Is that a firm budget? You're really at entry level at that price, not that you can't find a receiver to get the job done.

Actually, check this one out in the Flea Market:

I know you're new, but perhaps you could make a deal with the seller (no affiliation). That's a good price for a nice receiver.

I have a higher end pioneer in my system and I love it. I can't comment on that specific model, though.

Go with H/K, not only do i use one, but its probally the most recomended on this forum, they have great high current clean power,

Do you need 3D? If you don't, I'd look for a Pio SC-05/07. You'll have to stretch your budget some, but it will be worth it. I wouldn't buy anything without pre-out connections. IMO, the receivers with pre-outs usually point to better overall build quality. Good luck, your on your way to a nice setup.

    Welcome to CP!

    That's not true at all.

The most recommended is without a doubt the Pioneer SC series of Elite receivers.

And, as mentioned before, you're suggesting a 2-channel receiver to someone who's obviously looking for surround sound ala 5.1

I know we all like to increase our post counts, but unless you have something beneficial to say, it might be best to not make noise.

I'm not trying to be a dick, but I see patterns when they appear, and I'm looking out for dudes like the OP here, by protecting him from dudes like you.
    2-Channel: PC > Schiit Eitr > Audio Research DAC-8 > Audio Research LS-26 > Pass Labs X-250.5 > Magnepan 3.7's

Living Room: PC > Marantz AV-7703 > Emotiva XPA-5 > Sonus Faber Liuto Towers, Sonus Faber Liuto Center, Sonus Faber Liuto Bookshelves > Dual SVS PC12-Pluses

Like I said, I'm not trying to be a dick; I generally like people.

And no, the OP was not asking about HK.

Whether or not HK outsells Pio has nothing to do with quality or with your statement that HK receivers are the most recommended on this site. They aren't. Period.

The point here is that you should use phrases like "maybe" or "probably" or "I'm not sure, there may be better answers" instead of blatantly stating that your preference is fact.

Again, I'm not trying to be a dick, I just don't like seeing people who are new to the hobby being led astray by brazen ineptitude.

To be honest Falcon, I said, there probally, the most recomended, so you need to read what i wrote, Also, i dont believe you have the right to tell anyone what they should post, or how to phrase it, And ive never tried to lead anyone astray,, You seem to have something agaisnt H/K gear, thats fine, MY op, means as much as yours, and i believe you cant go wrong with H/K gear, Pease read my post, before you disect them, Its nothing personal, but pioneer isnt all that, and a bag of chips, and yes, H/K gear is some of the best High end gear you can buy for the money, look into it, if im wrong, PM me and let me know, as this is not our personal debate thread,,

I have the right to tell anyone anything at any time, but that doesn't mean that you have to listen to me.

I have nothing against HK. I also have nothing for Pioneer.

I don't want to fight anymore; I just want to be friends, but if we're going to be friends, you're going to have to learn to use a period from time to time.

Devilray has monitor speakers and a small budget for a receiver. I was in that same situation too less than 2 months ago. So I'm gonna recommend an Onkyo to Devilray.

They should make his monitors sound pretty good and Onkyo has better power numbers than cheaper equipment from other makers. We all know we need preouts but like me, some people don't have the coin to get that stuff. So we need to get the best bang for our buck. Get an Onkyo, it's so easy the wife can use it.

You can get them from shop Onkyo on the net. You can also find refurbs for cheap too.
I do recommend that you do your home work before a model.

A bought a 608 from last year for around 200 and it has been fine, however, some of the other models from that year had serious problems. see if you can find a TX-sr 608 they seem to be ok and you can get one cheap.

yes, if you look at shop onkyo web site you'll find that some models had recall notices or service bulletins. The 608 was not on the list. I think the 708 and the 508 are on the list and a few more.

I also am new to the site and looking for help/insight/recommendations for what I plan to have as my set up. I know this is a budget set up, but just want something simple and effective for my girlfriend and I to use. I already have 2 Monitor 30 Bookshelf speakers but I plan to get:

    2 Monitor 50 Floor Speakers
    1 CS1 Center Channel
    1 Pioneer VSX-520-K

Will this all work? From the research I have done I think it should but like I said I am pretty novice at these things. Any suggestions would be great.

    Thanks,

    Mo
