Set to maximum.

Nick, do you have any idea why the widescreen option does not work for me? I selected it in both the lower left box and in my settings, but no go.

Fred, scoll down and you'll see the option box in the lower left corner.

    Notes:
    * Selecting the Red/Grey Widescreen from the lower left option dropdown list does fix the whitespace issue, very nice widescreen format with minimal side whitespace bars.
    * Selecting the option box will not work if JavaScript is disabled (however, this could be fixed with a button to the right of the options box to cause the change to occur even if JavaScript is disabled).
    * Options selection will not be remembred if cookies are disabled, so it will revert to the default layout next time.
