Hmm... I've had good experiences with 2 different Technics EQ's, most recently early this year when I sold my SH-8057. I thought it was a very solid unit. All the specs suggested so... so i thought.

Seems perhaps I can do better. I would certainly take the advice. Anything to combat the inefficient Pioneer EQ I dislike fiddling with.

Also, I haven't found a SH-8057 for less than $80 used when I DO find one. I sold mine for $100 back in January.

I'm just yankin' your chain Drenis. Though equalizers and me don't gel well together, If that floats your boat, rock out to it by all means.

If you don't like the equalizer in your receiver, why not just not use it ? If you have a direct mode,or pure audio mode, that will bypass the equalization you dislike.

You need a real EQ, a parametric, Find a SAE 180 for around $50 on ebay, I have one, no pretty flashing lights, just more control than any graphic EQ, you get to adjust frequency, bandwith and level for highs and lows in both channels separately.

I always understood that slider style controls are more susceptible to noise in the stream as they get dirty. (Had an Old Toshiba receiver that had sliding controls and it sounded terrible.) Thats why i liked the digital controls of the Technics.

I've played around with my Pure Direct mode on my Elite but I find that it doesn't sound as good as Stereo or Direct with Sound Retrieval enabled. Hell, maybe I am doing something wrong.

I'm very familiar with most people disliking the EQ. I certainly needed one when I had the Bose ;)

They all add noise no matter what type of controls you use, they are a bandaid for sure in most cases, unless you have serious room issues. If room issues are the case then a standard EQ won't help at all.

If it sounds bad in direct mode, then your source isn't up to snuff. What are you using as a source, and what kind of cable is connecting the two?

Anthem AVM30. Should of just moved it to the bedroom instead of using an old receiver in there.

I had a pair of Legacy Whisper speakers years ago. Picked them up from a friends father for $1200.00 back in the day. I had no idea what they were other than that they played loud as all get out. Would really like to see how they sound since my ears are tuned better now. Back then they were nothing more than a party speaker to me.....who knows they could still be just a party speaker for all I know since my listening skillz have improved.

Whispers for 1200.....man, you do know what retail is on those bad boys ? Sure wouldn't put them in the class of party speaker though. Cerwin Vega...yea, Whispers, uh...no.

Unless they were beat to all hell, but even the cabinets and parts are worth that.

The speakers were in awesome shape. Nothing wrong with them at all. I liked them cause they were big and loud. I never listened to them how I listen to music now. Hell, Bose probably would have sounded awesome. I did not know any different. Back then I listened to pretty much anything but I was in my Metallica,Slayer,Pantera days then so that's what was pretty much played on them. I still remember listening to Seasons in the Abyss by Slayer so loud that my neighbors wanted to tell me to turn it down but they were scared (the father told me later that his wife would not let him come over). They probably thought I was a Satan worshiper or something, lol. Right before I went into the military I sold them to my buddy.
