Why do people keep saying stuff about the blues? The blue theme has been gone for a week now.

Yeah I think the "youre a bunch of whiners so just get the F out" attitude is a load of crap. As well as this "we should be thankful they give us a forum and have no right to complain" attitude. How many technical questions do we answer here from customers? How many sales you think we talk people into here? I'm not saying the company can't live without us, but we do earn our keep and are not getting a free ride.

All that being said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with complaining about a drastic change in a forum a lot of us love and have been a part of for nearly a decade especially when its obvious there are LOT more negative opinions towards the new look than positive.

I don't see anybody trying to arrange a boycott, I just see people giving their criticisms of a drastic redesign and I don't think its out of line by any means.

I agree with the WE matter idea. Polk Audio also asked for feedback and always has when it comes to the forum and products in particular. Readers may also be interested to know that they actually listen and read this place as well. Club Polk members have been a source of valuable information and real time feedback since I came on board in 2003.

Yes, the general view is it's a bunch of complaining but is it really any different from any other time here in Club Polk? This place covers all the bases when it comes to any subject whether it be an awful suggestion, ridiculous answer or serious scientific response complete with graph and measurement data. If you want variety....we got you covered.

Honestly? Probably one of THE best forums on the audio circuit and free of ads, third party solicitations and otherwise general clutter and BS.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Great attitude. Sarcasm here. Am I happy that the forum is up and running yes. Do I have to like it? No Should I be invited to leave if I dont like it? No. Am I willing to wait for things to get tweaked? yes. The point that you and a few others are obviously missing here Cathy is that constructive criticsm is a very useful tool new people coming here will also be turned off by the same things that we older members dislike about the changes too, which means less participation in the forum as a whole. If you cant see a big difference in what this new layout entails you need new glasses.

Several things stand out to me.

    1. Different god awful funky smilies.

    2. Very slow navigation between boards, try using the backspace bar when your typing a message slower than hell.

    3. Some little popup asks me most of the time when I attempt to leave a thread and go to a new one am I sure I want to navigate away? PITA

    4. Hard to distinguish Karma's News etc from regular threads.

    5. Feedback still isnt working even after new layout change.

6.The horrible Red border and pink background quotes are in now.

    7. Many other things I havent mentioned but others have all lead to less enjoyment and less time spent here which means less new threads etc. If it becomes a big enough pain in the butt people will actually leave and new ones wont stay, hopefully Patrick and others will realize that the criticism is actually meant to be helpful not just whining. If I had a business and one of my employees told a customer they can either accept something or leave I would fire them in a heartbeat, I realize this forum is free and not a business per se but that is a real bad attitude to have.

Snow many good points in your thread however, most of them have been voice multiple times in multiple threads. Constructive criticism should be key here. If we would limit our selves to provide info in the threads Patrick and Nick have dedicated for that purpose it would be fine but in all honesty right now the matter just remind of any cable threads or equipment bashing. Rome was not created in a single day. Some issues were voiced and tweaked, some tweaks may still need to be addressed, that is the characteristic of tweaking, try some go back try something else. Some issues were not addressed yet, again Rome was not created in a single day. Many might want to go back to the vintage way of doing things fact is we will never be able to go back. Patrick and Nick are doing their best to make things look alike and please us and we should respect that. We are guesses and should respect and appreciate that, we should not demand but ratter propose.

That is the thing, before complaining and pointing at problems, we should stop and see where the problems is. If we have the problem of not using the tool properly, no reason to blame the tool and pointing out it is innefficient.

Constructive criticism is definitely not out of line but on the contrary can be very helpfull to help during the tweaks. What is counter productive is comments like the new format sucks, generalising and saying it all wrong. There is a new tool here and normally upgrades are for the best so let's just work hands in hands to make it efficient ratter than bashing it.

If people can focus and abide by the above simple instructions, they'll be constructive and positive! ;) If Patrick and Nick has to go all over the forum to answer and manage complaints, well they have less time for tweaking and just takes longer and the longer Polkies remain frustrated.

A month or so away from CP (You really must have missed cable debates and the likes. ;) ), CP's changes, well your attitude hasn't changed a single bit in the process! ;)

Being positive has nothing to do with having head's up into management **** (I don't have anything to gain from such, I don't work here, I'm just a guess and I respect and appreciate that, do you?). You should try positive thinking someday might do you some good! ;)

Well I can see once again my constructive criticism hasnt been taken well :)) Nothing wrong with being positive but going to each and every one of these types of threads and repeating the same mantra over and over makes you appear to be a world class **** kisser. Sometimes you just have to read between the lines to see the hidden message.

I know you are attemting to be the peacemaker here and the voice of reason etc but the fact is we are all grown men and women and dont need to be told over and over the same things. Like Brell cream a litlle dab will do you.

Well im not going to argue that point with you, there is a lot of that going on. I probally should have voiced my concerns in the thread designed for ideas etc instead of this one, my primary goal by replying here was to show that yes there is some things that could be made better and we as a collective should have the privelege of voicing those concerns instead of dont like it leave attitudes.

User interface is a big part of usability. Button locations, color scheme, understanding of icons, etc. It's not a matter of "you can't teach an old dog new tricks", it's a matter of does the new design improve usability or does it introduce any sort of learning curve that may be undesirable. If a user complains about something, there's probably a good reason to do so.

(Consider the whole ribbon aspect in Windows software, it's a similar issue.)

In my opinion, the forum is too bright--maybe a dimmer color scheme? There is too much whitespace at the sides--but then looking at another forum Westcoaster.net, it has a similar amount of whitespace at the sides--so then it seems this may be a design issue with the bulletin board software, and they need to fix that. There are a good amount of similar elements from the old forum, and I usually gloss over the smiley elements when I read the forum. It's immediately usable to me, but the forum brightness is certainly something I am not going to just get used to.

I'll also mention that webmasters should not joke about their users if they dislike parts of a new forum format. So what if an "old dog" can't be taught "new tricks", maybe something is wrong with the trick, not the old dog?

Maybe if all the dogs that were complaining would :

    1. Pay attention to other threads addressing these issues BEFORE they complained
    2. Listened to the responses by the mods about the issues

their legitimate complaints would be given more credence. For example, the "whitespace on the sides" issue has been resolved, and there's a thread addressing it. Several of the other complaints, like thread titles and the like, have also been fixed given time. The mods have specifically said "give us a few weeks."

If you can't be bothered to at least look to see that there are solutions to your complaints, why should anyone listen to your whining, or see it as anything other than refusal to accept change?
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Maybe you should realize that the "dogs" aren't complaining because they don't like change. They are voicing valid concerns that this new format is not as user friendly as the old one and never will be. Furthermore, maybe you should realize that the white spaces are still there.
