Ordered the Dayton Cherry 3.0 cu ft sub enclosure

Going to throw in a 4" flared port, approx 27" long - should provide 111db at 20hz at maximum output with a -10db at 15hz...

Going to line the enclosure will sonic barrier - going to double up the baffle so I can recess the woofer and most likely will throw in a few braces.

I ran the specs with 2.75 cu ft just to see what happened and the results hardly changed so I should have some play with souping up the box!

I am pretty pumped, going to pick up another XLS1000 to drive it.

Going to use the LMS-R 12

Not bad for a 600 dollar sub! lol

I just came to the realization I dont have time to build from scratch!

On the flip side - with an amp, I dont know of a sub for 900 smackers that can come close to this sub??? lol

Any chance you can show some links to the parts list for this sub? I have been thinking of a DIY HT sub, and a separate one for music (maybe servo) and this sounds like a great HT sub...

    Did some more modeling

With a 2db bump at 30hz and 20hz and -2db at 80hz... and increase the port length to 30" -- you can get pretty freakin solid response to 18hz but it says it will consume 1350 watts... so I might need a bigger amp! :)

I am thinking XTI1002 on this one, run Hi Q Net and use the Parametric EQ built in, run some sweeps for the room and smooth it out for my room.

Pretty stoked, not gonna lie! :)

You will have to let me know what you think. I am actually tempted now to build a couple sealed enclosures for my 2 channel system. Maybe even based on the LMS-R 12... we will see. It just popped into my little head today. The dayton enclosures are nice from what I can see.

The LMS-R 12 models horrible in a sealed box, FWIW

Ported or Passive Radiators are where its at.

Porting it is much cheaper as you would need two passive radiators to achieve similar results to what I showed above

I haven't modeled it, so thanks for the heads up. I have a LMS Ultra 5400 18" driver in a sealed enclosure that performs well, but it lacks the mid bass slam the smaller drivers have. It is TRULY a subsonic performer, but at the seacrifice of the slam, which I miss. Pairing it with a couple PR might help....

The LMS-R 12 in a sealed enclosure looks like a mountain, rolls off early and late...

Now in a 3 cu ft box it modeled ok but started to dive around 30hz and needed like 15db of boost to get it presentable and would have required something like 5,500 watts! ahaha

Adding the port increased output and would required 1,400 watts.

Musical fidelity has little interest to me with this subwoofer, I want it to hit deep and I want it to hit hard

I am pretty pumped about this - may get up early Sunday morning and pull out the plunge router and down to business...

The front baffle is actually thicker than I anticipated so it kind of throws off how I was going to do this! LOL

But I will figure it out!

Regardless I am going to need to add another layer to the front baffle... will give me roughly 1" of meat to screw the driver into!

i think the side walls are the top and bottom could
use a little bit and front to back could use a bit

Now that I am not on a cell phone waiting on an oil change lol...

The enclosure is solid (3/4 walls) - 1" thick brace 3" or so wide going side to side - the front baffle is 1" thick and the back is 3/4" thick...

I would recommend installing a brace going top to bottom and front to back toward the middle - but you risk using to much internal volume and to top that off if you are like me trying to put 25-30" of port in the enclosure your options are limited. On top of that my woofer is 9" deep so bracing is limited.

I plan to thoroughly line the enclosure with Sonic Barrier (3/4") to help keep enclosure resonances down and I am going to line the port with dynamat to keep those resonances down.

But a 3 cu ft enclosure, 199 + 15 shipping with real cherry wood veneer with an immaculate finish and magnetic grills....???

    Heck yes!

To bad the grill is unusable with my driver!! :(

    Yup!

Cut the woofer cut out and port cut out today --

I figured this would happen but the router marred the front a little bit... so I rough sanded it - thru on some spray paint and I am going to put a textured finish on it...

I added 1/2" plywood and did a 5/8" recess for the woofer, so that leaves me roughly 1" to screw into to hold the woofer down!!

Will post pics sometime in the next few days!

Also - if anyone is waiting on a "performance" review - that may not happen for a few months as I will have to save up some dough to get me an amp... I have pretty decided XTI1002.

Are you set on the DSP or the warranty??? You can pick up a Crown CE 4000 for less than that amp and it will squash it! Just a thought.

The XTI1002 has variable, controlled fan speeds, I want the built in EQ...

But really and truly the variable speed is what I am interested in. If it were not for the EQ I would get a XLS1500

The baffle is 1.5" thick :). The woofer is recessed 5/8" and it has a 7/8" mounting surface, the screws barely poked through the baffle.
