I think I am going to pick up at a XLS1500 tomorrow - the excitement is killing me already!

I ran the model without any EQ and it is -3db at 20hz, so with room gain it should be stellar. No EQ needed. Not to mention it will use less power but I am going to get the 1500 incase the Pioneer Elite EQs it any...

Just ordered a custom engraved plate that says "VR3 Audio" to put on the front in black steel. Silver lettering. Should look SLICK!

Whats a cool name I could call it?

I'll be joining you in the TC Sounds club. Having ED subwoofers custom make me two 12" enclosures with passives.

Were they reasonable on their price?

$250. Flat black finish with grill. High gloss was a extra $140 each cab. That's fully braced with the 2" face so the woofer on full excursion won't hit the grill.

Thinking about getting 2 crown XLs 1000's. 1100 watts each driver should be plenty.

What do you think will be better for music 12" sealed or 12" sealed w/ 12" passive?

If this build goes smoothly I wanna do dual 18's next since ED prices are great. Just wondering how the mid bass is with the LMS 5400's

Not to plug - but if you want the Crown's let me know and I can get them to you 299 free shipped.

    Anyways**

That is a freaking awesome price. I like the Ed crew ALOT.

Those guys got their stuff together.

The LMS woofers suck sealed, period.

They need a PR or a port.

I would say the PR will get you good response for music.

To be quite honest the TC Sounds woofers lack alot of midbass definition - they are low hitters man. If I were to build a music first sub, I would probably go for the Epic series in a smaller woofer.... IMO

I plan to let the RT3000P subs do the 80hz and below and the TC Sounds 50hz and below!

I ordered a SA1000 earlier today. The more I thought about - 1000 watts should be plenty and it would be nice to have some flexibility other than turn the thing on

If my Mythos ST's don't sell i'll just use the built in powered subs to fill in the mid bass since the midbass IMO in those towers are good. I might just have to run 2 sms-1's.

Is it me or does the surround look fubar'd? The sub looks stellar though.

That dark spot is where it is "wet" - literally just got through cleaning it.

The surround is huge though, but definitely not messed up!

    Thanks!

The finish on the cabinets is pretty nice in person, eh? I have a pair of PE's 1ft^3 cabs and except for a couple of small imperfections, look great and save a lot of time.

FYI, a couple coats of Meguire's wax on them(even the baffle) will really make them "pop"!

Would you buy the sub cabinets again? I'm thinking of picking up a pair.

YES! I would buy them again and again, my cabinet was immaculate.

If I did not have the RT3000p - I would be buying more for my former 2 ch sub project... but dont need them.

I was surprised, impressed and satisfied!

Cant recommend the cabs enough as long as you are willing to put forth the effort to improve them such as bracing or no rez, etc

Oh yeah, Sonic Barrier is a crappy product. I hate it and wish I did not buy it.

Very nice looking! That surround looks like a bicycle tire tube.

    Alright - ran some test...

Quite a bit of port noise running real low (20hz) stuff, but it is digging, calibrating the rig and seeing how it performs in real world applications.

Amazed at how much air this thing moves at 20hz... lol - 4" port, flared on both ends! Wow

Completely disregard the port noise issue - it was a setup issue...

This thing is freakin intense. Incredibly clean with no signs of bottoming...

Played the Transformers scene where Ironhide shoots the ground and it is gut wrenching low with ZERO port noise.

I am excited. Powering it with a XLS1000

If you are playing test tones only - when it starts to dig below 20hz and it digs below the tuning you can hear mechanical noise where the cone is just moving real far -- the SA1000 subsonics filter will fix this

Yep - ran a few more movie scenes and youtube videos of extreme bassness and for a subwoofer 18x18x20 - it easily compares to the VMPS Larger in extension and is a few hairs louder and gut wrenching - so yeah, this is a keeper.

Sweeeeeet!!!! Even though I'm completely satisfied with the 15" I built, looking at other peoples builds always gives me the itch to build more and more subs for myself:eek: I only live a few hours from PartsExpress and have wanted to check them out in person but I'm afraid I would end up single when I return home:tongue::frown:

    Amp arrived.

I ordered a SUBDUDE to set it on. I put grip feet on the sub dude so it would not walk.

Cranked it all the way up - the chasis of the amp does not even vibrate or rattle. I love it.

I didnt want to take even MORE floor space or set the amp on the floor. This seemed logical!

I also wanted to comment - that as long as you are playing "real world" stuff there is no noticeable port noise.

Now if you are constantly listening to "I love big speakers" - then you might want to do what I plan to do in the future and integrate two 3" ports.

You could also enlarge the box to 4 cu ft (obviously would have to build your own) and do 3, 3" ports.

I think I may buy a new blank front baffle, put the ports on the baffle then make the woofer down firing - get some "legs" to extend the height and attach it to a base for the woofer to fire into.

Looking good! Did you take any spl measurements? Any volume at 20hz and below?
    Thanks

The tuning is at 20hz and the subsonic filter is set to 18hz....

I will take some measurements in room one day....

I can tell you that it hits 20hz with no issues as I have owned my fair share of 20hz capable subs...

According to WinISD it can do 112db at 20hz with 1300 watts but it will move ALOT of air which can cause port noise.

In a 4 cu ft box, three 3" ports it can do the same SPL with 1/3 the port noise...

I think long term I will re-engineer the sub to be down firing and put two front firing 3" ports that will reduce port noise by half.

    Shall see.

I think for my use its current configuration will be exactly what I want.

I just played "I love big speakers" with the new SA-1000 amp vs. a XLS1000 and it seemed to have ALOT more control and tone than the XLS1000 and a bit more balls to it.

    Dayton.

I REALLY like it - I paid 375 shipped with a hat and I must say it is a notch or two better in every category over the XLS1000. Tone, speed, accuracy and maybe even power...

The problem with the XLS1000 and the XLS series the second you start taxing the amp it starts really reducing volume and degrading the signal... as long as you dont do this you dont have this issue.

But so far with the SA1000 just having normal subwoofer functions and ballsy power is very nice.
