This should be a wake up call to you Easterner earthquake newbies - upgrade your building codes, condemn unsafe buildings, and learn what to do in an earthquake - running outside like I've been reading what lots of folks did is an epic fail.

Eh, GV around? I wonder if the Igloo managed to stand the small ''earthwave'' coming from the US? My Igloo is now a simple snow bank but its Ok, I use it as a cooler for my ''polar beer'' and I turned my HT into a drive in ($$$$ in the horizon).

Well, I'm about 30 minutes from the epicenter, basically a stones throw away and all I can say is that was the craziest thing I've ever felt. I was in the middle of Walmart getting ready to head back to the time clock to clock out when all hell broke lose. I thought the damn building was gonna come down on us. The grocery department got leveled with everything falling off the shelves, it was so bad that they had to shut down the store for a few hours to clean up after they inspected the building of course. My first earthquake EVER that I can remember but I have to say, it felt really cool. Now, for you guys that go through it all the time and laugh at the 5.8 we had, I can only imagine what a REAL quake fells like. All in all things are good and we lived to tell about it but like I said, really interesting day to say the least.

Yeah......sorry about that fellas. We'll try not to play the 1812 so loud next time. Didn't think anybody would notice but I guess we were wrong.

Imagine all that shaking lasting throughout the day. Tremors and much aftershock, paints a picture of what Japan was like just on a smaller level.

My power was cycling on and off about 20 times every half hour for an hour at that time, very strange...I-Sig, riverratt, was yours doing the same?

Irene is coming in a few days for another punch to your area out there, that'll make I-95 a parking lot for sure :frown:

I was working on the Eastside, and they didn't have power issues. My wife was off today and she didn't mention anything (we're up near Oro Valley).
My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

I was in Princeton NJ and didn't feel a thing. The MRS of the house came up and told us that their was Earth Quakes happening , Then I learned it shook Bucks County PA which is where I lived. My wife called me and told me it shock pretty good as the iMac was swaying back and forth. She thought that someone was working underground in the neighbor hood and using Dynamite.

Trust me on this, considering I live on top of the Hayward Fault, the earthquake fault likely to cause the next great San Francisco earthquake....Vibrapods underneath your gear work like a charm.

Yeah, wouldn't want to interrupt the tunes while devastation is going on. The Audio Gods would frown on that.

USGS downgraded the VA quake to 5.8 on their website. Felt it here in Southern Maryland (Pax River NAS) while I was at work; VERY slow North-South oriented swaying, then I told my coworker "We're having an earthquake!". He said "I feel it!" then BAM! Follow-on moving back & forth about 6-8" went on for about 30 seconds-1 minute. It felt freaky.

We had a big 6.8 in Turkey when I was there in the late 90s & the roads were rolling like ocean waves--cars were bouncing completely off their tires. I thought my entire apartment building was going to tumble~

It's weird. A good amount of people stayed home today I don't know why. There is a greater threat from Hurricane Irene than there was from an earthquake. Very little damage in Philly too and most buildings and structures came out of it unscathed. Yet everybody is freaked out. It was eerie last night too. Dead quiet. Seemed like everyone went to bed early or something.
