At 8 AM it was 84 degrees already.

You'd expect it to be hot in Texas. But over 90 in Maine! Yep and tomorrow, approaching mid 90s. The problem. We don't use AC much up here. And usually don't have temps much above 80 or mid-80s as highs in the summer!
So some near record temps, then I get to fly to Chicago and swelter there for a week! While temps back home return to, you guessed it, 'normal'!

I would guess that, even in Maine, it's rare for an entire summer to go by without hitting the 90's at least a couple times, right?
I went for my standard ~40 minute / 2.5 mile walk today at lunch. It was hot and I was alittle sweaty but... meh. Not impressed. If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
Might hit 70 here today in Porkland, OR.
Cloudy, cold and rainy.. No summer for us this year. We went 300+ days without having two days in a row where it reached 80 degrees. They say warmer weather for this weekend, then back to clouds, cold and rain next week. -
what is this 'cold and rain' you speak of pdxfj?

While normally I would be sweating it out in Texas and staying inside where it is cool. This week, however, is vacation and the high today is expected to be about. It's been beautiful here and expected to be the same all week. The coast of Northern CA and Southern OR is always nice in July.
Not looking forward to getting back to the heat next week, but only 8 more weeks and Texas will start cooling down.

You're right Bob,
But I do remember a few summers where it didn't get above 80 and was reasonably sunny. Those were the 'great' ones.
These days we usually get a mini-heat wave like this around now. And we can't take it. A far cry from a 1990s summer I spent in NYC where there were over 45 days of over 90 degree temps that year! And I was running daily in Riverside Park--which for those who do not know is next to one of the main arteries in and out of Manhattan (the Henry Hudson Parkway). Fumes and heat...fortunately I was about Bob's age so I could take it.

Yesterday on the golf course with temps at or above 96* with a heat index of 112-115* was the fist time I actually was diligent about fluid intake and making sure I had a hat on, etc. By the 16th hole (riding in a cart) I was pretty spent physically. Not completely drained but certainly weary. In about 4+ hours on the golf course I consumed (2) 20oz Powerade's (3) 20oz bottles of water + a large cup of ice water. I consumed about 20oz water in the A.M. before I hit the course. That was just enough to allow me to urinate once is a 6 hour period of time.
Normally I'm not too concerned about the heat as I'm pretty active and not more than 10lbs over what a weight chart says I should be for my height, but yesterday I'm glad I paid attention and hydrated properly and didn't overexert myself.

yeah, when outdoors, i consume copious amounts of water...i sweat like i'm getting paid to do so...when the sweating slows down, it's time for copious amounts of ac!

Wind chill is a big deal when it is -30 and add the wind chill making it feel like -45C
I usually just wear clothes when it's cold outside. How does the wind make it colder if it can't contact your skin? -

I feel for all of you having to sweat it out all over the U.S.
But...
Feel free to send some of that sun and warmth this way.
I remember reading an article last month about it being sunny and 85 in Fairbanks Alaska while it was 50 degrees and raining here. -

The wind chill temperature is how cold people and animals feel when outside. Wind chill is based on the rate of heat loss from exposed skin caused by wind and cold. As the wind increases, it draws heat from the body, driving down skin temperature and eventually the internal body temperature. Therefore, the wind makes it FEEL much colder. -

Hydration is key. When I'm doing track days on the motorcycle down here, for a Saturday / Sunday event, I'll start upping the water intake on the Monday before. By Thursday, I'm drinking about 2 gallons / day (and going to the rest room at least once an hour...haha). Last thing you want on a motorcycle coming off the front straight at 155 is to be tired, weak, and dehydrated. The wind chill temperature is how cold people and animals feel when outside. wind chill on the bike is a ****!

I know what it is, that's why I asked the question:I usually just wear clothes when it's cold outside. How does the wind make it colder if it can't contact your skin? -

With the flooding here we have been working 12-17 hours in this heat almost without breaks....quite a few of our guys had to go home because of heat exhaustion throughout the week. It's just almost impossible to stay hydrated working at the rate we are in this heat:frown:I love animals, they're delicious! -

My father in law works for Sun Oil here in the Philadelphia area. Working outside in a full Nomex suit in 100+ weather? No thanks!
32 years I wore Nomex. I'd like to kill the individual/s who developed it. -
Its a bit after 10pm here and we're holding a steady 96*. Not index.
I read a week or two ago we've already have almost 60 days of triple digits so far this summer. And its been triple digits since I read that article.
I thought Florida was hot. :frown:

Last week I was in Vancouver. Didn't even hit 70 once.

It was only 94 today. It's always hot here though. Louisiana is alot like Texas. Hot and humid all year long.
I work new construction painting and wearing a good ol spray suit. Great for keeping paint off but adds an easy 10 degrees or more to already warm attire lol. I normally consume at least 120oz of water everyday just while working. On really hot days i've hit 150 and wished i had more.Living Room Rig:D
