Los Angeles... The effing baggers and cashiers are represented by the AFL-CIO/Teamster's unions. Makes everything in the stores some 30% more expensive than it should be.

Okay, lets just go to Merriams-Webster OnLine:

    Example of HYPERBOLE

...NO MATTER what....a pound of dogs should not cost the same as a pound of 93% beef hamburger. I always wait til they are on sale. It's the principal of the thing. Beef dogs are all the scraps that are left over. Chicken and turkey dogs I wouldn't buy at even a buck a pound. They are rubbery and tasteless in my humble opinion.

Could be supply and demand. If not many people are buying hot dogs then the price should be higher than if everyone was buying hot dogs.

Considering whats in a hotdog, they should practically give them away. The price of hotdogs in and of itself is still fairly cheap considering what everything else costs these days. Heck, I tip the pizza delivery guy more than what a pack of dogs costs.

Want to know how to bring the price of hotdogs down ? Stop buying them.

The cost of anything has nothing to do with its quality. Why everyone, espeically the relatively smart people on here, still buys into that myth is amazing to me.

prices have gone up a ton....

i always look for the sales.

this last week Vons had a sale on untrimed TriTip for $1.99'lbs limit 2

i went back and got a few of them.

i also have a good friend that works at Albertsons, he gave me his second workers rewards discount card. saves anywhere from 2% to 25% off the total bill. it comes in handy....

and i WILL NOT buy meat from Walmart.

Meat processing plants, read up, you'd be surprised on where it all comes from, and goes. Not too much difference between brands. A Tyson chicken is the same from a national grocer, or Walmart, so I don't see the negativety on Walmart. A Walmart branded meat however,I have no friggin' idea where that comes from, nor do I want to know.

Who gives a crap if it's greed or not? You're the consumer, make your decisions on whatever criteria you feel like.

Companies are in business to make money, not to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. If you want to start a commune where you and all your friends share processed meat products at a "fair" price, no one's gonna stop you.

Yep, and the purpose of a business is to make a profit. That is the motivating factor for creating and running a business. I wouldn't bother starting or running a business if I wasn't going to make profit, and I doubt you would either, Gimpod.

We just got a brand new Wegmans store in our area, that place has prices all over the map! $1.99/lb. ground beef plus cheeses & salami for $19.99/lb. BTW, IIRC Costco sells Nathan's dogs for around $3.00/lb. or thereabouts.

I have no problem with someone making a profit. I don't work for free nor do I expect anyone else to but where do you draw the line at what's fair 500%, 1000%, 10000% markup ?.

You should care about the excessive greed running rampant in this country it's destroying it.

Back to hot dog's I don't care what they cost I don't eat them they make feel sick.

I half way agreed when I first read this but now I don't. It is supply and demand as you illuded to, however, keep in mind that without some form of quality you have little demand, therefore more supply causing a lower price.

Hebrew National and Nathan's are pretty much what I buy when I have to buy. They're always at a premium price...but then again...we don't eat that many Hot dogs so it's sort of an occasion. Other than that, there are local places that make really great dogs throughout the U.S. Even 'up here' where salt pork and frying is the secret process.

Ahhhhhh.....if life only worked like we read in a text book. Great book definition of Capitalism, but there is no "pure" form of Capitalism so your black and white responses aren't fully grounded in reality.

There are other forces that don't allow for pure Capitalism to reach the full, idealized definition you learned about in school.

We're still just talking about selling hot dogs right?
