I am in the same boat with a center channel that I moved to the rear . The hole in my cone is right next to the rubber

Rubber cement, Gasket sealant, I have used both.

Rubber cement worked quite well and almost disappeared.

Gasket Sealant was same color and blended right in.

Use either from the back of the cone not the front for better appearance.

Clear silicone; applied a very thin layer to the area. It works great for a temp fix when foam surrounds begin to disintegrate~

If the surround is foam, it is best to replace it. Replacement foam surrounds are available from numerous vendors, both generic and driver-specific. A popular one, for example, is www.partsexpress.com

Rubber surrounds are probably best repaired with a combination of a single-ply of toilet paper (or artists'/modelers' tissue paper) behind the tear and rubber cement or a flexible cement such as "GC Service Cement" (available from local or on-line electronics parts/supply houses). It won't hurt to saturate the TP with the cement, too. You want the repair to be strong, flexible, but light in weight -- not to mention, ideally, airtight.

BEFORE: Rotted Pioneer HPM-1100 (JBL-esque) foam woofer surround, undergoing a CAT scan.

    Results of CAT scan:

AFTER: Repaired woofer - this somewhat specialized woofer deserved, and got, a non-generic surround.

heh. my first surround replacements were a pair of C-Vs. Perfect fodder for practice :-) Bought the PE kit with the charming and appropriate red foam.

They served my son well for years.

Got it at Lowe's. The package says it's their most durable, and stays flexible. Especially good for rubber.

I used it to seal a small hole in the surround on one of my MW's that now serves as a back up.

You can always use the Handy Mans secret weapon, Duct Tape.
Those silver surrounds and cones will be nice.

OK, rubber cement and toilet paper or the equivalent on the back of the rubber surround?

Trying to repair a couple of tears in Monitor 5 mids and also 'reattach' the surrounds? What substance would you use to secure the rubber surround to the assembly itself?

I have a tear in one mid and some leaks in the other because some 'genius' tried to install the mid screws without first cutting out some of the rubber surround so that the screws would NOT tear them to pieces as they were being turned! And I'm supposed to be technically incompetent. At least I know not to do something this stupid.

Almost ruined the Monitors, but I think we can save them. They play, they're fine--but leaking air through less than perfect surround seals and surround tears doesn't cut it.

    Many thanks!

I use Epoxy to secure the surround to the Frame and Rubber Cement to fix tears in the surround itself.

Hardware store. I usually get the kind in a split tube you mix. You don't need much and I try to make it as thin as I can or you can see a bump. Not pretty that way.

Looks good there. I still haven't gotten around to it. I put two big amps in for fixing. The bill comes next week. Then I might order my practice surrounds.
