I left a message at a number I received from another member here and confirmed through a little investigation. It appears it belongs to both him and a Wilhemina B Williams. I am assuming mother? Anyways, called and left a nice detailed and polite message asking for Ben to call me back or to reply to my emails. Maybe I can win her over with kindness :D Maybe she will ship them back to me!

I'd say that you probably aren't the only person he is ducking. I'm sure that he is in arrears to more than just you.

    Good luck.

    BDT

absolutely. There were warning posts made concerning this member..shouted down by some as being the ramblings of grumpy old men, hasn't the feedback system been down for a long time, not perfect though even when it worked, as it has been buyer beware for a few years now in the FM. This is terrible. Our culture here has been based upon trust, which makes it possible for things to happen, occasionally a member will pm me about people here, at least one member was saved some agony when he inquired about someone asking him for money and got the real scoop before doing so. ben has many issues and problems, I have been out of touch with his dealings though for quite a while, I do want everyone to get their gear back but like BDT....good luck. The membership may be able to help in some cases...I just wonder how broad a scope are we talking?

Each individual person needs to make their own call as it is their business...however, as a LEO my advice is to start a paper trail and notify him to return your gear forthwith. Perhaps auntie can provide contact information.

I dont really like that auntie put a number but not her first name..its always the little things. Why not pm?

You would think with all the people Ben has blowing in the wind his Aunt would atleast step up and give a little more info about what happened and what's going on, etc. That right there seems a little suspect to me.

I'm not trying to pile on, but don't make a post about him getting robbed with absoultely no follow up. I'm telling you, something is fishy.

While that is a good thing to pursue, I bet the gear and money is gone at this point otherwise why not make that the first option when contacting the membership here.

The robbery (real or fake) HAS to have something to do with either the money or gear people sent or both, or why even post a couple sentences about it with absolutely no follow up.

I guess I got lucky then - Ben did a good job w/ my LSi9 xos earlier this year. Good communication & got them back in ~ 3wks - this doesn't sound like the Ben I did business with. I believe I sent my xos to Connecticut at the time as well.

I see you vets dancing around specifics so I guess I won't ask, but I sympathize if the guy has disappeared and folks' gear is still with him. That sucks.

I already sent that email this morning... Some of the stuff I can file a claim with Paypal... But not all of it since I waited to long.

If the transaction is outside of EBAY Paypal is pretty much worthless when it comes to resolving a claim. You are limited to what the seller (Ben) has in his Paypal account if you win the claim.

Had this been an EBAY transaction you'd have more protection.

I think if Ben was going to offer any further explanation as to his whereabouts and/or status of this "robbery", his "aunt" would have. It probably isn't going to happen in the near future. He may come around after the dust settles and offer what he considers a reasonable explanation, but don't hold your breath.

+1 Viper. It's going to be really sad if an almost 16K post member with lots of FM feedback suddenly became dishonest. I am reserving any judgment since it has been only 2 days since his aunt posted. If he just lost his house, has been robbed, and who knows what else then I wouldn't expect posting to this site to be his first priority.

Just bought something relatively small off of him the FM. I will wait for communication from him for about a week. If nothing then I perhaps will start a dispute with my CC company. Until then, I will give him the benefit of the doubt.

That is it! Unless he is laid up in the ICU in traction or something. Why didn't he at least tell the aunt to tell everyone here what is up. Very piss poor communication to say the least.

Also, you guys been watching eBay to see if your stuff is up for sale right? Just saying.....you never know. I'd be watching Craigslist CT as well.

    Damn, judge much?

Steve, regardless of what happened here, the way this was handled is piss poor. You open yourself up to speculation with a post like this from someone on Ben's account claiming to be an aunt.

In addition, stuff happens behind the scenes here that never makes it's way to the open forum. Some of the people being what may be viewed by others as 'harsh' are warranted in their remarks.

Ben is and has been way over his head, and the true character shows up when you're under the kind of duress he is under. Things have been getting hinkey with him for a while. All of the gear swapping should have stopped way back then and everyone should have had their stuff and/or money.

This behavior leads people to think that he was never "robbed," as this thread claims. Those people may be wrong, but they aren't wrong for speculating because of past behavior.

I'm sure everyone here genuinely hopes he gets his crap together, but this is the kind of stuff the forum doesn't need and why, as you know, people are so protective of the FM. How many people are affected by this whole mess and why wasn't there better communication?

I've been screwed before with online forum dealings... I gave the benefit of the doubt for a long time. It was one excuse after another and then just zero communication. I finally just disputed it with my CC.

Got my money back 24hrs later and moved on. That guy ran away with over $25,000 in cash...

The problem is that some of my money was sent over 60 days ago, and come to find out, my bank won't do anything for transactions older than 60 days!!! Paypal is 45 days.... the more recent stuff I should be fine. But that is not the bulk of it. And neither of them can replace my crossovers.

+1 Maximillian. I am in the same boat. He could easily be on the road. I have a lot to lose but am not going to jump to negative conclusions. I would recommend to those not already involved with transactions to hold off until the dust settles. I have waited a long time and when the first news of Ben's health issues came out I knew I was in jeopardy. Actually there has been more communication on this site the last month than in the May through July time frame.

I have purchased the majority of my gear from this site and everything has gone flawlessly. Appreciate the concern expressed by others and hopefully my Denon 2900 is still sitting in Connecticut safe and sound where I sent it. At this point I would be happy to get it back even if some assembly is required.

With the flutter of activity in thread, the phone calls I have placed to both the number in this thread, and one other, I am well within my rights to jump to conclusions. No communication pretty much says it all. If I am wrong, I will gladly admit it and apologize!

    Who would steal sda crossovers?

There is alot of copper in them as well as some valuable capacitors. Whether parting out or selling for scrap, one can make a couple hundred bucks if they have a few sets sitting around.

The trash truck guys I used to work with would find old, junk electronics on the side of the road that the trash pickers would leave for the trash trucks. I told them to always grab that stuff and bring it back to the shop. I'd then spend a couple hours a week stripping out copper, useful electronic pieces and little processors from motherboards. Power supplies and transformers have piles of high quality copper in them. So do inductors. I could supplement my income by a couple hundred a week with just scrap copper, steel and aluminum from computer and electronics. TV's, especially with vacuum tubes, they can bring a pile of cash all by themselves.

I'm not helping any, am I?
