At 8 AM it was 84 degrees already.

Yeah, I'm not bitching. But when the A/C barely does anything because the compressor motor blew at 2AM, it's kind of a drag.

So here I sit, swamp **** and all, waiting for the A/C guy to get here. Thank God I have a service contract that covers this!

It's been over 100 for 13 days straight here and forcasted for another 10 days. 103 yesterday. Pour yourself a big cup of STFU.

Gah. The news (and most of the people on my Facebook feed) are treating a little heat wave like it's the end of the world. I love the hysterical anchors telling everyone to "not go outside unless absolutely necessary." Unless you're 100 years old or recovering from heart surgery, a little heat isn't going to kill you. People in the south or Texas deal with this crap all summer, why are we such delicate little flowers?

It is damn hot out there though

I'm not bitching about the weather, I'm bitching that the A/C broke. It's not my fault you live in Texas.

Oh, I'll be outside later today moving a lawn tractor. My BBQ grille is supposed to show up today too. But sitting here hovering over computers while laboriously trying to build a new Oracle database across the VPN is a drag. The conference call at 11 isn't going to be any fun either. The hear is just making for a bad day right now. Hopefully it's a simple fix.

NJ has been slowly climbing for the last few days. The humidity feels like Orlando in August. No complaints from me though. I'll take the heat over the cold anyday.

PS the AC in the VW no worky. Oh well I will just use the 4x65 method.

It's actually 19 consecutive 100+ days in Dallas (DFW airport). The news interviewed a jogger on one of those days and he said it's not so bad if you're acclimated to it. The jogger was Troy Aikman.

As for myself, I've been out there running slowly or just walking but I'm carrying 32oz (Amphipod hydration system) or 72oz (Camelbak) plus pistachios and a Clif Shot Blok.

But it does suck and most of us go running for the malls or movie theatre on the weekend.

Give him a break, he's from Canadia. They're still frozen this time of year and he just wants to feel like he belongs.

Actually, the A/C dude just told me that "the heat index is going to be 112 today!!!!?!?!!11"

    Whoop-tee-doo.

So I gave him a big glass of ice water.

The thing that sucks about humidity is that sweating doesn't work.

    Nope :

    http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weather/caon0512

with humidity it will feel like 117F hence 117 with humidity. Or 95 do all the scientific crap by adding in the humidity factor and you get 117.

And I'm damn happy that the ac in all vehicles is working but more impotantly the one at home.

Yeah, sorry, I forgot that people consider the "heat index" (or in Canada I think you guys use humidex).

Last night at 10:00PM in Illinois it was 92* w/90% humidity. Today we are looking at our 2nd day at 100* or more right now it's 89* w/75% humidity. Pretty dang hot for Illinois.

Well, wind chill doesn't matter a hill of beans but the heat index does matter. When it gets above a certain level, there are legitimate heat warnings about heat exhaustion and heat stroke. When it gets to those levels, sweating doesn't do anything but drain fluids from you body. That matters because you get dehydrated quickly so if you work outside for a living doing stuff like roofing or paving, you need to be careful.

But for the majority of people that work in offices, it doesn't matter. Just make sure your pets aren't dropping dead from the heat and everything will be A-OK.

Tell me about John. For a period of years,I used to work behind an asphalt machine in 95 degree heat. Breathing in those fumes didn't help much either and standing in asphalt hot enough to melt your boots. There were days bro....that I wouldn't wish on anyone.

Nothing wrong with sweating, it's actually good for you. You just have to keep up with the liquids is all. Days like these and I see dogs in a frickin' car in a parking lot, and rest assured a phone call is made.

When I was working for the diesel repair shop, one of our clients we were on-call for was a paving company. Heat kills the machines. Which is odd because they are hot to begin with. But high temps make it worse and they die more often in the middle of the summer. There were a couple of days on on-site repairs where I wished I was dead 'cause it had to be cooler under ground. The guys who stood behind the spreaders dumping the hot asphalt actually felt bad for us digging around inside the machine trying to fix hydraulics and such.

Those days, we charged a premium for service.

Yep. Been there, done that but not at an oil refinery. Sitting in full sun in the staging lanes in full nomex under a racing suit in 100* heat with a 1600 horsepower engine rumbling away, waiting for your turn to run...yeah, there would be puddles in the seat when I finally got out. I had two racing suits for a while because of stuff like that. That was one of the reasons, I started being a mechanic instead and let someone else do the driving!

BTW, the A/C is back on and kickin' away. It was a rectifier switch that overheated and blew the fuse. He replaced the switch and the fuse and checked the coolant. No charge, covered under the service agreement! YAY! Temps were at about 87* inside. Down to around 79* and dropping.

That's nuts that 2" of rain gets you out of a drought situation. They issue drought warnings here if we are down 2" on average for the season. A severe drought has us down 3 inches or more for 2-3 months. We need 10"+ to break a severe drought at that point. Then again, NJ averages 45" of rainfall a year.

We only get about 12" a year, we were down almost 3" with 80+days of no rain before the monsoon started, we are now above normal Y-t-d in some parts of Southern AZ. So yeah, it doesn't take much in the desert to be in and out of a drought situation.

Trust me, when you see prickly pear cactus pads wilting you know it's bad. I feel for ya'll in the rest of the south, especially my old home state of Texas. Short of a hurricane/tropical storm punching far inland it's not looking good. Ya'll don't need all 10"+ all at once

When we have issues with our AC's down here, it's usually a capacitor. I try to keep one on hand now. They tend to heat up and blow up.

It's not bad here today. Right now its 93*, feels like 99*.
